The SAARC Summit seems to have elicited many intellectual opinions in the best interests of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka but in doing so has also prompted a few misguided pro LTTE factions who need to be disillussioned that the LTTE have no role to play in SAARC regardless of their garbled rhetoric and a false belief that it would be given a hearing as the SAARC Summit is not about the voice or voice engines of the LTTE or their need to survive!

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was indeed established when its Charter was formally adopted on December 8, 1985, by the heads of state or governments of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Since its inception the SAARC has provided a platform for the people of South Asia to work together in a spirit of friendship, trust and understanding.This however does not extend to nation destructive globally proscribed terrorists who are practically finished as a terrorist entity and on their way out so it seems amusing that anyone in his right mind attempts to promote Pro LTTE rhetoric as it is a simple waste of time and no platform towards their survival can realistically be created as it would be one of a pro terrorist nature and hence totally unacceptable by any norms of the free and democratic world.

While SAARC definitely aims to accelerate the process of economic and social development in member states. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) which is pretentiously fighting to carve out an independent state of 'Tamil Eelam' from Sri Lanka where the truth of the matter is they are fighting for the survival of their meagre and depleted band of proscribed unrelenting terrorists who at the present are on the run towards complete elimination at the hands of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces with nowhere to turn to perhaps with the exception of Tamil Nadu who need to be wary of their support for the LTTE terrorists in any measure as they would be compromising India.s responsibilities in the fight against Global terrorism!

It need to be put into perspective both conceptually and realistically that beyond being ludicrous and fantasy on the part of anyone who broadcasts such statements to the public that the LTTE have made a political and diplomatic move by declaring a unilateral truce from July 26 to August 4 in order to help provide for the success of the conference to be held in Colombo during that time there is absolutely no credibility in such rhetoric and the Government of Sri Lanka has geared the Security Forces of the Nation into high alert as the only plausible outcome of such statements could be a ploy to catch the Nation and its security unawares as in the past but not this time around!

While there have been great anxieties about the venue of this summit being located in Colombo, the trepidations about risk of attack have been successfuly dispelled by the Government of Sri Lanka perhaps in collaboration with super power India and other collaboratives who have pledged their fullest support towards National Securit. The LTTE as well as their supportives should tone down their rhetoric about any input into an event which in any capacity whether of a belligerent or peaceful nature has neither their own interests( of a terrorist nature) at heart nor is there any rational reason to believe their assurances which are of no net worth towards the well being of Sri Lanka and they will not be given any prominence sought towards recognition for the simple reason that they are a non entity as far as the Government of Sri Lanka is concerned in any administrative sense.

Furthermore, the Tamil Community is now being represented by a very credible Nation friendly Tamil leadership well aware of the role it needs to play towards their future as part of the Sri Lankan multi ethnic mosaic which has no accommodation for terrorists, least of all Sri Lanka's Public Enemy Number One and his band of insurgents whose shallow rhetoric is beginning to fade in their own insecurities towards elimination!

When all SAARC member countries have pledged support to the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) it must be emphasized beyond the metaphor that this support does not entail false representation of the Tamil Community which the LTTE truly are and have proven themselves to be over the years where even the Tamil Community itself prefers to distance themselves from, a salient threat towards their existences as freedom loving persons. They are intelligent and rationally thinking persons well aware that to be dictated to by a conscienceless, megalomaniacal individual such as Velupillai Prabhakaran is tantamount to being ruled by the devil himself to use the analogy and apart from a meagre representation of misguided, frustrated, unrelenting diaspora scattered around the globe whose intentions are far from meritworthy towards a pluralistic existence for both Sinhalese and Tamils within Sri Lanka the LTTE have no credible support worth mentioning towards the attention of all concerened including the International Community which needs to be made aware that the LTTE are terrorists and not part of Sri Lankan free society.

While a response is needed to quash the fallacy that Sri Lanka needs the help of neighbouring countries as desperately as portrayed by certain pro LTTE news engines which exaggerate the issue with particular reference to the speculation that certain immediate neighbours such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have been recently approached to assist the Sri Lankan armed forces by supplying military hardware and /or military training as imperatively as depicted in some dispatches it also needs emphasis that it has been done deliberately as a means to exaggerate non existent LTTE strength in deference to the real situation where the real strenght of late has probably been their capacity to show a clean pair of heels in running for their lives!!

It needs to be emphasized that all portrayed documentation by the LTTE and their proactive news sources, of the military situation within Sri Lanka relative to the dependancy on the aforementioned Nations in particular and the solicitation of desperate help from them has been blown out of proportion although there are other Allies of substantial power and status who continue to provide their fullest co-operation towards Sri Lanka's anti terrorist effort with no pre-conditions and is common knowledge to those who matter and towards diluting the definition of the term desperation on the part of the GOSL. That trait at the present is realistically applicable to the LTTE with hardly a need towards speculation!

It is no exaggeration that the LTTE are being overrun and the SLAF are forcefully advancing towards their eventual annihilation. There was a time when Indian support towards the cause was solicited but due to a small glitch in the Indian conscience with respect to a place called Tamil Nadu as well as related historical facts towards their detriment relative to previously applied Indian tactics the request was categorically and perhaps sensibly denied albeit based on the collective gobal response to terrorism where India has always been aware of the preparedness of friendly countries such as Pakistan, China and lately the USA to respond to Sri Lanka's needs relative to National Security.

This has in all probabilities softened India's stance on the issue lately and with some apparent reluctance Indian too now upholds Sri Lanka's push towards ridding the Nation from LTTE terrorism where they have no choice and Tamil Nadu probably needs to tone down its rhetoric or invite the Prabhakaran bandwagon to settle in India which might not be the best option and certainly one which will not have the sanction of the Central Government in New Delhi already overburdened with the management of the highest populace in the world!!!

It would however be no speculation to surmise that the LTTE have a degree of expectation about India as their dying glimmer of hope perhaps because of Tamil Nadu's incessant call to their Federal Government to get involved on behalf of their Tamil bretheren across the Palk Strait towards LTTE's cause, that India might respond but it can be safely said that India has chosen wisely to support Sri Lanka's war against terrorism rather than attach much importance to Tamil Nadu's bickerings over the issue as India probably has her own anxieties of a worst case scenario of LTTE terrorism eventually plaguing all of South Asia and something which needs to be addressed before it propagates to a dangerous level and hence India's response cannot accommodate both the terrorists and Sovereign Sri Lanka much akin to Hobson's Choice for the correct response!

It may be releiving to end on the favourable note thet the SAARC Summit has been succesfully completed without much incident which would otherwise have tarnished its importance with particular reference to its host Nation and speaks much for the credibilities of Sri Lanka and the pledges towards a safe summit which is now a Fait Accompli.

This also attests in all probabilities to the growing incapacity of the LTTE to perpetrate attrocities during such an important event hosted by Sri Lanka although nothing can be taken for granted until the last of the terrorists have been vanquished and the drive to eliminate them needs to be a continuing priority.
