A Great Start Towards Ridding The Nation Of The Tigers' Unwelcome PresenceSampoor one the former illegal enclaves of the LTTE has finally been
overrun by the magnificient Sri Lankan Armed Forces under the astute
leadership of Major General Sarath Fonseka and perhaps the shape of
greater disasters the LTTE will have to face as they are bound to be
wiped off the map where terrorism will have no place to rest its miserable
head in Sri Lanka as coined with the noble words of the Brave military
leadership of the Sri Lankan Army to whom all glory and honour belongs
over this wonderful victory. President Rajapakse in resisting the pressures of the international community and the Aid Donors including the United Nations to halt the advance of his forces into Sampoor while refusing to give in has shown fine fettle by his unflappable determination where he is purported to have asked the Norwegian Ambassador, Hans Brattskar who was the main source of pressure on his policies regarding the advances of the Army into Sampoor at a meeting, if he was being asked to hand over Sampoor to the enemy? which just about sums up his stoic stance over the issue and perhaps an indication of greater things to come in the best interests of the Nation! With the fall of Sampoor the Tamil Tigers have lost one of their key bases targeting Trincomalee - the port vital for the security of northern military bases.Sampoor, a south-eastern suburb in the port of Trincomalee and occupied by the Tamil Tigers under the Ranil Wickremesinghe and Chandrika Kumaratunga regimes where these two former leaders paid scant attention to the strategic importance of Trincomalee and should be noted for their indifference which could have greatly or even dangerously compromised the integrities related to Sri Lanka's naval routes and the vital importance they present to the security of the country and appeared to have been taken for granted by the Sea Tigers as part of an affirmed territorial advantage towards their cause and objectives which has now to all intents and purposes been dismantled!. In quoting the Asian Tribune it has to be reiterated that "The Wickremesinghe regime turned a blind eye to the Tamil Tigers encroaching into Sampoor territory. His regime refused to intervene saying that it would disrupt the Ceasefire Agreement. Bradman Weerakoon, the Secretary to the Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, described it as a 'confidence-building measure.' President Chandrika Kumaratunga, who first grabbed power from Wickremesinghe saying that he was not defending the nation, refused to believe that the Tigers had occupied this strategic point that could easily paralyse Trincomalee harbor." end quote where in some retrospective surmising Madame CBK was not too far from reality yet did not make any emphatic decision to maintain her convictions as her administration faded away and the issue eventually greatly neglected until this incredible surge by the present administration and the Armed Forces to whom all kudos are due unreservedly. The LTTE appear to be a defeated lot and there should be no relaxation
of the pressure currently being applied on them towards breaking their
will, morale and resistance and all the more noble that this relentless
pursuit of them is being spearheaded by the brave military leadership
of Major Gen. Fonseka who was nearly killed by an apathetic and cowardly
attack on his entourage in Colombo and perhaps poetic justice that a leader
as forceful, charismatic and a representation of true Sinhala courage
as Major Gen Fonseka is leading the onslaught towards defeating the tigers
and ridding the Nation of their unwelcome presence!
