The Determination Of Sri Lanka's Military Leaders Must Prevail To Overrun The LTTE !

© LankaWeb Editorial January 5th 2007

As pledged to the High Buddhist Clergy as well as the people of Sri Lanka, the Commander of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka surely means business each time he he reiterates what he said to the media in the past that Sri Lankan Armed Forces under his command and perhaps with the able support of Maj. Gen Janaka Perera who has also been invited back to Sri Lanka according to the latest reports will flush out and completely annihilate the LTTE and their worthless terrorist outfit from wherever they are carrying out their illegal attrocities against Sovereign Sri Lanka.

It now seems only a matter of time and a foregone conclusion given the present military might of the SL Armed Forces who have also been assured by Pakistan of a large supply of arms and hopefully also the logistical support to go with it, a nod from the Chinese in this direction said to be pending while also taking into consideration the Indian Government's willingness to train Sri Lankan Army personnel and the still simmering issue of a regional defence pact which has not been dispelled completely that the LTTE are literally staring down the barrel of the gun which will wipe them out or at least disperse them to the point of ineffectivity or see them on bended knees with arms in supplication crying for mercy.

It is however to be expected that the complete cleaning up of every semblance of LTTE terrorism is going to take some doing over a period of time which does not discount the reality of its inevitability as the Sri Lankan Armed Forces are presently in top gear in every aspect of their operational capabilities whether it be by land, sea or air!
It is indeed encouraging from a military standpoint that the confidence expressed by the Army Commander to the media augurs well for the nation where being rid of the scourge of the LTTE has been long awaited beyond any rhetoric to the contrary.

The Army Chief Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka has been quoted as stating to the media recently in Kandy that "the East would be totally rid of the LTTE in two or three months and the the Armed Forces plan to drive the LTTE out of the Eastern districts by February or March, and thereafter make a bid to chase the rebels away from the Northern districts also."

In doing so it is also aspired by all who perceive the General's intentions as benevolent to Sri Lanka, which it truly is beyond a doubt that it would not be a mere matter of ridding the LTTE from the North and East only but driving them out of the Nation completely never to re-surface or re-group considering the damage, anguish and destruction they have caused the people of Sri Lanka to endure where the terrorist leaders need to be apprehended and tried for crimes against humanity and the most appropriate punishment meted out to them which logically would mean that of a capital nature.

The statement which is a forebearer of impending doom for the terrorist outfit was based on a few concrete facts and the rationale that the LTTE were greatly outnumbered by the Security Forces from a head count and manpower perspective where their only resources towards regrouping was the recruitment of children and clandestinely smuggled gleanings of aramamant from flybynight suppliers either stolen or misappropriated attesting to the reality that they cannot be vast in content where most of their regular supplies have been cut off including diaspora financing which thrived before many leading nations chose to ban them outright. It seems safe to conclude that the LTTE have been consequently debilitated in all the areas which would otherwise make them a contending force where to the contrary they appear to be a spent forces awaitinfg their nemesis and the replenishing of their resources wishful thinking.

While the forceful intentions of the leader of the Armed Forces appear to be more plausible than those of the LTTE towards anything beneficial to Sri Lanka, the terrorists continue their lies and innuendo with every possible sttempt to discredit the Armed Forces and draw international attention towards their cause with very little success as their transparencies have now been exposed and credibilities lost.

Somewhat unfortunately every attack on terrorist locations by the Army are calculated, deadly accurate and as expected with civilian casualties as the LTTE in many instances use them as human shields and in turn orchestrate the circumstances to appear as deliberate attacks on civilians which by now the more discerning anywhere as well as the international community must interpret as false and fabricated. The Armed Forces under LG Sarath Fonseka are doing their utmost and very commendably to minimise civilian casualties which the LTTE with their usual cruelty and mendacity attempt at every instance to prevent and augment!

Howeve, it is fervently hoped that the cause of the civilians caught in the crossfire is a foremost priority for the Forces to observe albeit a difficult one where the LTTE forcibly prevent them from seeking a safe haven and escaping the conflict which is why it becomes something of primary importance that the LTTE are vanquished completely and very swiftly while the civilian casualty issue needs to be prioritised with great attention to its avoidance wherever possible.

Hence it would be an understatement to say that all is not going smoothly for the terrorists and that their days may be numbered despite all their attempts to regroup which must never be permitted where the determination of Sri Lanka's Military Leaders must prevail to overrun the LTTE in the best interests of Sri Lanka !
