Presidential Assertions Of His Options Towards A Terrorist Free Sri Lanka May Be Limited Despite Pragmatism and Moderation!

In the face of all his adversaries and adversities it must be acclaimed at the highest level that President Rajapakse of Sri Lanka has carried himself equitably and astutely in the execution of his duties as the leader of a Nation beset with many trials and tribulations brough on mainly by the incongruous, perverse and selfish acts of globally condemned terrorists who for a long time appeared to have at least a semblance of recognition from pockets of the international community which have by far been the enigma standing in the way of freedom from terrorism in Sri Lanka and ironically in a a world absolutely dedicated towards eradicating global terrorism.

This mercifully seems to have changed in recent times with Canada and the European Union joining in unequivocally to ban the LTTE and has probably eased much of the pressure that once existed towards 'dancing to the tunes" of the the international community’ by virtue of carrots dangled by Aid Donors as well as lopsided demands that the Government should continue to be conciliatory to the LTTE based upon the contentious theme also promoted by a blinkered previous administration/s which very nearly brought the Nation to its knees.

In this respect the President has provided yeoman leadership for Sri Lanka never before seen in recent times where he has stood his ground and unwaveringly directed operations in a manner convincing to the International Community as well as his terrorist opponents and their aides de camp by way of parliamentary proxies and supportive foreign diaspora that he will not be trifled with but is willing to be moderate despite the grave atrocities committed daily by the LTTE as well as being conscious about the economic needs of Sri Lanka which might be termed dire in the face of all the destruction inflicted by both natural and terrorist motivated causes and has been a long time coming towards redress and resolution.

To all appearances President Rajapakse has come of age as the much needed Leader of a Nation beset with perils and insurmountable odds who with his charismatic personality and a steel willed resolve seems capable of steering Sri Lanka in the right direction for all her inhabitants as a unilateral decision maker with a policy of non tolerance from obviously misguided sources hell bent on disrupting the smooth functioning of the Nation in their attempt to compromise the existences of all her freedom loving people in favour of a bunch of motley terrorists.

It is admirable that Sri Lankan President the Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksha has not minced his words in his scathing criticism of the international community in a recent address to Asian News Sources picked up by globally that it has failed over decades to see through the transparencies of the LTTE and their perverse and immoral means using every ploy available to them towards portraying themselves as the injured party with a noble cause(ignoble more likely!)while championing the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils falsely towards their own existences in a mad scramble towards survival and also exaggerating an unrealistic bigotry by the Majority Sinhalese portrayed by them in the manner of the veritable camel burying its head in the sand assuming that everything they have done towards the attempted destruction of Sovereign Sri Lanka has gone unnoticed but are being jarred to their senses that their days might be numbered and the world indeed is taking notice! Better late than never from a Sri Lankan perspective!

In a brilliantly compiled statement appearing in the Asian counterpart of the Wall Street Journal he has acclaimed with great emotion that quote unquote “while I welcome the condemnations of the Tamil Tigers' recent attrocities from the United States and European Union, as well as our international cease-fire monitors, words alone are not enough. Some countries took far too long to appreciate the true nature of the Tamil Tigers as a terrorist organization. Canada, for instance, only banned the Tamil Tigers earlier this year. And although the European Union last year imposed a travel ban on the Tamil Tigers' leaders, it only this week imposed a full scale ban " very profoundly said and all kudos to Mr. President whose leadership thus far has proved to be a tonic for the ailing Sri Lankan Nation beset with many problems of which the issue of the LTTE probably stands foremost.

He has indicated with great resolve that finding a panacea towards the scourge of the LTTE is of supreme importance towards a realistic well being and posterity of Sri Lanka. It is greatly aspired and hoped for that the direction which will be taken towards dealing with the LTTE will have no holds barred should they continue their attrocities with impunity and that their aspirations will be short lived should they continue to hope for an accomplishment of their means through terrorism and are scattered into oblivion and the Tamil Community redeemed of their evil tormentors who the LTTE really are. There needs to be a call for true Tamil leadership far removed from the terrorist means of the LTTE by more moderate sources!

Perhaps it has been mainly due to Presidential aspirations that Sri Lanka has seen several international responses to the nation's cause, truly going Sri Lanka’s way and positively against the LTTE in a remarkable swing towards urgent calls for recussitation by a beleaguered nation. It has been observed in wisdom albeit somewhat speculatively however that the outcome of these moves might not necessarily mean that Sri Lanka has finally earned the “right” to combat terrorism in the eyes of the international community which continues to remain a cause for scepticism as long as international condemnation of the LTTE remains divided and hesitant from certain quarters where lip service alone seems the order of the day, bearing India in mind!. It has to conceded that Tamil racism and terrorism against Sri Lanka and its majority Sinhala people continue to be rife in the North and East of Sri lanka which needs to be identified by the international community as being the predominant need towards resolution where the needs of all Sri Lankans are being restricted and subjugated by the evils of the LTTE.

A recent features column has summed up most appropriately what the Sri Lankan President means to the nation by expressing thus with distinctive eloquence that" President Rajapakse ascends to the highest possible ranks of a true statesman and a great leader due not only to his ability to work patiently within the shackles the Sri Lankan Nation has inherited during the regimes of the past corrupt politicians but also for his forthrightness and courage to speak up against odds that are heavily stacked against his Nation. The unspeakable agony of ‘towing the line’ drawn by international powers when the truth and justice lay somewhere else. Sri Lanka continues to be denied of the right to protect itself from terrorism by the very super powers who are engaged in a brave war against terrorism

It has to be conceded however that, In a world coming together with a united push towards eliminating the evils of terrorism there can be no distinctions or concessions towards the source of terrorism which has plagued Sovereign Sri Lanka for four decades with an extreme toll where all the influences of moderation may have to be cast aside in the best interests of the Nation where in the interim at least the voice of a pragmatic President will prevail until all options may need to been taken!
