DEFEAT TERRORISM AND LIBERATE THE NATION IS THE SOLE ASPIRATION OF THE MASSES
A massive setback for Plaincloth Eelamists
JVP enters the march to regression

A.A.M.NIZAM MATARA.

The toiling masses of the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces who cherish the motherland than their own self have clearly rejected the Kurunduwatte Chintanaya of genuflecting in front of the terrorists and the Rowdy Sankalpaya of the JVP and endorsed the contemporary need to liberate the North from the clutches of the terrorist outfit and emancipate the masses holed up in the two remaining districts under the jackboots of the terrorist megalomaniac. The champions of the Kurunduwatte Chintanaya enslaved to concepts of all forms of betrayal sans patriotism together with Plaincloth Eelamists camouflaged under foreign funded outfits made a concerted effort pumping millions of dollars to sway the masses. These treacherous elements were vociferously assisted by the dejected clan professing a rowdy sankalpaya in politics by mobilizing their islandwide strength to storm the four districts. In the face of the aforementioned allurements and threats the prudent verdict given by the toiling masses in Saturday’s election is a great victory and a massive moral boost to our gallant security forces.

Although the election turned out to be a referendum on the policies of the government, the government was forced to hold the elections due to the high handedness of the new found UNP-JVP nexus with the strength of their combined seat positions. With their boisterous pronouncements and anti-social manouvers the unholy alliance made both the Councils ungovernable. The JVP forgot the fact that they were able to muster that number of seats only because the SLFPers gave preference votes for them as it was what happened in the 2004 General Election as well.

The Plaincloth Eelamists who were starved of opportunities to throw their weight against the operation to annihilate the terrorists, to defame the government, and provide oxygen to vanishing terrorists the election gave a mammoth opportunity to consolidate their efforts and resources to bolster the anti-government elements and attempt to force a revision to the Northern Operation.

The bootlickers of these Plaincloth Eelamists in the media mafia and other nefarious outfits camped in the two provinces and worked overtime to mislead the general public, threaten and misguide the voters and build up a massive campaign against the government candidates.

The Lap Dogs of the UNP writing in the notorious rag sheets famed for misleading the puboic claimed that as per a “ surveys commissioned by the President, the candidates Berty Premalal Dissanayake and Mahipala Herath were unpopular due to several allegations of large scale corruption and a long history of violence and thuggery, and the election would enable the UNP to close its margins in the districts of Anuradhapura and Ratnapura while winning the districts of Polonnaruwa and Kegalle.”? They also showered much praise on JVP and claimed that the JVP will hold the balance of power in the two provinces, but will not align with the government.

The amount of money thrown in by the UNP and its candidates were colossal. The English Weekly “Nation”? in its last edition had to say the following on this aspect. “The sheer amount of money being expended on the elections is staggering. Luxury vehicles, mostly gas guzzling SUVs whizzing around bedecked with stickers are a common sight in Sabaragamuwa, while UNP candidates Nihal Jayawardene and Sandith Samarasinghe told the Nation that they were spending around Rs.10 million each on the campaign.Other candidates reportedly made payments topping Rs.20 million to purchase buildings as election offices. Given the high number of candidates it is obvious that the money being poured into this election will amount to several hundred million rupees.” ? It was also reported in the media that the UNP candidate Rt. General Janaka Perera was spending more than Rs. 300,000 per day for his personal expenses alone.

The UNP as a responsible political party has a duty and responsibility to the people to disclose the source of this massive funding and what each of these candidates spending to the tune 10 to 20 million expected to get in return, or provide in return to their funding sources. If the UNP fails to disclose this vital information a mass agitation should be launched on this matter as there is all possibility of subversion against the sovereignty of this nation, through such funds.

Attempts made by the UNP and the Plaincloth Eelamists to project the election as an undemocratic operation with allegation of violence, intimidation etc, with the hidden motive of defaming the government in the international arena presenting artificial allegations invented by their own outfits such as CAFFE playing clandestine roles did not bear fruit. The American Ambassadors unethical move of meeting the Election Commissioner was also a part of these internationaisation designs. The incident free violence free atmosphere on the election day dispelled all these sinister moves.

On the other hand the JVP afflicted with a terminal disease of belligerency placed over confidence on their strength and made boisterous claims on their illusory prospects. Unlike the shameless deceptive move made by SLMC in the Eastern Province, it was this over confidence that led Wasantha Samarasinghe to resign from his Parliamentary seat and enter the fray from the North Central Province. They mistakenly believed that they could muster voters confidence and the whole party apparatus from the Central Committee members down to grassroot party cadres stormed the four districts under party dictates and worked hard throughout the election period involving themselves in canvassing, intimidating or even threatening the voters wherever necessary, similar to Lalkantha’s threats that a handful of their members could completely wreck Berty Premalal Dissanayake’s propaganda machinery.

The results clearly indicate that the JVP is facing an irreversible decline in its popularity. The 10 – 12% of votes it managed to get in the last local government election has dwindled pathetically, despite some of their strongmen hailing from the areas which faced the election. Districtwise they could get only 5.31% of votes polled in the Anuradhapura (Lalkantha’s stronghold) with one PC member, 4.09% in Polonnaruwa without a single PC member, 2.06% in Ratnapura with one PC member, and 2.44% in Kegalla with one PC member.

This election has completely shattered a long held myth that the SLFP can never win an election without entering into a coalition partnership with leftist parties. The election clearly indicated people’s mistrust in the JVP and the President is capable of veering majority of the voters other than the die hard orthordox and rich urbanites to support him. The electon is also a prediction on the fate of JVP in a future General Election.

It was the enormous confidence reposed on the President by the masses and the acumen of the President that helped the UPFA candidates to win this election, overcoming the massive anti-government campaign launched by the Plaincloth Eelamists and the JVP, and win all the 27 electorates in the four districts. It is the duty and responsibility of the newly elected members and the Chief Ministers to safeguard the people’s confidence in the President and solve the dire needs of the poor masses which are reported to be rampant in the Sabaragamuwa Province.
