PRESIDENT PAYS LAST RESPECTS TO CIVILIAN
MASSACRE VICTIMS BY THE TAMIL TIGERS
By Walter Jayawardhana

President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid his last respects, to two brothers
who fell victims in the latest civilian massacre by the terrorists of
the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) who are also known as Tamil
Tigers.
The President flew to the deep South of the country to pay his last
respects and console the victims family who lost two young members
of their family.
Sri Lankan armed forces said the Tamil Tigers killed ten innocent unarmed
civilians by shooting at Thanamalvila, as a tactic to draw the attention
of the army away from the military onslaught of the army but their attempt
would be futile.
In these pictures by Sudath Silva the President is seen paying his
last respects to the two brothers, Ruwan Kumara (18) and Priyantha Kelum
(24) at their residence at kudalagara, at Middeniya, January 20, two
of the ten Thanamalvila victims, who were shot dead by the Tamil Tigers.
Before the Presidents arrival, Sri Lankan government agencies
also paid compensation to the victims families.

The massacre of ten took place two days after the terrorists ambushed
a civilian bus and killed 27 people at Buttala. Thanamalvila and Buttala
are two close by towns.
The Tamil Tigers openly practiced massacring of unarmed civilians after
entering into a Norway brokered ceasefire agreement that was hailed
as the only path to peace in Western countries. Sixty five civilian
bus passengers were killed in another ambush two years ago at Kebithigollewa
in the countrys North Central Province. The Western brokers of
the ceasefire who were supposed to provide a security net
against these civilian massacres were helpless and virtually did nothing
to prevent them.
Meanwhile, Western news agencies try to depict misleadingly that the
escalation of violence is due to the abrogation of the Norwegian brokered
peace accord that had been violated by the Tamil Tigers more than five
thousand times.
