Five years of Death and Mutilation in Iraq in a vain attempt to eliminate terrorists.

By Charles .S.Perera

Living for the last five years in the hell created by Bush's American war in Iraq, there may now be Iraqians who are nostalgic for the tyranny of Sadam Hussain. What has Iraq gained after five years of American occupation, and what has America gained from the war in Iraq ? Both sides have accumulated large numbers of deaths, and an equal number of mutilated human beings. Neither the Iraqians nor the ordinary Americans have benefited from the five years of war. But yesterday George Bush said "………the surge has done more than turn the situation in Iraq around -- it has opened the door to a major strategic victory in the broader war on terror."

Yes the broader war on terror, but what does this roaring America tells Sri Lanka fighting a terrorist war on its own soil, against its own misguided youth turned terrorists , who are constantly being given a life line to survive, to continue its campaign of terror by this very Same Bush's America and its partners the International Community and the E.U ? It tells us to negotiate for peacewith the terrorists, who do not want peace !!!

The Bush's war in Iraq has cost the United States $500 billion. Tens of thousands of Iraqis have been killed and millions displaced. Nearly 4,000 U.S. soldiers have been killed, as well as 175 British troops and 134 from other countries.

George Bush caring little for the American public opinion ranted, "No one would argue that this war has not come at a high cost in lives and treasure, but those costs are necessary," What have the Amnesty International, the Human Rights Watch,UN, and the EU got to say about this wanton killings by foreign forces, in some one else's country, which promotes only suffering and death to Iraqians and the American youth.

The Asian Human Rights Commission, Human Rights Watch , and the Washington Post, all of them who seem so worried about the violation of human rights in Sri Lanka say nothing of the military machine of gory unleashed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why ? Is it because they think that the American Army fighting in a foreign country many miles away from their motherland, are not violating the human rights of Americans, and that the Iraqians and Afghanistanies could afford the suffering, and they have no human rights to be violated?

In such conditions it is best that the International Community, the EU and their champions the UN, the Human Rights Watch etc., should leave Sri Lanka alone to settle its problems in its own way. Without their interference Sri Lanka may have finished with the terrorist war and perhaps got the LTTE terrorists to see reason, and lay down their arms and come for peace negotiations.

The LTTE terrorists, use their infants and women brigades as cannon fodder, awaiting the International Community to come forward for their help. If the International Community the US States Department, EU and the their gangs of human right activists tell the LTTE terrorists, that they cannot stand by them, and that they should surrender to the Government forces and stop using their infants and women brigades in a losing war against the Sri Lanka Security Forces. The terrorists may perhaps understand, and will decide to surrender.

That should have been the way to fight terrorism without letting loose the American military machine, on a people who did not want terror either from Sadam Hussain or from Uncle Sam.
