India's Support Towards Dismantling The Tiger Outfit Has To Be Considered Indispensable.

Feb.11th 2008

The calls for India to intervene and help the island nation to defeat LTTE chief V Prabhakaran "who will never agree" to any solution of the ethnic problem by a prominent Sri Lankan Tamil Leader is astutely wise and sensible. This is an International Award winning leader who has a high reputation for fairness and a true freedom fighter for every human being within his realm and perhaps beyond, Mr V Anandasagaree former leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front has spoken out strongly against the LTTE terrorists and a voice which needs to be given much ear to, with a few circumventable considerations nonetheless as Sri Lanka is not all about the oppressed minority Tamils but incorporates a teeming masss of some 20 million people of diverse cultures and ethnicities of which the Sinhalese are a vast majority who also have many needs to be addressed as a result of LTTE attrocities.

There is a general consensus amongst many discerning analysts and logical schools of thought that the mendacious as well as psychotic Velupillai Prabhakaran could only be dealt, with through his capture, incarceration of his murderous and destructive band of terrorists and brought to justice for crimes against humanity if the cyanide capsules and self destructive mechanisms are circumvented that is and apparently no easy task where time will tell. There is also a new theory that the man is no more but yet to be confirmed and proven and needs to be viewed with the necessary cautions.

It is now beyond speculation and an established reality based on their continuing track record and vehemence that the LTTE terrorists under Prabhakaran never have or ever will settle for anything beyond a means towards their own survival which in a relative and rational sense does not incorporate any agenda of Sovereign, Democraric Sri Lanka where not a single country in the world will any longer support his demand for a separate homeland for Tamils in Sri Lanka, which Indian leader Mr. V Anandasangaree has implicitly pointed out and is not alone in this school of thought. The concept of illegitimate secession is not only an LTTE fabrication but also one which has now been scoffed at by many intelligent and self reliant Tamils who see no future in it under a terrorist leadership.

It is a truism which cannot be contested beyond its total reality and lends wings to the concept that the Sri Lankan Governmen's decision to abrogate from the ceasefire has been well justified where there rests in the aftermath the prime obligation to address the needs of the Minority Tamil Community notwithstanding those of the rest of the population once the terrorists are disbanded and rendered ineffective which seems academic as the Armed Forces continue their relentless pursuit towards this objective with more than a huge measure of success.

It must however be pointed out that agitating for a Federal solution to the Tamil issue based on the federal concept followed in India in the aftermath of the anticipated LTTE defeat would not be a sufficient end to the means of restoring normalcy nor the appropriate solution to Sri Lanka's problems which were set in place by the initial coming together of the LTTE terrorists whose demand for a separate state could then be likened to the federal solution suggested by certain Indian leaders and others as it would be tantamount to the same.

The correct solution perhaps would be better likened to one of plurality under the present system of Administration with all rights restored to all Sri Lankans including the Tamils whose inherant right it is towards the expectation where power sharing could be amongst a fairly distributed system of elected representatives regardless of ethnicity with much work still needed at drawing board level and no simple task.

Otherwise the scenario of the diversely opinionated melting pot of Indian politics which has caused so much unrest and conflict for generations in India could easily manifest itself as a paradox within the confines of Sri Lanka and a veritable jumping from the frying pan into the fire. However if the proper cautions are exercised and new directions taken towards formulating a constitutionally stable Administration and the necessary changes made without a federal approach, Sri Lanka could very well look towards the long sought after posterity with every expectation of accomplishing it although the categorical dissentors will never cease to be whose collective voices have always been spokes in the wheels of Lanka progress and need to be rendered negligible through affirmative action and assertive policies to appease the Nation as a whole, not a fragmented ethnic divide where federalism then becomes a dirty word!

While it has already been established that the strengths of the former autocratic albeit despotic Prabhakaran are virtually non existent any longer, Mr Anandasagaree's exhortation that India should intervene and help Sri Lanka defeat LTTE is plausible towards the eventality of a total cleanup of the LTTE terrorist element and effacing them from every aspect of their existences as a predominant priority towards the expectation. In this respect many hands would make light work of the task indeed both morally as well as logistically and the all important military strength to which the Indian contribution needs no empasizing for its importance.

As very dilligently highlighted by Mr Anandasagaree together with many voicings of many discerning analysts in many important political spheres within Sri Lanka who also endorse the same sentiments to a great intensity it is a salient expectation that very soon if it has not already transpired the international community needs to understand the grave risk of supporting the demands of LTTE and to deny their direction towards continued terrorist means would be an implementation of international justice and a huge inroad of succes in the war against global terrorism which somehow and most uncannily seems to have had a safe haven in the past in Sri Lanka due to the misgivings of a few myopic leaders and foreign meddlers who are no longer effective.

Caution also needs to be exercised that by reaching out to India there can be no compromising of Sri Lanka's Sovereign and Territorial Integrity which many analysts perceive as an unmitigated risk, India being the superpower she is and the tenets of Tamil Nadu's outcry towards delivering their Tamil Bretheren in Sri Lanka which has been falsely projected through LTTE propaganda which is indeed the risk refered to but the bonafide responses of India through genuine concerns for Sri Lanka's Sovereignity perhaps the paradigm towards expected loyalties and dispelling unfounded paranoia!

All things considered, India's support towards dismantling the Tiger outfit has to be considered indispensable and a means to assure Regional Security in addition to the well being of Sri Lanka where the TULF leader has hit the right button!
