The LTTE Have No Bargaining Rights Whatsoever To Any Demands Made By Them To The International Community!

October 19th 2007

Whenever the terrorists of the LTTE address the international Community to step up pressure on the Government of Sri Lanka to halt military operations it is a clear indication that their yellow underbelly is showing as well as hurting and that they are becoming more insecure about their future and are merely searching for a means to regroup.Recent history has certainly proved this and it would probably be foolhardy for the Government of Sri Lanka and the Armed Forces to even consider relaxing the pressure applied on them unless they openly denounce their objectives, lay down arms and come to the negotiating table as part of the mainstream Tamil society which they have no real claims towards representation although the impression is created falsely by the terrorists that they are. This in a climate where many Tamils have ostracized the LTTE terrorists from being part of their society and want no part of their mediations on behalf of Tamil freedoms being well aware of the price ordinary Tamils will have to pay in addition to what they already have, and claims which more often than not are based upon false pretexts and only towards their own survival!

It seems laughable that Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka who are being hit from all sides legitimately by the Armed Forces and their relentless drive to preserve the sovereignity and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka have urged the international community to step up pressure on the Government to halt military operations against them as though they have any right to this demand when their impure and mendacious objectives continue albeit to a lesser degree than previously for reasons relative to their strengths being weakened and their vulnerabilities exposed. But the Government of Sri Lanka has no obligations to relax the intensity of the relentless pursuit of these criminals who need to be either eliminated, totally wiped out or at least subjugated towards ineffectivity as terrorists and brought to justice before any negotiations with the freedom loving Tamil community can begin and this seems to be a fact of life in Sri Lanka today based on the route of no return the LTTE have chosen towards their own self destruction which seems ideally suited for Sri Lanka at the end of which even a degree of normalcy should return to the Nation which needs to be terrorist free towards posterity.

It must be remembered in great detail the perils of the past where any leniency towards the LTTE by the Government of Sri Lanka,( in itself a kindness) has been misinterpreted by the terrorists as weakness and the rest is history. Even the ceasefire and peace agreement which was signed somewhat insignificantly and imperceptively by a previous regime has only provided a platform as well as a screen for the LTTE to regroup but mercifully due to the vigilance and strengths of the Armed Foces and their resilience in how they confronted the terrorists and applied all their resources and intelligence towards the task led by a very astute and alert Commander of the Forces the terrorists today are on the run and hence probably their veiled pleas indicate entreaties towards clemency which cannot be granted unless they relent fully which is something the terrorists are not prepared to do. Hence they must face the consequences without whimpering to the international community and resign themselves to the eventuality that there is no future for them in their present guise and a world in total condemnation of global terrorism which they are a party to.

Perhaps the recent heavy fighting in the North of the country resulting in heavy terrorist casualties has once again awakened the disillussioned cadres of the LTTE fleeing the Armed Forces that theirs is a dead end as vast numbers of their group are being killed and greivously wounded in the skirmishes as suddenly their rhetoric is urging restraint where calls to rein in the Government in Colombo has also taken on a somewhat ludicrous tone where they are also calling to honour a 2002 truce which was totally disregarded by them as an alternative towards regrouping which was eventually steeped in utter failure as their attempts to regroup came a cropper due to the relentless pursuit of the Armed Forces.

When the Tamil Tigers synonymously accuse the Government of pursuing a military campaign to defeat the guerrillas they are not far from the truth which is the bounden right of a sovereign nation beset by the evils of terrorism and perhaps a priority which should have been pursued previously with greater intensity by the Government which chose to negotiate with the terrorists and seemingly a gross mistake as the turn of events have proved to be today and as the saying goes "the only good tiger apparently seems to be a dead tiger or one restricted to a cage with iron bars! with no direct reference to the natural tiger species which are on the verge of extinction themselves but for totally unrelated reasons and whose noble name or comparisons with, the terrorists have no right to being the unprincipled disoriented bunch they are!

It must be noted that this sudden call for peace by the terrorists seems to be a direct response to Sri Lanka's defense secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksha who has offered to halt military action against the rebels if they agreed to peace talks where the most important pre-condition to such a situation needs to be accompanied by an undertaking by the terrorists towards laying down arms and relenting on their objectives or else there shouild be no deal! Mr Rajapaksha's magnanimity cannot extend towards overlooking this condition which is of utmost importance towards the preservation of the Nation.

The greater speculation by experts however who analyse this scenario indicates the relative realities which point towards neither side realistically returning to any negotiations as the Defence Secretary's proposal is a call made to unrelenting terrorists out to buy time and no more.Consequently lessons have to be learnt from the past where approaching the terrorists with leniency might prove to be a dangerous and costly option unless they are totally disarmed or incapacitated.

Presently it is indeed the Government that is engaging in very succesful military operations with just cause against the terrorists with the advantage of knowing their weaknesses and a point to ponder upon before carelessly losing this advantage by responding to what may be a ruse by the terrorists and instigated by a myopic international community not totally aware of the dynamics of a sovereign nation's desperate fight against ruthless terrorists who are also experts at hoodwinking any unsuspecting audience at any given time with their theatrics albeit consequently presenting no real choice about which entity needs the greater credibility when it comes to choosing between them and the Government of Sri Lanka!

Given their worthlessness as wanted and proscribed criminals the LTTE have no bargaining rights whatsoever to any demands made by them as their continued existence merely poses a greater threat to the world if given any leeway towards regrouping and their recent calls to the international community can only be interpreted as a ploy towards this very objective and intolerable!
