Realisation that Sri Lanka has not as yet returned to a normalcy which accommodates the required comfort level to justify open public gatherings which resulted in the tragic loss of a total of 14 lives comes very painfully.Accordingly, events such as the one which accounted for the lives of Housing Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, the National Athletics Coach Lakshman de Alwis, Olympic runner K. A. Karunarante and a number of others including severe injuries to large gathering of sports enthusiasts who had assembled to participate in the marathon run commencing at Weliweriya yesterday has turned out to be a macabre extravaganza of deadly implications the likes of which should in all probabilities not be repeated until the Nation has been flushed clean of the vermin LTTE which continue to plague it.

And reiterating the analogy drawn by many analysts ~ Sri Lanka News in particular, that inasmuch as being zeal and enthusiasm for a sporting event for which in Sri lanka there always is a Nationalistic ferfour albeit of a totally different complexion the events that wreaked such havoc which plunged the 1972 Munich Olympics into a bloodbath is comparable to what transpired at Weliveriya, Kelaniya in the Gampaha District in the early hours of Sunday morning and has taken on similar intonations of lax security, a relaxed holiday atmosphere and taking the surroundings for granted as impregnable by terrorists beyond the latent myth it has proved to be!.

So what of the hollow pledges by the terrorist LTTE that they would not target sports events beyond a rank disregard needed by all their audiences to any and every shade of insincere LTTE dialogue so eloquently yet so worthlessly, all the while promoting the meritworthy concept that their systematic mowing down should now become Sri Lanka's foremost priority. Perhaps there is no time to waste in letting the world take serious note of the incident towards more mumbo jumbo and the cacaphony about what needs to be done which usually follows while urging further dialogue and patience but in hindsight it is Sri Lanka that must act accordingly in dealing with the LTTE where their back needs to be broken and their activities rendered ineffective post haste right now!

The Tamil tigers have never detracted from being the directionless, misguided albeit mendacious and murderous terrorist outfit they always have been and once again their true colours have surfaced through this cowardly attack on a sporting event involving innocent civilians and Governmet officials who were participants, killing randomly and with all the premeditated intent to cause mayhem and murder, their indelible hallmark from which however an implicit lesson has to be learnt by the status quo.

While many Sri Lankan leaders have no qualms about taking the open stage and exposing themselves to the gravest dangers at the hands of indiscriminate terrorists, Velupillai Prabhakaran even if he is at deaths door himself which many believe, has silenced Jeyaraj Fernandopulle one of his most vehement critics and a tireless campaigner against terrorism and perhaps Prabhakaran has reason to be cocky although bound to be shortlived as shades of the tragic demise of the Hon Lakshman Kadirgamar begin to permeate one's memory and angers the rationalities of those who remember where the call to arms to wipe them out seems to grow louder in Sri Lanka with each passing day.

While Mr Fernandopulle chose to be among his people braving an elusive enemy known for cowardly attacks, interpreted by some as suicidal as were some others before him, and an open ended gamble towards confrontation with the terrorists, Prabhakaran continued to burrow deeper into his bunker far from it all while issuing his murderous commands to the suicide squads with no regard for their own lives.

An optimum quote by Sri Lanka News attests to a stark reality of great relevance that " Survival of LTTE targets must depend on their ability to think like terrorists short of acting like them and to take precautions without exposing themselves to terror strikes unnecessarily. Unfortunately, most of them walk right into the jaws of death, as if affected by taedium vitae. Jeyaraj`s assassination, it may be argued, had an element of suicidal tendency. For, knowing that he was a prime target of the LTTE, he lowered his guard to flag off a marathon in an area with heavy terrorist infiltration, throwing caution to the wind. " and a better quote evaluating the shortcomings of the Sri Lankan hierarchy and presenting the all important tenet which has preserved the likes of Osama Bin Laden and Velupillai Prabhakaran thus far and the implicit lesson to be learned as mentioned previously towards the self preservation of Governmental leadership, mainly the art of survival in a terrorist laden environment never better expressed.

Cut out the machismo, initiate a war footing if necessary to confront and combat the LTTE wherever they are hiding, bring on a war measures act in conjunction with the prevention of terrorism act and push forward relentlessly until the psychotic killer
Prabhakaran, hiding in an underground bunker somewhere in the Wanni is flushed out as his total demise alone seems to be the remedy to Sri Lanka's ills concerning the terrorists where another important national quote by Sri Lanka news takes relative prominence!"The Nation can ill afford activities of leisure and entertainment in any wide perspective, while the war is raging and the LTTE is all out to wreak havoc. It is mindboggling why so many motoring events, exhibitions, marathons, bicycle races, political rallies should happen at a time when the war has reached a crucial juncture. Any other country would have been on a war footing by now. and verily so!

All the bravado emanating from pro LTTE sympathisers attest to a dependence on the well being of Prabhakaran where not a single whimper of independent progress or an agenda of a Prabhakaranless LTTE has ever been heard through four decades of insurgent strife as they all line up behind him as Nation polluting cockroaches who are deluded into thinking of him as a leader and are brainwashed into accepting a directionless malignant identity hand in hand with the Tamil diaspora and blinkered Western idealogues who continue to provide platforms towards their survival and existences in Sri Lanka where to all intents and purposes they should be crushed and their support towards upkeeping the Prabhakaran ego which translates into LTTE attrocities rendered innefective!!

A final note of imperative importance carried by Sri Lanka News suggests that " The success of the current politico-military campaign against terrorism consists in the government's ability to deny Prabhakaran opportunities to offset his battlefield losses with devastating terror strikes elsewhere. If the government leaders lower their guard the way Jeyaraj did yesterday, they will certainly provide Prabhakaran with an escape routes via the political front, where all pro-LTTE forces are gathering." and needs to be heeded as lessons must be learned without which the LTTE's means to infiltrate and corrode all the principles of Sri Lanka's Sovereign democracy could be that much easier and perhaps apocalyptic despite being more speculative than realistic! Sinister enough however to jar the Nation and its leaders to their senses!
