Softening of Presidential Stance Towards The LTTE's ISGA Demands Imprudent And Norways Continued Participation In The Peace Process,Futile!

The Sri Lankan Government despite having a working majority now with the support of the CWC is not entitled to unilaterally forge ahead with what only a faction of the UPFA envisions as peace by their definition which would amount to placing the cart before the horse with no considerations to the people's mandate nor the objections of the prudent vision of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna who very correctly from a Sinhala Nation's standpoint envision the dangers of capitulating to the LTTE/TNA demand for an Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA) in its present form.

This has also been endorsed by the main oppositon party of Ranil Wickremasinghe who has emphatically stated that as long as there is disagreement on the matter of the ISGA within the rank and file of the UPFA the UNF would not support it although expressing a willingness to support the Government's bid to renew peace negotiations in circumstances of a united consensus where the UNF have adopted a prudent stance and the President seems to be thinking "Unconditional Power Sharing' with the rebels if astute interpretations by Sri Lanka's intellectual peers are correct and a grievous error on her part which she needs to rescind without delay if this is truly the case.

Since the April 2002 pull out from the Peace Process by the LTTE on the grounds that they were being sidelined by the then incumbent UNF Government of Ranil Wickremasinghe, a mere excuse realistically towards buying time and further fortifying their impure terrorist needs, things are at an impasse!. Whilst the Peace in Sri Lanka has lasted for over 2 1/2 years the attitude of the LTTE seems to have taken an about turn in an indication that they have changed their theme towards a lasting peace through negotiation now that they have a proxy within Parliament albeit a circumspect entry which was uncontested towards their legitimacy to be there in the first place! Consequently the LTTE have also taken a strong armed stance in complete disregard for the protocols involved in the Peace Accord they signed while violating the ceasefire on many occassions, resorting to political assassinations and spewing bold rhetoric about their military prowess and how unafraid they are to resume hostilities while being spared of the affirmative action which realistically and in keeping with the Laws of the Land needs to be meted out to them by the incumbent Administration unwilling to concertedly pursue the LTTE towards bringing them to justice as a group of internationally condemned terrorists with no rights to any demands short of being eliminated as a National and Regional threat where the divided opinions within the Government on the subject have suddenly demanded greater attention towards addressing prior to any accession relative to any power sharing, that too with the Tamil Community rather than with the LTTE!

Categorically the LTTE/TNA proposals for an Interim Self Governing Authority in the North and East by virtue of it being a platform for ultimate secession and the much sought after Tamil Eelam with the LTTE at its helm has been unsurprisingky rejected by both the previous and present Administration which is indeed the correct decision towards preserving Sri Lanka's Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity.That there might be a circumspect quivering by the President towards softening her resolve on this matter seems all but contentious with all due respect to her status!and would greatly endanger the Nation whose present fortifications have been augmented through collossal international support and recognition and a thing which the LTTE could hardly ursurp despite their bleatings to the contrary!

The question of resolving Tamil needs for the Tamil people however alongside the needs of the Muslims and other minorities is presently being hampered and hindered to a great extend by what can be unequivocally termed the selfish demands of the LTTE desperate in their need to survive and appear to be clutching at many straws despite all indications that their days are numbered and in this desperation seems to be pulling out all stops , some which aren't even available to them such as outrageous breaches of the signed peace and ceasefire to which there certainly would be dire consequences overall where it is hoped the LTTE realise that the proverbial 'noose around their necks 'and the dragnet surrounding them are being realistically tightened despite their bold rhetoric at times which is more often than not borne of bravado and is completely misleading to undiscerning audiences! It has become an enormous reality that the world powers including the United States of America, superpower neighbours India , Pakistan and even the United Nations have declared their fullest co-operation towards preserving the unitarity of Sri Lanka where a resolution towards a lasting peace may not necessarily be achieved by compromising with unrelenting fully armed terrorists!

This should effectively also cancel out the aspirations of the bifurcated intentions of pro - LTTE Norway from further participation in Sri Lanka's Peace Effort whose continued entry and exit from their mostly speculated and conjectured peace efforts appear only to be also of a hampering nature rather than facilitating where they have thus far accomplished precious little short of the ridicule they have invited upon themselves at their bunglings in many related situations and perhaps time appropriate for the Sri Lankan Administration to think of a viable alternative
