EELAM BULDOZED. EAST LIBERATION SOLIDIFIED. RACISTS, SEPARATISTS, AND TRAITORS KICKED OUT.

A.A.M.NIZAM MATARA.

Suicide attack in Trinco Harbour, Bombs in Ampara, threats in Panduwankerni, imported goons from Colombo and Kandy, Claymore mines in Valachchenai, Mortar attacks in Thamanagama, terrorist attacks in Kanchikudichchiaru (Ampara), brazen communal political intimidations in Muslim residential areas, terrorist coercion, threats and anti-Sinhala bullying in Tamil residential areas, and shameless flaming of area-wise racist antagonism totally failed to sway the strong will to embrace democracy and freedom by the Eastern Province masses who breathe the air of liberation and freedom after enduring vicious hardships, intimidations, extortions, abductions, murder, mayhem, abductions and a miserable nightmarish life under the jakcboots of the terrorist enemy for over two decades. These heroic and patriotic masses had given a thunderous and laudable defeat to the joint and reprehensible attempts made by the shameless, spineless UNP-SLMC-LTTE combine, the dollar hungry NGO vultures, and alienophile urbanite elitist traitors to defeat the government with the objective of remerging Northern and Eastern Provinces, to negate the immense sacrifices made by our gallant soldiers to liberate the Eastern Province, to halt the Northern War which they claim unwinnable and reintroduce terrorist authority in the Eastern Province by installing a racist puppet bigot awfully loyal to the terrorists as the Chief Minister of the Province.

At the last minute to the polls the unpatriotic and pro-terrorist opposition forces unleashed a surfeit of aggressive tactics to influence the voters not only to prevent them from voting for the government but even to prevent them from going to cast their vote, and exercise their new found voting rights. Terrorist proxy Tamil National Alliance, which intensely electioneered clandestinely came to the fore on the election eve and issued many handouts condemning the government and coercing the voters to defeat government candidates. In one such directive the General Secretary of the TNA, Mavail Senathirajah, MP, made an appeal saying that the merger of the northern and eastern provinces was the cornerstone of their election strategy and urged the votes to defeat the government rejecting the candidates put forward by the government, and pave the way for remerging the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

Thee most significant outcome of the election is the defeat of the UNP-SLMC-TNA alliance in all the electorates in the Batticaloa District. Although SLFP is a rural based party, it couldn't win even in the 1956 any of the Batticaloa District electorates and it always remained a bastion of the Federal Party and the UNP. While Kalkudah and Paddirippu always returned UNP MPs the twin electorates of Batticaloa shared it between UNP and the Federal Party. The last resolute attempt made by the SLFP to get one of its members elected for Batticaloa in 1970 ended in failure. Dr. Badi-ud-din Mahmoud who contested for the Batticaloa electorate failed to get elected and both seats were won by C.Rajadurai and Kasi Anandan of the TULF.

Even in the last Presidential election Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse was defeated in the Batticaloa District by 92,678 votes. Winning the District by getting twice the number of UNP votes (105,341 against UNP's 68,602) is indeed a remarkable turning point in the political history of Sri Lanka as regards the Batticaloa District. Also, it denotes the thirst of the Eastern Tamils to be freed from the grips of the Northern Tamils, and the burial of the Homeland concept, and their ardent and admirable desire to live as Sri Lankans in a democratic atmosphere.

The UNP-SLMC-TNA alliance knowing the difficulty of winning the election in an environment of people's desire for consolidation of East liberation, made all arrangements well ahead of the elections, to prepare the ground work to discredit the government and project the election as a sham, in collaboration with the NGO vultures whose lifeline of dollar remunerations could be curtailed in the event of a government victory in the election and the Tamil Homeland concept gets buried forever as a result. In a major move to scoff the elections, two mushroom organizations calling themselves as Election Monitoring Bodies, consisting notorious reactionary NGO vultures such as Pakyasothi Saravanamuttu and Nimalka Fernando together with well known UNPers as members were formed. Also other notorious characters who have earned the brand name "dollar crows" such as Jehan Perera and Kumar Rupasinghe too took all efforts to discredit the election.

The treacherous UNP unable to stomach the mammoth defeat and mainly to divert the imminent call from the party membership for the master looser leader to resign and pay way for new leadership has announced that it rejects the election results claiming that it was not a free and fair election. Sri Lankans familiar with the hideous election culture introduced by the J.R.Jayawardene government in the post 1977 period will vouch that the Eastern Province election was commendable since it failed to:

  • Impersonate prominent personalities as it was done in the 1982 presidential election;
  • To cease polling booths and stuff ballot boxes at gun point by goondas as it happened in the same election;
  • To experience a power cut while counting was on as it happened in the Mahara by election;
    To torch public properties and stuff ballot boxes by imported goondas from Colombo overseen by Ministers as it happened in the Jaffna DDC elections;
  • To stuff ballot boxes by the armed forces as it was done by the IPKF in the 1988 North-East Provincial Council Election;
  • Armed candidates, Ministers and Parliamentarians entering polling booths and getting ballot boxes stuffed by their goondas as it happened in the PC Elections in the South in 1988, and Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 1989
  • Unleash thuggery and other malpractices as it is alleged to have happened in the Wayamba provincial council election since leading perpetrators of these alleged crimes, S.B.Dissanayake, Mangala Samaraweera, Lakshman Kiriella are now in the UNP fold.

The pro-:LTTE Jaffna Daily "Uthayan" reported on the day before the election 09.05.2008 that clandestine arrangements have been made to form a new opposition alliance UNP Coalition wins the Eastern Provincial Council and force the government to hold a general election. It failed give details of this Alliance and the groups involved in this Alliance. This shows that there was a hidden conspiracy to topple the government after the PC Elections. Lakshman Kiriella's threat to the security forces on their responsibility to safeguard the voting rights could also be part of this conspiracy. Government should take appropriate action to investigate about this conspiracy and the objectives behind this purported Alliance.

The peace loving masses of the Eastern Province have firmly and decisively rejected separatism, racism, parochialism and expressed their enthusiasm for democracy and embrace the Sri Lankan identity. The government while proceeding with its Eastern Resurgence Programme should make all efforts to forge unity among the racially divided Eastern Province masses and inculcate amity and brotherhood among them as Sri Lankans and sons of a single glorious nation. Let this province once again be the food basket of the nation as it used to be under the Sinhala Kings.
