The Latest Foreign News Bulletins On Sri Lanka's Response To Terrorism Misleading And Needs Re-Phrasing!

September 19th 2006

Perhaps there is a felt need to re-phrase and edit some of the latest bulletins being broadcast by the pro LTTE media that " Sri Lanka's Government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa is pursuing a "military option'' in the ethnic conflict with Tamils and allowing paramilitary groups to attack civilians" as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam have been quoted recently. The reference to paramilitaries obviously being a subtle reference to their nemesis Karuna and one of their own creation which has now turned against them for which they have only themselves to blame despite the poetic justice that seems to be wrapped around the advances of the Karuna faction into systematically taking out the LTTE and are in fact doing the Government of Sri Lanka and its armed forces a huge favour. In retrospect perhaps as a reward at the end of it all Karuna needs to be recognized as a legitimate Tamil leader in the aftermath of LTTE leader in hiding Velupillai Prabhakaran (if still amongst the living) being meted out the justice he richlly deserves and nothing short of capital punishment!

All the latest contributors to the hoopla and hype that project the LTTE as a group deserving recognition and sympathy seem blinkered to many realities which categorise the LTTE as a bunch of criminals deserving stringent justice.Remarkably amongst them certain international news engines such as the BBC and even Bloomberg the New York based newsweb site where both sources amongst a host of others too numerous to mention seem to have forgotten that the Sri Lankan Government is pursuing a path towards eradicating a criminally motivated internal armed insurrection linked to international terrorism and well within their right to do so being a sovereign nation while also being magnanimous in continuing to offer the means to these conscienceless terrorists to come clean , lay down arms, relent their non negotiable (from a Government standpoint) secessionist objectives rather than press home the advantage the Government forces have now secured towards overrunning the terrorists to complete annihilation which could easily be the ultimate eventuality despite "conscientious objectors!!"

The pro LTTE lobby who through their mouthpieces have had the nerve to present the LTTE as a legitimate entity when they have been resoundingly condemned and outlawed around the world ( some 29 countries at present and counting!) need to be presented with a few home truths pointing out that regardless of their rhetoric the LTTE continue to remain a terror group with no ground to stand on nor demand any legitimacies towards their existence as long as they continue to perpetrate attrocities on the Sri lankan Government and the citizens of Sri Lanka as is the case at present and have no right to any recourse and should accept their dues which the Sri Lankan armed forces are meting out to them in containing them to the point of minimal retaliation with a resignation which has no alternative.

To suggest that "All the president's utterances of peace talks and the all- party conference are only smoke screens to deflect criticism from his militaristic approach,'' sounds like this very resignation that the LTTE are now taking the beating of their lives and running for cover where they seem to have realised that this could easily be the beginning of the end of their terrorist existence and the Government should be very conscious that to release the commanding grip they appear to have on the LTTE in every perspective would be foolhardy as it would merely provide them the means to replenish their cause and regroup towards furthering thier objectives.

While all the publicity in favour of the LTTE continue it must be highlighted in order to reach all corners of the globe that The Tamil Tigers are forcing civilians to live in fear in rebel-held areas, where abductions and extortion are rife in the rebel occupied areas of the North and East of Sri Lanka which is one of the reasons why their relentless pursuit by the Armed Forces is so apparent and that to all intents and purposes Sri Lanka's peace process has collapsed after the worst fighting since a 2002 cease-fire began in May, leading to the rebel-held northern Jaffna peninsula being cut off.

When the government and rebels are purported to be saying "they" are willing to hold talks if the other side stops hostilities and upholds the truce it seems somewhat lopsided and somewhat of a ploy by the LTTE to buy time for themselves and on the part of the Government a wasted effort which if adhered to could have ramifications of releasing the stranglehold it appears to be having presently on the LTTE and the better option perhaps to destabilise them further and initiate talks with a saner representation of the Tamil Community rather than with the rabid bunch of predators the LTTE have always proved to be combined with despots such as SP Thamilselvam and Anton Balasingham to name a few!!

"What has the LTTE thus far provided towards accepting them as a legitimate entity in the best interests of Sri Lanka and her citizens towards posterity?" is the question which comes foremost to the minds of the discerning both nationally and internationally where LTTE violence which has gravely devastated the existences of individuals with a legitimate right to live as freedom loving sons and daughters of Sri Lanka and caused mayhem and anguish to many families who have lost loved ones to LTTE violence. Their pre-planned and concerted albeit cowardly attacks include the sniper killing of one of Sri Lanka's much loved Foreign Ministers as well as suicide bomb attacks which have killed and seriously injured Army personnel, the bombing of a bus which killed innocent civilians including school children, the murders and disappearance of civilians including Tamils which have continued even after the Geneva talks in February not forgetting the assassination of India's beloved Rajiv Gandhi. Are these human beings with any right to demand a humane response to their "needs or are these degenerate sub humans who deserve to be put out of their misery in the wake of all the pain and devastations they the LTTE as a terror group have inflicted on Sovereign Sri Lanka where rehabilitation is not necessarily an option ?

The rebels' bifurcated and perhaps falsely presented desire for peace merely to attract the international community has certainly been put in doubt by yesterday's ruthless massacre of 11 innocent unarmed Muslim civilians in eastern Sri Lanka and the sinking off Batticaloa of a ship carrying weapons destined for the rebels intercepted by the Armed Forces which does not warrant any leniencies in how the Government of Sri Lanka needs to deal with them.

And to those broadcasters of a falseley presented image of the Sri Lankan Government as" a war monger hell bent towards a military option" the message needs to be sent that their interpretations of the intentions of the Government sounds not only laced with pro LTTE bias but also carries the portrayal of a fecund imagination linked to misconceptions in their own minds of what is best for sovereign Sri lanka beyond the total elimination of the scourge which has plagued the nation for decades!
