LTTE DEFEAT AND A RAY OF HOPE FOR LANKANS AT LAST

ASOKA S.

In addition to the valuable lives of fallen brave Soldiers, over 5 billion dollars spent, over 60000 lives lost, the next biggest casualty of maniac Prabhakaran's war is the Lankan economy and with it, the Lankan people both Tamil and Sinhalese. We still ail as a poor third world country while our big neighbor the once poor socialist India is making giant economic strides. Our youth are struggling to find a decent job that they can make a living with, our parents are struggling to find the money for surviving themselves and their extended families, our elderly are suffering unable to buy the expensive medicines and our country as a whole is suffering due to crumbling infrastructure together with all of the above. This is indeed a very sad state of affairs.

Ask anybody in Sri Lanka and the first thing you hear is how tuff life is and how expensive everything is. A barrel of oil is hitting $100 and even the rich west is feeling the pinch so it comes as no surprise that Lanka is bleeding bad.

Rajapaksha was elected democratically and as in any other country in the world his no. 1 responsibility is the security of his people. He also has the benefit of knowing how Prabhakaran conned all his predecessors into peace talks in order to facilitate his war machine. Ranil fell for it big time and the country witnessed LTTE assembled aircraft, missiles, high tech armaments and Radio Towers. Rajapaksha and his team had it that much more difficult as a result and our brave soldiers paid with their dear lives to gain the advantage again.

Now that SL forces have penetrated into the LTTE heartland the one and only choice the Rajapaksha administration has is to push on to a finish without slowing down one inch. Military force is the only language Prabhakaran understands. Moreover he has no other choice but to fight on as a civil life again for Prabhakaran will never be as he has committed so much crimes against humanity. His only chance is to escape to India or some crazy terrorist country in the middle east who shares his daemon dreams.

So whatever party affiliations Lankan people have, now is the time for all people to rally behind Pres. Rajapaksha. This goes to Ranil and his team too as enough is enough with the LTTE. This is no time for Politics as the stakes are too high. It is a now or never situation as the advantage is with the GOSL. Let the high paid armchair UN clerks come and go and make their reports. They get paid to write something from their five star hotel rooms so that they look like they have earned the big fat pay check, but the President and the Lankan People will be facing the daily dose of misery delivered by the LTTE.

Sri Lanka can never tap the richness of its ambitious, educated and enterprising people and move into the 21st century without wiping out the LTTE cancer.
The business community and the people are ready for it. And Rajapaksha is poised to deliver it. Only Ranil is looking for an opportunity to prevent any progress. He is still dreaming of the crown that keeps eluding him.

Let us pray that 2008 will be the year of victory for all Lankan people, Tamil and Sinhalese alike to toast victory against the barbaric LTTE. The universal truth is that evil cannot last forever and justice and sanity always prevail.
