Peace Process' Leaning Towards Federalism May Spell Doom For Sri Lankan Unity.

The ever changing tone of the UNF orchestrated Peace Process created in collaboration with the LTTE ( said very emphatically ) has now taken the intonation of Federalism, the very word which was coined by the Founding Father of the Federal Party decades ago and ironically seems to be headed towards his ultimate ambit posthumously so many aeons after his passing. The LTTE seem to have taken to heart the means towards their ultimate goals, this time around in the most indirect fashion with the cunning of a fox!

Who is the Administration trying to mislead on the basis that a Federal Structure will not eventually divide the land albeit the high minded Pundits within its camp theorising a so called breakthrough in the Peace Process turning away from the reality of the platform they would be providing the LTTE towards secession?

.Regardless of the Balasingham handshakes and smiles and the olive branch waving handclasping of Prof. Peiris and the traditional Norwegian fare being offered in Oslo it would be foolhardy to ever believe that the LTTE would come clean of all their idealogies and bow down to a unified Administration as it is not a part of their fanatical nature to do so despite the new image being created by them of their sincerity towards a Peaceful Sri Lanka.Furthermore, they have never indicated an admission of guilt for their heinous attrocities towards a Sovereign Nation nor the willingness to atone for crimes against humanity and it is rather difficult to perveive in any semblance the wisdom of 'liberating' the Liberation Tigers hell bent on liberating themselves which seems to be what the Present Peace Process is all about. The Lies and innuendoes being thrown in by both sides towards false promises shocking to say the least and impressive to the gullible!

Contrary to popular myth, the LTTE do not represent the entire Tamil Community, a fact which must be emphasized time and time again and that any sensibilities which lead to the path of a Lasting Peace do not incorporate bartering with the megalomaniacs who lead this organization regardless of their present posturing which is transparent, shallow and pretentious. There has to be a doing away with the negotiations with the terrorist entity and albeit the difficulty it may present, a Tamil leadership of a more moderate nature with empathy towards Sri Lanka as a whole and without ulterior motives has to be sought after. Quoting exerpts from the latest publication of the Hindu News from India, it has been said with great perception that quote"It is difficult to accord this development a more unreserved note of welcome given the LTTE's record of fanaticism and its drive for dominance over the Tamil majority areas of northern and eastern Sri Lanka. Aside from the misgivings about the LTTE's true intent that continue to linger, the decision to establish a federal structure also leaves unanswered very crucial questions pertaining to the principles on the basis of which the path forward is to be chartered and the very many details that have to be settled before power can be devolved. Most salient in this respect is the fact that the unit of devolution has not been identified and there is no clarity as to whether or not a merger of the Northern and Eastern provinces is being envisaged."end quote and one which aligns itself to sanity, prudence and wisdom.

What the blinkered Administration fails to see is the imminent danger which would ensue in granting the LTTE any authority over the North and North East with a plethora of Muslim and other minorities inhabiting these areas together with many Sinhalese whose very existences have been threatened in the past and should the negotiations for Organizational and Administrative responsibilities be conducted with local community leaders disassociated with the LTTE the impact towards a real peace would seem appreciaby more viable than the pretences of the current process and a point the Wickremasinghe Administration should take note of with intensity.

It is painfully obvious that throughout the Peace Process the single most disregarded factor is the risk it may provide towards granting footholds to the LTTE whose stranglehold eventually would justify their creeping mentality towards expansion in these areas where already they have set up quasi police, financial and judicial systems which is a clear indication of their double standard which has not been relinquished at the Peace Negotiations at any stage.

Clearly the indications point out alarmingly towards far reaching consequences for the Sinhala Nation in as far as where the Peace Process is headed . Aspirations ( short lived possibly) by Ranil Wickremasinghe towards his own quest for power and political design while facilitating the ultimate objectives of the LTTE whose interest have little or nothing to do with pluralism for a divided Nation and must be disposed of together with the perpetrators of doom for a unified Sri Lanka ere disaster engulfs the entire Sinhala Nation.
