What's Really Relevant Towards
Resolving Sri Lanka's Terrorist Problem
Hope it is sometimes said is for the hopeless as seems to be the case
of those hanging onto a flimsy thread of the concept as any hope that
the subversive criminals of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam would
somehow respond to diplomatic pressure and renounce their terrorist
tactics ahead of the cease-fire negotiations scheduled for the end of
the month seems to be dimmi9ng by the day. They have now inflicted so
much damage to the Nation through the suicide attacks that killed more
than 100 Sri Lankan sailors this week as well as a string of other attrocities
among which todays attack on the Galle Harbour tolling 16 lost lives
takes prominenence towards the theme that the Terrorists now have free
access to Sinhala populated areas and the time for talking must be deemed
a thing of the past as more affirmative action is surely needed to quell
and rid the Nation of Sri Lanka of the offal of humanity who call themselves
liberators! They need to be expunged and liberated from their own existences
in order that Sri lanka will once again emerge as a resplendent Isle!
It seems almost perverse that the government continues to uphold the
merits of peace talks with the terrorists with the suport of political
consensus from all the wrong areas especially those of the UNP (some
of them indicted criminals and some who have got away with crimes!)who
are primarily responsible for the aberration of relaxed security and
concessions to the LTTE which are the most probable causes for the vermin
LTTE infiltrating into Sinhala populated areas and carrying out their
vicious attacks and there seems a crying need for the government to
literally "Cut The Bull" and get on with the unenviable but
absolutely imperative task of searching and destroying the LTTE infiltrators
bearing in mind that there is a huge difference between Tamil terrorists
and decent Tamil citizens of Sri Lanka where the need for self preservations
has to be identified as an axiom for the Sinhala nation!
In a very long time despite past confabs at international level involving
many leaders from many nations interested in resolving Sri lanka's crisis
whether through ulterior motives and percieved vested interests or not,
the absolute need to negotiate a permanent end to of violence in Sri
Lanka has once again been grossly undermined by the rebel group's continuing
violence for which some of those responsible for the leniencies shown
them in previous political incumbencies need to be held responsible
and perhaps even taken to task where criminalizing them may not seem
such a bad idea!
While the Peace talks are still on line to be carried out, of what benefit
might they be for Sri Lankans so grievously harmed by the terrorists,
beyond a psychological salvation which truly defeats the purpose of
truly coming to terms with the stark reality that there is the presence
of the devil himself roaming freely amongst innocent civilians and hence
the urgent need to search and destroy before the dialogue towards peace
is once again resumed and this time with sane an rational Tamils rather
than rabid and vicious killers who have to be destroyed to the last
remaining supportive based upon the proclaimed authority the Sri Lankan
Armed Forces now have over the LTTE! The have indeed made a fair start
to this objective given the continuing raids on LTTE encampments, the
so called Sea Tiger enclaves and boats, their miniscule and feebly attempted
charade towards air capability and even their broadcasting facilities
and the direction by the Authorities needs to ne more assertive towards
a determinatiuon which will not rest until the foe are vanquished to
their entirety and all their attempts to destroy Mother Lanka are thwarted.
Truly the only means for the Government of Sri Lanka to ensure that
the Tamil terrorists can be forced into truly renouncing violence now
appears to be through the only means which they would comprehend as
their inability to visualize the purposelesness of killing and the threat
they pose to the nation makes it the very essence of a push towards
eliminating them which now has very vocal and sincere support from the
world's superpowers as an alternative if all the signals are to be interpreted
correctly.Even subtlely in the cases of some for very obvious reasons
by virtue of a need to maintain their statuses and dignities, have spared
little thought in the overall scheme of things, their assent for retaliatory
and preventive action against the terrorists where a negotiated settlement
may seem an unlikely prospect without a real alternative, a situation
created by the ignorance, insensitivities and lack of consciences of
the terrorists themselves.
The term legimate seems inappropriate and inapplicable towards applying
it to internationally condemned and outlawed terrorists where one asks
"what are these legitimate cease-fire talks requiring the Tamil Tigers
to match the government's level of commitment to peace?" when they
continue their killings and devastations within a Sovereign Nation and
does it not seem logical that being the statusless 'persona non grata'
they truly are within Sri Lanka with her Public Enemy No1 as their leader!
they need to be coralled, rounded up and brought to justice rather than
being negotiated with in jocund fashion which makes the negotiators seem
all but assinine and a bunch of circus clowns perhaps!
During the past several decades there have been many peace efforts, however
which acheived little or nothin towards the objective a of a lasting peace
beyond the metaphor as whenever the LTTE and their pitiful entourage have
entered negotiations and cease-fire agreements with huge handshakes, hugs,
swigs of booze, sumptious repasts, (covert libidinous forays by some it
has also been whispered!) etc. and the promise to uphold signed conventions
only to take advantage of Governmental integrity towards their pledges
to secretly regroup, rearm and relaunch their offensives.
It must be emphasied at this point that an all important quote in the
Wahington Times' current editorial points out very appropriately that
-"The Tamil Tigers are not interested in peaceful co-existence; their
only goal is to win substantial territorial concessions, which is a nonstarter
for the Sri Lankan government, and justifiably so. The Tigers, furthermore,
lack any real support of the Tamil people and intimidate their opposition
into silence. This is a negotiation between a state and the terrorist
group that pioneered the use of suicide bombing. Under no circumstances
can they be considered equals, and it's essential that the international
community, as it works to put the country on the right track, pronounce
this distinction ardently. (Indeed, the United States refuses to negotiate
with any terrorist groups.) Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher,
who has rightly noted that the Tigers are a "terrorist group that
needs to be treated accordingly," travels to Sri Lanka this week
to meet with government officials and members of a Japanese envoy working
in the country. While the trip should convey U.S. concern with the violence,
the only effective way for the international community to pressure the
Tamil Tigers is by targeting the group's world-wide fundraising network.
The recent arrests in Baltimore of six men accused of purchasing weapons,
including Russian-made surface-to-air missiles, for the Tigers, which
came only a few months after similar arrests were made in a sting operation
in New York, are the first concrete actions taken since the United States
classified the Tamils as a terrorist organization in 1997. These important
arrests should be followed by forceful prosecution. This is precisely
the kind of action that U.S. authorities need to take to disrupt the flow
of money and weapons to the Sri Lankan terrorists, which is the only way
to force the group into earnest negotiations. " end quote and need
there be anymore euphemisms towards what's really relevant towards the
means to resolve Sri Lanka's terrorist problem than to take them out completely
and hopefully with a little help from friends if the task cannot be effected
unilaterally?
