Re: Maj.Gen (retd) Janaka Perera (PereRaala?), One shot KuruwitaRaala and UNP

SIRI KARUNA

The short answer is that he knows that he is not the the pinup boy of the Army that the propaganda papers make him out to be.

Janaka is a rat who got fattened with ego by the sweat and blood of the common soldier. Those who served under him knew how he introduced politics to our once noble profession. No soldier worth his salt would ever pardon him for that. If not for the current leaderships intervention our profession would never have the dignity or the self belief to take on the LTTE by the scuff.

Janaka illudes himself to be the next broker of the Vatican and it's funds after Ranil. Thus his entrance in to politics and become a chief minister where as if he really wanted to serve his nation, he would have volunteered him self to become a military adviser in the present government. Where as Gotabhaya Rajapakshe writes to assimilate professional help from all expatriates to serve the nation, would he have disregarded an offer from Janaka to help in the military at some capacity? Is there a single plaque for the common soldier who served under him?

Janaka has already bought off many promising English journalists to filip his political campaign because he has assurance that the Vatican monitors the Sri Lankan papers. What Janaka has not done is to bother about the Sinhala Newspaper writers because is assured that Sinhala writing does not get monitored directly by the Vatican. This will his Waterloo since the average NCP voter does not read the English papers. Come see the bearded lady at the circus attraction that Janaka performed, has worn off and hardly raises any novelty interest at his meetings. People just don't turn up. Now he throws the victim card by stating that everybody is ought to kill him and that it's the governments duty to protect him. These are the exact ploys and instructions he issued to his subordinate soldiers, that it was their duty to protect him whether by carrying him on their shoulder over land mines or encircle him to enjoy his chosen pleasurable lifestyle though in the middle of the jungle. In contrast todays soldier feel that they serve their motherland than a egoistic self serving hypocrite. Todays soldier would will to lay down their life for their commanding officer because of the sheer love for the service they perform and not because such was demanded or robbed of that unique dignity.

Please don't take his self promoting and egoistic tendencies to be that of a selfless patriot. We have known many unsung heroes in the battlefield who deserve to be called patriots. But this audacity of this man is such that he named three villages after his own family. Janakapura, the new town built in Weli Oya, was named after him. Kent Farm was renamed Kalyanipura after his former wife ( who then left him for a much saner junior officer) and Sampathpura was built and named after his son. Are these the signs of a selfless patriot or a self serving bigot at the expense of the innocence in the East? Never in the history of the military world over has a mere officer taken such ego trips of self promotion. What of the other Generals of our beloved tri-forces? Do they ask for anything in return from the battlefields they fought on, but an opportunity to serve the families of those who served and fell. That is why we chose to call him a RAT.

A resounding rejection by the voters of the NCP to the UNP Janaka would be the hope of every soldier past and present and the only tribute that could be granted to the common soldier who had the misfortune of serving under such callous greedy military officer.
