PRABHAKARAN ADMITS SRILANKAN FORCES HAVE ENTERED HIS AREA AND ARE AT THE DOORSTEP OF KILINOCHCHI

By Walter Jayawardhana

In an email interview with the Tamil magazine “Nakkeeran” Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam supremo Prabhakaran admitted that the Sri Lankan forces have entered the Tamil Tiger earlier controlled and held areas of Nothern Sri Lanka and are in close proximity to their administrative key town of Kilinochchi.

The 53 year old ailing leader with chronic diabetes and reportedly suffering from “anxiety” exactly did not indicate where he is living in this interview with the Chennai based magazine but said “living among our people".

While admitting that the Sri Lankan forces are at his door step he boasted “Capturing Kilinochchi remains a day dream for (Mahinda) Rajapaksa.”

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the Commander in Chief of all armed forces of Sri Lanka.

Prabhakaran is quoted having said, "The Sri Lankan forces have entered parts of our homeland and are stationed in close proximity to Kilinochchi town. But, capturing Kilinochchi is just a day dream of (Sri Lankan President Mahinda) Rajapaksa,"

Due to the strict imposition by the Tamil Nadu police Prabhakaran is severely restricted of getting his arms and explosives from Tamil Nadu and a prominent Tamil Nadu polician is in remand jail for proposing they should carry weapons to Prabhakaran. “To fulfill the aspirations of the Tamil people” the Indian government should lift its ban on the LTTE, Prabhakar insisted.

"We expect that it (India) would lift the ban on our organisation and support us to fulfill the long awaited aspirations of the Tamil people," Prabhakaran has repeatedly claimed a separate state for the Tamils encompassing the Nothern and Eastern Provinces of the country, covering one third of the land mass of the country and two thirds of coast of the island nation.

In his interview the Tamil Tiger leader praised Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu whom he called Kalaignar Muthuvel Karunanidhi and dejected Opposition leader Jeyalalitha Jeyaram for what he said distancing herself from the Tamil cause.

An English translation in an agency report said , “"Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Kalaignar is a Tamil nationalist. He has not only voiced his concern against the Sinhala state terrorism in Tamil Eelam, but has also showed it in action.

"Today, it makes us happy to see him taking a stance in support of the Tamils when they face untold sufferings. We expect such support in the future as well," Prabhakaran said.

"Jayalalitha had also voiced her support. But, if she has changed her stand now, what could we say about it,"

Prabhakaran admitted that the Sri Lankan forces have attacked the headquarters of the LTTE and there was nobody at the time there and there were no casualties.

Although the present phase of the war started with attacks beginning from killing of 65 civilian bus passengers at Kebethigollewa in remote Anuradhapura district to the present ones in a series by the LTTE Prabhakaran denied civilian attacks in his interview.

"We do not carry out attacks on innocent Sinhala civilians. Ours is a liberation organisation fighting for the liberation of the Tamil people. We have continuously called upon the Indian political analysts and policy makers to clearly understand this," the LTTE leader said in the Nakkeeran interview.

He said the statement that he would be handed over to India for the trial of Rajiv Gandhi could be considered another pipe dream of Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He said creating a separate state for the Tamils in Sri Lanka still remained the permanent solution for the problem of Sri Lanka
