An Assertive President Stands Firm About His Convictions, Indicative Of His Direction.

September 6th 2007

Liberate the East through his relentless army he did! and now President Rajapaksa has vowed to bring bring democracy to the Eastern Provinces and is quoted as saying that" he hoped to hold elections by the end of 2007 in the Eastern Province, which the military has seized from the Tamil Tigers They are now one step away from following suit in the North with no fanfare to herald them obviously and a downplaying of the exercise but a mere matter of time as well as being a foregone conclusion if the joint commands of the Armed Forces have their way.

Contrary to many of his critics in the opposition, the President has every conceivable means to keep his promises as he is an unvavering and astute C.E.O. as Commander in Chief who minces no words nor sways to the mendacious attempts by his opponents seeking to upend him with their cuthroat backstabbing which at times even reaches out to the sources providing donor aid to the Nation as well as calling for foreign intervention to an internal problem and shamefully portrays him as an enemey of the State when he has in fact fulfilled the role of new found patriarch who seems to be the only panacea to a dilemma which has plagued the Nation for decades now in the form of terrorism.

There are many analysts who firmly believe he is on the right track on a measured path towards restoring Tamil rights as a part of rights of all Sri lankans while synonymously defiant in his stand against LTTE terrorism which he never hesitates to condemn and alongside a vast majority of Sri Lankans beleives is the root cause of all of Sri Lanka's present day woes which has also contributed to a dwindling economy and at times a fading morale within the Nation that the vermin still linger on defying eradication.

However as a result of the determination of the Armed Forces and the direction of the President this morale seems to have regained some favourable composure since the latter's ascendency to the Presidency and the outlook for the Nation's posterity seems positive! It seems fair to conclude that all the negative aspects of Sri Lanka's fall from grace as an emerging Asian Nation was once aided and abetted by those who wanted the LTTE terrorists to succeed and the concept that the LTTE are evil now being (at times reluctantly) accepted by many Tamils who no longer want any part of Velupillai Prabhakaran's deranged idealogies to interrupt their own freedoms which have been magnanimously restored to a greater part by the Rajapaksha Administration.

President Mahinda Rajapaksha in his approach towards resolving much of what has been wrong in Sri Lanka in the not too distant past has accepted the reality that there are indeed genuine Tamil grievances which have to be eliminated while synonymously maintaining the rights of all Sri lankans regardless of ethnicity and a task which cannot be accomplished without Tamil support towards distancing the terrorists and straightaway the LTTE become a non entity and an evil, demanding elimination in the best interests of all Sri Lankans unless they relented and came to the bargaining table as Tamils rather than terrorists ( a great but perhaps unforeseeable expectations in modern day terms) and here the equation towards the maintenance of Sri Lanka's Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity becomes an all important fait acompli which has no room for the LTTE terrorists in their presernt guise .

The President has prudently affirmed his obligations to the Sinhala Nation which also encompasses all other ethnicities and cultures and has reminded the Nation as well as the world that the platform on which he was elected to the Presidency by a majority Sinhala Constituency Nationwide relative to his election manifesto made it clear that an ultimate solution to the ethnic crisis needed to be arrived at purely on the basis of a unitary state where his constituents would settle for none other. A spoke in the wheel undoubtedly for those promoting a Federal Solution as the President in all his wisdom perhaps perceives the pitfalls the nation would be subjected to on the basis of the chameleon tendencies of the LTTE who might stop at nothing to gain a foothold through any devious means even on a manipulative basis towards disrupting the normal order of things within the nation( there being sufficient panhandlers and opportunistic cuthroats ready to sell the nation towards their own gain) and carry on their campaigns from there on using their own infiltrated agents inasmuch as the TNA have attempted in the past towards their own objectives irrespective of whether or not it is relative to Eelam while hiding behind a mantle of the Federal Issue which they could easily use to their advantage while pretending to shun their terrorist garb!

This probably explains his idealogy that 'Federalism is a negative word in Sri Lanka because people think it is synonymous with dividing the country where he has indicated his preference for 'power sharing' as opposed to devolution and the hub of the Administrative infrastructure being centered around Parliament whose dictates would apply to all of Sri Lanka with no reservations or preferences albeit wthin a pluralistic soceity and assuredly terrorist free where eliminating the terrorists would also entail a foremost priority for which his Administration probably needs to draw strengths from the freedom loving Tamils themselves while isolating the evil intent of the LTTE supporting Tamil diaspora who have been suppressed effectively but perhaps not completely with an existing felt need towards the task using every resource available!

The President has gone on to say in a manner indicative of his profound pragmatism and compassion towards all Lankans, almost contemptuous of his opponents that he recognises the legitimate historic grievances of the Tamil people on the basis that they too are Sri Lankans, proud Sri Lankans where any organised repression of the rights of any Sri Lankan is a blot on all Sri Lankans. To his opponents who say peace at any price he has asserted " peace, yes, but peace with honour and dignity. And the only question that is non-negotiable is a divided Sri Lanka.” which some of his opponents seem so apathetically insensitive to despite being Sri Lankans themselves albeit lacking in the moral fibre which constitutes an undivided and unconditional love for their motherland!
