Canada's Decision To Outlaw The LTTEThese are perhaps the best of times in Sri Lanka's standoff against the Tamil Tiger terrorists and the worst of times for the terrorists themselves. The New Conservative Government of Canada under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper has definitely outlawed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam with no prevaricating like previous Liberal Administrations and has surely emboldened the Canadian Tamils as well as all others around the globe who do not advocate the mendacious policies of the Tamil Tigers to have no more anxieties about helping the Canadian Law Enforcement Agencies to bring to book on all illegal and surreptitous activities of the now outlawed Sri Lankan Tamil based terrorist movement whose only objective as the world is fast learning despite all their smokescreens is their own survival and their pretended representations of the Tamil Community a mere charade. Canada's new Public Safety Minister Mr. Stockwell Day a long standing campaigner against the terrorist scourge of the LTTE and their widespread activities which went on unabated for decades under previous regimes has asserted somewhat contentedly that the decision to completely outlaw the LTTE in Canada was long overdue, all but suggesting that it could have been accomplished sooner but for administrative neglect of previous Liberal Governments. The banning comes as an interesting pre-cursor to the 2nd round of Norwegian-brokered peace talks which are about to resume in Geneva ands is already causing a stir amongst sections of Canada's pro LTTE Tamil community around Toronto who appear to be "up a creek without a paddle" as some analysts observed as their champions who were bragging about a renewed effort to confront the Government of Sri Lanka through terror tactics which they termed Eelam War 3 will have to reconsider the futility of any intended aggression against the Government of Sri Lanka as yet another world power has joined in sticking a spoke in their wheel of terror related insurgency which their banning by Canada tantamounts to! Canada's other outspoken campaigner against international terrorism, new Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay has indicated that there are no bi-partisan leanings in this decision towards compromising 'any side' but that it is very much about expressing a desire to see the progress of Sri Lanka's peace process headed in the proper direction through peaceful means where the need to quell the clandestine activities of the LTTE which have gone on for a long time within Canada could also be construed as an outstanding issue towards this objective. Mr.MacKay has also very graciously pledged full Canadian assistance towards resolving Sri Lanka's ethnic problem where he has extended an offer to host peace talks in Canada if desired. That the LTTE have overstepped the leniencies of the Candian Governments which tolerated them in the past is an understatement as the flagrant violations of Canadian Law towards their own agenda was a consternation for all the law enforcement agencies and security watchdogs restrained from taking affirmative action against their activities by reason of Governmental indifference as the LTTE through their supportive Tamil diaspora campaigned furiously towards their vicious criminalities in Sri Lanka which has taken a toll of nearly 65,000 lives over 3 decades. "Canada's action most certainly sends a signal to the Tamil community favourable towards LTTE activities wherever they might reside in Canada that the Government will not tolerate terrorism or terrorist activities any longer and what it translates to in Canadian Legal terms is that the listing of the LTTE as a banned and outlawed organization means it would be illegal for anyone in Canada to support or participate in any form of Tiger activities. Here then is a precedent set by Canada for all other nations around the world who might be undecided about proscribing the LTTE and their activities to emulate as the world needs to unite in the cause towards completely overrunning the evils of the LTTE whose criminalities continue to shock the world on a daily basis and even at the present moment their terrorist attrocities are being perpetrated in Sri Lanka where they are said to be regrouping their sea craft capabilities and initiating claymore mine attacks and ambushes on unsuspecting Armed Forces personnel during their falsely pretended appearances at the Geneva Talks where the so called Peace Process and Ceasefire is fast turning out to be a farce and a whimsical figure of speech. |
