VAIKO THREATENS HE AND HIS PARTY CADRES WOULD CARRY ARMS FOR PRABHAKARAN AND PROTECTING INTEGRITY OF SRILANKA WOULD JEOPARDISE INTEGRITY OF INDIA

By Walter Jayawardhana

The rabble rouser of South Indian politics Gopalaswamy Vaiko, at a meeting in Chennai openly defied Indian law and said he and his party cadres would not hesitate to carry arms to Sri Lanka in support of the beleaguered , cornered and trapped Velupillai Prabhakaran and his Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Though it had been long suspected that Vaiko was smuggling arms to the Tamil Tigers this was the first time his intentions , at least about the future , has been stated in an open rally.

He said he and his party would not only hesitate to carry arms but he would mobilize people from all over the country for the illegal purpose.

Though breaking of civil laws came in the Ghandian tradition this was the first time an elected representative and a recognized political party leader has ever declared that his party would break criminal laws of the country. Vaiko is a non-Tamil migrant from another state who thrives on Tamil racism in the state of Tamil Nadu. He heads a breakaway group of the DMK, Marumalarchi Thiravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK).

In his speech in Chennai, Vaiko told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that if he continued to protect the integrity of Sri Lanka , it would badly affect and jeopardize the integrity of India.

Analysts say, it's a veiled threat to start a separatist movement in India.

Speaking at the same rally Chairman of the MDMK M.Kannappan said anybody speaking against the LTTE could be termed a traitor. He also threatened the New Delhi government not to force Tamils in the state to launch a separatist movement.
