The Coming Together Of A New Sinhala Alliance To Ursurp The Present Administration Could Spell Disaster To The Nation.

March 20th 2007

There is no nuance in the speculation that United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Former Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera have simultaneously called for 'unity' among those who want to 'protect' democracy to counter what they have called “an emerging government tyranny.” Further speculation that both these schemers and former President Chandrika Bandaranaika together with an indisputable chamelon of indistinguishable political loyalties based on how he perceives the extent to which he could line his own pockets as well as gratify some of his other mundane and perhaps physical needs at the expense of unsuspecting victims and recently imerged from incarceration, a name hardly worth mentioning by virtue of its infamy are attempting to come together in an alliance to launch an' attack' on the government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa does not simplify what the overall outcome of such an alliance by such a group of dubiuous politicians who have left the Nation in near shambles would be!beyond disaster. It is something the Nation has to brace for in dread apprehension!

In a climate which has brought respite for the nation in many areas under the pragmatic and wise leadership of Mahinda Rajapakska regardless of criticism levelled at his faith in the adage "there's safety in numbers and one's blood is thicker than water" Sri Lanka has stabilised from the ungainly insecure nation it was some decades ago!.Now it appears that his adversaries, which normally should be the enemy from the outside are in reality the enemy from within translating to the Sinhalese enclave of politicians in whom he placed so much trust but have now reneged on him instead of pitting their fullest support in the best interests of the Country at a time when National Unity seems imperative! So is it any wonder that certain areas of Tamil dissent regardless of whether they support the LTTE or not still sing that age old song "Sinhalaya Modaya?"

Even in fickle speculation relative to the goings on in the political spectrum of Sri Lanka today given their track record, the likes of a union of Ranil Wickremesinghe, Mangala Samaraweera, S.B Dissanayake and Chandrika Kumaratunga could spell disaster for Sri Lanka and undo a world of good which has been set in place in the post Rajapaksha Presidential victory era where Sri Lanka has stood firm against her enemies and has earned the respect of many Nations as one which will never be intimidated by the impure devises and designs of greed and the hunger for power not only of terrorists but its own kith and kin which are the embodiments of a residual quantity of shameful Sinhalese to whom National Unity means little or nothing!! To add insult to the injuries attempted by these puny individuals they then attempt to slander and denigrate the President and his astute administration whose task towards restoring the ills of Sri Lanka are by no means a cake walk given the many obstacles needing to be overcome and these so called preachers of democracy need to take a good look at themselves in the mirror first!

The President may have his critics on many platforms and there may be many accusations levelled at him over his modus operandi and administrative direction but Sri Lanka has certainly earned more than a modicum of respect as previously mentioned, in the international arena as a Nation headed in the proper direction towards posterity and that her no nonsense leadership and its configuration of patriotic allies are the reason for this. The confidences from foreign allies have once again begun to build. Industrial giants such as China, Russia, India and to a lesser degreePakistan together with many western Powers such as the USA, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to name some have despite a few contentions over speculated human rights glitches by some~ mostly through media hype that reality have pitted their faith and support in favour of Sri Lanka towards the future and have acknowledged that the present administrative direction is a correct and justified one whereas a motley few are trying to desecrate this concept towards their own gains which is something apathetic and to a degree ignorant!

No longer is there a trepidation that this is a leader who is capable of selling out the Nation towards his own gain or political stability and supremacy although his enemies continue to portray the Nation's charismatic President as someone who is just that and is in connivance with the enemy which is a horribly untrue accusation! and any negative accusations against him coming from areas such as the Wickremesinghe, Samaraweera, Sooriyaarachi, Kumaratunga, Dissanayake et al - camp need to be cast to the winds and ignored as expletives of anguish by a group of disgruntled, frustrated and disillusioned discards of former administrative power whose very presence in the political arena of Sri Lanka today could pose a danger of disrupting and dismantling all the inroads made by the Rajapaksha Administration and there have been quite a few.

The simplest way to arrive at this conclusion is to merely look back at the dismal track record of these individuals alongside a few others who have pledged alliance to them in what they say is a great threat to democracy in Sri Lanka where the reality of it rests on the danger of a coming together of these individuals which would pose the real threat to Sri Lanka.

Furthermore the threat of LTTE terrorism has been pushed into the farthest corner in living memory and the armed forces have them on the run.The nation's economy which was teetering during the Chandrika Kumaratunga regimes due to her own idealogies and excesses of bifurcated Governmental spending at long last seems to be headed in the right direction albeit slowly. An element of security and confidence has been restored that the Nation will not be plagued by terrorism due to a willy nilly leadership which are all in the cards towards a better Sri Lanka and a thought which seems to be burning a hole in the mindsets of a selfish and myopic few whose keyword seems ursurpance of the Administration towards their own opportunistic gains and must not ne heeded!

It seems amusing that the present leader of the opposition and a former prime minister even suggests "that it is time for all those who love democracy should come forward and be united against the Rajapaksha Company'' which whilst being a reference to the Rajapaksha Administration comes from an individual whose dubious past not only pointed many unproven albeit seemingly credible allegations of his involvement in the infampous Batalanda massacres but has also suggested hidden agendas with the LTTE terrorists and a plethora of accusations about his tardy wheeling and dealing with all the wrong sources, the leeway he once provided Norway with which manifested itself into the LTTE regrouping from their own insecurities and whose transparencies eventualy became visible to a very discerning nation and much much more which is now history!

Sadly, political power in Sri Lanka in the reckoning of such individuals seems carte blance to be autocratic and dictatorial towards the end of their tenures and the only thing which has stood between themselves and their objectives could be atributed to the Universal Franchise of the people of Sri Lanka whose votes have eventually kept them in check and restricted their own undemocratic attempts to seal their securities at the expense of the overall security and well being of the Nation! It has been the deterrent towards a fecund dictatorship at all times wherein lies the democracy these false prophets seem to be preaching about ant the people of Sri lanka no longer have much faith in them and their track record! A fact of life!

It has been said in the famous words of the great American President Abraham Lincoln the "You can fool all the people some of the time, some of the people all the time but never all the people all the time" and all the people of Sri Lanka who have a credible knowledge of the past history of these individuals if they have any love for their beloved country should make every attempt to prevent any regrouping of these contentious individuals towards any political power within a Nation which seems to be making great progress into the future under its present leadership.
