call brings back hundreds of deserters
The total number of deserters who have surrendered during the past few
weeks is around 2000, the Special Media Information said in a statement.
About 200 deserters on Tuesday surrendered to army authorities through
Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera of the Dharmayathanaya at Bauddhaloka Mawatha.
The Army Headquarters has agreed to accept these men without subjecting

Sirilal Weerasooriya was visiting Pakistan and said there was no immediate

LTTE may buy Chandrika's 'unconditional'
offer for dialogue
The Sri Lankan government and the LTTE are now looking at talks, rather
than continued military action, as a possible solution to the conflict.
The Sri Lankan President has clearly stated that she is willing to have
a dialogue with the LTTE representatives without any conditions. In
a recent interview with an Indian television network, Kumaratunga again
said that a peaceful settlement was the only way out of the crisis and
that the LTTE could hold on to the territory they had acquired and talk
from that point onwards.(The

New Delhi and Colombo are closely
working on a revised devolution package for the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

devolution package for the Tamil population in the Island nation keeping

Delhi is in constant touch with Colombo on the issue. A PTI report said,

India urges Lanka to devolve power India has decided not to broker a ceasefire in Sri Lanka,
