  Government refutes President's charges

Priot to the commencement pf the Peace Talks Defence Minister Tilak Marapana has assured President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga that, quote "The Ministry of Defence has in no way permitted the LTTE to continue unabated serious violations of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)". Verbal assurances given to the President in response to her grievencase on behalf of the Nation's Security By the Defence Ministry that they are unfounded are pitifully insufficient and insignificant.

That the the present regime has not permitted the LTTE to carve inroads towards securing their currently shaky foundations and glaringly ignore important stipulations in the Preace Process is becoming more and more visible while Minister Marapana continues his innuendos reminiscent of the Emperor who marched the streets with no clothes! yet coercing his subjects to beleive he was fully clothed and continued to bow in obeisance !.The facts stick out like sore thumbs regardless of the apathetically transparent verbal assertions recently made by Minister Marapana in particular whose substantiations have not been supported by any hard evidence to disprove the Presidents claims yet has the nerve to state that "He is not aware of any of the intelligence reports and there has been no hard evidence presented to him" thereby disclaiming them whereas even the Norwegian and other foreign monitors involved in the Peace Process in addition to many intelligent sources, have made observations confirming the Presidents doubts.

The continued denials by Government sources that all's well within the security perimeters of the Nation is becoming a cause for great concern by all who stand to be gravely affected by any displacement of the balance of authority between the Armed Forces and the LTTE in favour of the latter and the pomposity with which the contradictions of the Defence Minister have been presented makes the Nation at large wonder whether it is the prurience of the Administration combined with its obstreperous forging ahead towards its nefarious designs entailing the Peace Process(Selfishly motivated possibly) regardless of consequences which spurs on such inconsistencies.

The logic of it all suggests that the Defence Ministry is scoffing at presented evidence by the Armed force and has rank disregard for Presidential wisdom and authority wherein may lie the catalyst toward the restitution of the Nation's Security and needs to be further confronted and bona fides established that this is not the beginning of a pattern conducive towards a total destabilization of the Nation due to the apathy of its current defenders. There was no denying factually the recent confrontation in Trincomalee between the Armed Forces and the LTTE which was a blatant violation of the ceasefire by the LTTE as it involved the transportation of weaponry by them yet the Defence Ministry fails to acknowledge the fact and denies it lending credence to Presidential concerns and the eye wash goes on!

What the Administration fails to realise is that there are visible dangers ahead for the Nation regardless of the outcome of the Peace Talks as the LTTE are not a bunch of thumb sucking infants to be unaware of the territorial and projected administrative advantages they have already gained through carelessnes or connivance (whatever definition is appropriate) of the Administration and Peace through compromise and eventual subjugation to a terrorist entity with a ruthless and destructive track record would be absolutely worthless to the Nation. To add insult to injury the Peace Process could become legally invalid both Nationally and Internationally as it had not included representations of the President and Chief Executive Officer Of The Nation of Sri Lanka making it totallt unacceptable.

What the President is trying very determinedly to illustrate to the Nation and the Defence Minister is that the on going dialogue with the LTTE rings rather hollow and appears very transparent given the fact that attitudes taken by the Wickremasinghe Administration although apparently conducive towards peace is one which displays its jumping at every stipulation thrown and at a times even appearing to ask "How High!" and furthermore gives no assurances to the Nation that this is not a High Risk Gamble which seems to be sinking deeper into a mire of uncertainty as regardless of the baloney and spiel of the Defence Ministry there are grave causes for concern as illustrated by Madam President that Sri Lanka could be headed towards a collission course with disaster by leaving its defences as open as it is today.

If this is a move by the Administration pased purely upon trust and hope then may it be said that a wise sage once remarked that "Hope Is For The Hopeless Unless That Hope Is Substantiated by Reality!"
