Sri Lanka Phobia an anxiety disorder from which David Cameron, Hugo Swire, David Milliband , Stephen Harper and others suffer.
By Charles.S.Perera
The symptom of Sri Lanka phobia which is common among the politicians in the West, is caused through  personal political ambitions. It comes from the presence of a large number of expatriates Tamils living in these Western countries. It makes the patients have a distorted view of human rights. They become blind to their own actions of violation of human rights, and war crimes. Suffering from this phobia they commit  war crimes, torture, rape, impose  sanctions and trade embargoes that kill children  as in Iraq, they kill men, and women not in their own countries but in... -Full Story-

Obituary Appreciation - Norman Dudley Rajendra Casie Chitty
D L O Mendis
These lines are penned to honour the memory of a beloved friend whose passing leaves me and countless others with a sense of immeasurable loss. “Casi’ as we knew him, will be remembered until we ourselves receive our respective calls, or ‘boarding passes’, as we sometimes joke about death. Casi wooed and won his beloved Manel when she was a brilliant public servant in the Finance ministry. They were both children of railway Station Masters, and we had this in common as my father too was an S.M. going back to the pre-independence era. When... -Full Story-

Navi Pillay must explain
George Rupesinghe  Sydney, Australia
UN Human Rights High Commissioner Navi Pillay must explain why she and the UN Secretary General are mute in the face of the judicial genocide now occurring in Egypt. An Egyptian court has sentenced 529 people to death and another 683 sentenced to a similar fate. There was no opportunity to defend themselves as the hearing only lasted a mere two days. Recent reports are that the sentences of some 400 have been commuted to lengthy terms of imprisonment. Contrast this with Pillay's position on Sri Lanka where she has criticised that... -Full Story-

Page 1 of 3-How the US created, and lost, Afghan war
By Anand Gopal
It was a typical Kabul morning. Malik Ashgar Square was already bumper-to-bumper with Corolla taxis, green police jeeps, honking minivans, and angry motorcyclists. There were boys selling phone cards and men waving wads of cash for exchange, all weaving their way around the vehicles amid exhaust fumes. At the gate of the Lycee Esteqial, one of the country-s most prestigious schools, students were kicking around a soccer ball. At the Ministry of Education, a weathered old Soviet-style building opposite the school, a line of employees spilled out onto the street. I was crossing the square, heading... -Full Story-

THE ROVING EYE-Obama-s "strategy" against "pariah" Russia
By Pepe Escobar
The Barack Obama administration seems to love the sound of unilateral sanctions in the morning. It must feel like "victory". Real, hardcore sanctions, if ever applied, would be devastating mostly for North Atlantic Treaty Organization poodles, not Moscow. Meanwhile, (energy) adults continue to do business as usual. There-s no way to understand Cold War 2.0 without a flashback to November 2010, when Vladimir Putin directly addressed German... -Full Story-

SINOGRAPH-Ukraine crisis forces Eurasian evolution
By Francesco Sisci
BEIJING - It has not happened yet, but expectations are already enormous. A massive strategic and economic shift is expected to result from Russian President Vladimir Putin-s to China in May. After decades of fruitless talks, Moscow and Beijing are now likely ready to sign a sweeping deal which will see China invest billions of dollars in Russia, with vast resources being sold in the other direction. This correspondent first saw the agreement signed 20 years ago, when Boris Yeltsin and Jiang Zemin were the presidents, and not much occurred since. However, this time things seem... -Full Story-

Putin: USA orchestrated Ukrainian crisis
Pravda
Russian President Vladimir Putin urged Kiev to establish a dialogue within the country, rather than point fingers at other countries. According to Putin, the new Kiev authorities need to take actions to equally treat the rights of those residing on other territories of Ukraine. "First of all, I mean the east and southeast. They need to establish a dialogue to find a compromise. This is what one must do. Looking for the guilty ones outside is wrong. Pies on Maidan - this is a road to the crisis. US doesn-t care about Ukraine, wants to prove it-s still in charge – Lavrov
RT
Washington-s approach to the events in Ukraine is not fueled by concerns about the fate of the crisis-torn state, but rather by the desire to prove it is still running the show worldwide, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. The way the situation in Ukraine is reported in mainstream media indicates that “unfortunately, the information machine of our Western colleagues is working at full capacity,” Lavrov said following talks with his Chilean counterpart, Heraldo Munoz, in Santiago.... -Full Story-

America’s Indian Ocean Bases, US Geneva Resolution, British way of subverting justice and Cameron’s Hypocrisy
By Bandu de Silva
“Sri Lanka’s new port built at Hambantota figures very much in this discussion. If India, Japan or South Korea would have built the port infrastructure there as they have been engaging in neighbouring Iran, no questions could have arisen for the US or India over security threat in the Indian Ocean. It is precisely because it was China that built the infrastructure that the security issues have been raised both by US and India. The latter was quick enough to establish a Consulate-General at Hambantota even before the first ship arrived in the new harbor.... -Full Story-

NORWAY PRIME MINISTER’S SPEEDY U – TURN

Sri Lankan cuisine is unique but in preparation some people waste energy either purposely or due to unawareness.

It is possible nearly all Sri Lankans consume rice and curries on daily basis, whether they live in Sri Lanka or abroad. There are quite a few Buddhist temples and Kovils in and around London. On special occasions such as on full moon day, quite a few Sri Lankans take Sil or Ata Sil. During the lunch time first the priests are offered the dana then everybody are served with dana. U.S. on wrong track to end Ukraine crisis
John M. Curtis
Before the U.S. with the best intentions makes the crisis in Ukraine unsalvageable, the White House needs to look at both sides of the problem. Faced with a pro-Western post-revolutionary government, Ukraine’s pro-Russia separatists see no hope in the current government. If the U.S., U.N. and Russia would come up with some consensus leadership in Kiev to replace 49-year-old Oleksandr Turchinov and 39-year-old Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the crisis and brewing civil war would be solved. Two popes will be canonized on Sunday: some thoughts to ponder
by Mario Perera, Kadawata
The pattern of canonizations has undergone a radical change. Probably the underlying reasoning is that of making it ‘relevant to modern times’. What we are witnessing is the elevation to the sainthood of persons who were public figures within our life time, persons whose lives were under public scrutiny at least since their elevation to the post they held until their deaths. That such persons were without sin in the sense of the Church’s catechism could perhaps be defended. However it would seem far fetched to judge them as being ‘perfect’ meaning ‘without fault’. Existential fears of Buddhists in embattled Burma and Buddhist nations
Shenali D Waduge
Why has it become customary to view affairs only from the lens of Christian West nations and through their communication channels? If the world can ask ‘why is the world ignoring Myanmar’s Rohingyas’ why can’t the world ask ‘what are the fears of the Buddhists of Burma?”. When the world does not ask this all important question but goes on an international campaign to denigrate the Buddhists of Burma it has to be with sinister intentions which have nothing to do with Rohingyas. With India currently in the throes of a General Election with a probable result likely to have a far reaching impact on India's relations with the rest of the world particularly Sri Lanka it is in our interest in Sri Lanka to have as great an understanding of India as possible particularly its history, politics and most importantly the growing threats directed towards the Break - up of India.  The break - up of either India or Sri Lanka would undoubtedly have adverse consequences on the other leading to violent convulsions of society and chain reaction... -Full Story-

In Sri Lanka, we celebrate Sinhala & Tamil New Year NOT Sinhala & Hindu New Year
 Shenali D Waduge
Is the Christian dominated press, often accused of functioning as a 5th column, attempting to create new nomenclatures or simply upto usual mischief as directed by their sponsors in attempting to throw a new phrase to what has been traditionally used? There is no Sinhala-Hindu New Year, in Sri Lanka we celebrate the Sinhala-Tamil New Year. Sinhalese and Tamil are 2 ethnic groups. The Sinhalese were all Buddhists and the Tamils where all Hindus. Sinhalese and Tamils were either Buddhists or Hindus. There was no requirement to call people Sinhalese Buddhists or Tamil Hindus. Every Sinhalese... -Full Story-

"Philosophical Kovil", a Spiritual landmark in Lanka
By P K Balachandran
There is a new landmark in Colombo-s spiritual landscape — a Thatthuva Kovil or a Philosophical temple — which is conceptually different from the other Hindu temples in Sri Lanka. Conceived and executed by Kambavarithi Jeyaraj, a Jaffna Tamil, with financial help from former Indian Minister S Jagathrakshakan, Thatthuva Kovil is based on the revolutionary concept underlying Avudayar Kovil in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu built by the saint-poet Manikkavasagar.... -Full Story-

Many foreigners understand Western media demonize Russia
Pravda
Many European media outlets, following well-known politicians, experts and journalists, report on the polls, the results of which seem deplorable for Ukraine, the U.S. and EU. It appears that in spite of the powerful, and, once can say, fierce propaganda, many Europeans consider the criticism of Russia inadequate. Moreover, they believe that the actions of their own administration (that, unlike the Russian leader, has been losing ratings) are wrong, short-sighted and frankly dangerous.... -Full Story-

It is obvious that Baird has joined his neo con gang to force Sri Lanka to agree to their witch-hunt. He tells us that there is no 'principles of freedom, democracy and respect for human dignity' in Sri Lanka and for that reason Canada had stopped their stipend to reprimand Sri Lanka. Navi Pillay: US Imperial Tool
By Stephen Lendman
On April 14, her latest report looked like earlier ones. She lies for power. She condemned "rampant use of torture in detention in Syria." She duplicitously blames Assad largely. More on what she said below. Syria condemned earlier fabricated torture reports. On January 22, its Justice Ministry dismissed a UK Carter-Ruck law firm politicized report. It called it baseless. It lacked "objectivity and professionalism," it said. Carter-Ruck is linked to Syrian opposition groups. Its report was malicious propaganda. It buried truth. It had no credibility whatever. Its aim was discrediting Syria. It tried subverting peaceful conflict resolution... -Full Story-

GOSL must initiate Website & Hotline to report LTTE supporters & funding details
Shenali D Waduge
In what has sent shockwaves across the world, LTTE Diaspora & supporters both local and international are now a worried lot. Legally, they are cornered. Their propaganda machinery has now been checkmated with a UN Security Council Resolution that is both mandatory and binding. With the declaration of LTTE and 16 LTTE front banned and blacklisting of 424 individuals the momentum to rope in the rest of the beneficiaries of LTTE terror over 3 decades should be the next course of action the GOSL must take. Sri Lankans must invite and felicitate Zamir Akram, head of Pakistan delegation to UNHRC
Shenali D Waduge
When a country not just votes for Sri Lanka against the tides but goes the extra mile to eloquently deliver a speech giving reasons why they are voting against the US sponsored Resolution, that country and in particular the head of that delegation needs to be thanked and felicitated far before thanking nations that abstained for their own self-serving compulsions. Sri Lankans listened with admiration while Mr. Zamir Akram showed how Pakistan had done its homework to highlight reasons that the Resolution depicted duplicity, bias and double standards and Pakistan gave the punch that should have... -Full Story-

Will Geneva Vote mean a paradigm shift in India’s neighbourhood policy?
By Bandu de Silva
There has been no overall response in Sri Lanka to India’s stand this time over the voting on the US sponsored Draft Resolution (D/R) at UNHRC session in Geneva despite President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s spontaneous response to release the Indian fishermen in custody and a thank you letter since despatched to the Indian Prime Minister.  There have been much discussion on what brought about India’s change of mind at the last moment to abstain from voting after making a powerful explanation of reasons why the Draft was not acceptable to India because of its intrusive nature.... -Full Story-

What the UNHRC Resolution Tells Me:We have to be a self reliant economy to withstand our enemies
By Garvin Karunaratne, Former Government Agent, Matara District,
When the dust of the storm created by the Superpowers at Geneva settles down it is necessary to take stock of our strengths and weaknesses and to decide what we should do. Let us not forget that we are a sovereign country. We have to go it alone and be strong to withstand problems created by our enemies. This time the enemies are the USA and the UK. They will be up to their googly tricks to win us over by the offer of some minuscule Aid, and eventually, in a... -Full Story-

Sri Lankans have every reason to be proud at their cricketers’ 2014 T20 win in Dhaka
Asada M Erpini
Sri Lanka’s win in the 2014 T20 World Cup is an apt response to the individuals, the groups and the countries that view the term Sri Lanka as being synonymous with war crimes, deprivation of human rights, lack of democracy, discrimination of Tamils and other minorities and the ‘dictatorship’ of one family in the administrative machinery. Some may even say that the victory is sweet revenge for the concocted allegations against the island nation that steal the limelight at the annual UNHCR sessions in Geneva, election platforms of nearly every political group in Tamil Nadu and... -Full Story-

Only one out of six Americans can find Ukraine on a map,The less Americans know about Ukraine-s location, the more they want U.S. to intervene

On March 28-31, 2014, we asked a national sample of 2,066 Americans (fielded via Survey Sampling International Inc. (SSI), what action they wanted the U.S. to take in Ukraine, but with a twist: In addition to measuring standard demographic characteristics and general foreign policy attitudes, we also asked our survey respondents to locate Ukraine on a map as part of a larger, ongoing project to study foreign policy knowledge. We wanted to see where Americans think Ukraine is and to learn if this knowledge (or lack thereof) is related to... -Full Story-

Will the IMF Bailout Turn Ukraine Into Another Greece?
Alec Luhn - The Nation
When the International Monetary Fund announced a tentative loan agreement with Ukraine last month, the move was widely acclaimed as vital to saving the country-s struggling economy. Headlines trumpeted the decision to “help” Ukraine with a $14-18 billion “financial lifeline.” In Italy later that day, President Barack Obama called the deal a “major step forward” that will “meet the needs of Ukrainian people over the long term.” But the news headlines and political statements only tell half the story: The IMF loan comes with demands for “economic reforms,” i.e. austerity measures, that will be... -Full Story-

The objective was to totally eliminate any ideology associated with Nazism and to ensure Germany would never destroy European peace. Denazification of Germany began in 1946 and ended only in 1958. REVERSE DISCRIMINATION FOR SINHALESE : RECIPROCATION BY TAMILS
Shenali D Waduge
At this important juncture of Sri Lanka’s post-independent history there are some factors that need to be reminded to all citizens of Sri Lanka. Some of these hometruths may not be palatable to people but these need to be said and recorded.  Reverse Discrimination : Empathy towards Sinhalese Let us for a change start off by looking at things from the lens of the Sinhalese, taking to consideration the lack of recognition for the grievances of the Sinhalese.  Sinhala Grievances – past and present Never have people stopped to wonder what it would have been for... -Full Story-

Death anniversary of Dr. C.A. Hewawitharana-Journalist’s intuition foretold a tragedy
By Janaka Perera
April 3, 2014 marks the 85th death anniversary of Dr. Charles Alwis Hewawitharana who was the first Sinhala Buddhist to become a Doctor of Medicine (MD – Medicinae Doctor) in the British Colonial era after graduating from medical colleges in England and Scotland. He was also a brother of Buddhist revivalist Anagarika Dharmapala (formerly David Hewawitharana).    This article however is not so much about Dr. Hewawitharana’s career and services but a journalist’s intuition that foretold the doctor’s tragic death.  Although journalists are sometimes accused of callousness by trying to be first with the news, it... -Full Story-

Disappearance of MH 370 flight: The trillion dollar question to the US and its intelligence services
Matthias Chang is a prominent Malaysian barrister and author who served as Political Secretary to the fourth prime minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
Why no questions were asked whether the flight path of MH 370 (if as alleged it crashed in the Indian Ocean), was within the geographical parameters of the Intelligence capabilities of Diego Garcia? Why were no planes deployed from Diego Garcia to intercept the “Unidentified” plane which obviously would pose a threat to the Diego Gracia military base?... -Full Story-

Ukrainians Get IMF’s Bitter Medicine
By Robert Parry
Exclusive: Though lacking legitimacy from national elections, Ukraine-s coup regime has approved a harsh IMF austerity plan that hits Ukraine’s “99 percent” the hardest and asks little from the country’s “1 percent,” including the corrupt “oligarchs,” reports Robert Parry. It-s a safe bet that most of the Ukrainians who flooded Maidan Square in Kiev in February did not do so because they wanted the International Monetary Fund to make their lives even more miserable by slashing subsidies for heat, gutting pensions and devaluing the currency to make everyday goods more expensive.... -Full Story-

The IMF “Rescue Package”: Western Looting of Ukraine Has Begun
By Dr. Paul Craig Roberts
It is now apparent that the “Maiden protests” in Kiev were in actuality a Washington organized coup against the elected democratic government. The purpose of the coup is to put NATO military bases on Ukraine’s border with Russia and to impose an IMF austerity program that serves as cover for Western financial interests to loot the country. The sincere idealistic protesters who took to the streets without being paid were the gullible dupes of the plot to destroy their country.... -Full Story-

UNHRC turns blind eye to attacks on Buddhist Temples in South Korea
by Shenali D. Waduge
South Korea voted against Sri Lanka on March 27 at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva in support of a US Resolution calling for an international inquiry to be undertaken by the Office of the High Commissioner on alleged Human Rights violations by Sri Lanka. In taking this path South Korea showed itself as the ONLY Asian nation to have aligned with the Christian West bloc of nations alongside nations scared of the West, to vote against Sri Lanka. All other Asian countries either voted against the Resolution e.g. China, Pakistan, Vietnam, Maldives,... -Full Story-

Deception of Tamil Theoretical and Theatrical Politics
Kanthar Balanathan, Melbourne, Australia April 2014
Dawn of Partisan Commotion The political dominion of the new born baby called “Ceylon” saw the birth of a racial Tamil political party founded by the Malaysian born SJV Chelvanayagam (SJVC) on the 18th December 1949. The party was called “Federal Party”, however, carrying a different quasi haphazard meaning in Tamil as ITAK, to have bearing in the minds of the Tamils. Would the reason be that SJVC had a tug-of-war with GG Ponnambalam (GGP) in the ministerial portfolio allocation or another country was in the background programming Tamil elite politicians to create... -Full Story-

Dangerous effects of Glyphosate
Akila Weerasekera
Recently Sri Lankan scientists and medical professionals have written many articles regarding the GOSL’s contemplation of banning the herbicide Roundup (Monsanto). They have continued to ignore the studies eliciting the dangerous effects of Roundup and advocate the use of agrochemicals for farming. Glyphosate, Roundup’s active ingredient, is the most widely used herbicide in many countries.  Until now, most health studies have focused on the safety of glyphosate, rather than the mixture of ingredients found in Roundup. But according to a new study, scientists found that Roundup’s inert ingredients amplified the toxic effect on human cells even at concentrations much... -Full Story-

Who would say adding this and that quickly and cook on full fire is cooking?
Dr Hector Perera         London
Adding this and that without any explanation and heating on fire is not real cooking to be shown on British Television. I have a great respect for British TV cooking programmes because some of them really educate the viewers. Some chefs, purposely set fire to the cooking pan and dance around jabbering and muttering something nonsense then keep on adding more ingredients for no reason. In a way this is no better than devil dancing in Sri Lanka. They are really entertaining and meaningful. The devil dancers set fire to their torch to get... -Full Story-

Prepared by Yuri Kondratyev  Courtesy Pravda.Ru
Crimea has become part of Russia de facto and de jure. What are the political and economic consequences of this decision? The resistance of Russian-speaking residents to the self-proclaimed authorities is growing in the south-eastern Ukraine. Could they follow the example of the Crimeans? Leonid Polyakov, Russian political scientist, Head of General Political HSE assessed the situation in a live broadcast of Pravda.Ru. The agreement on the reunification of Crimea and the Russian Federation was signed a day before the broadcast. Sevastopol was included as a separate entity. This is fair, because... -Full Story-

Keep on cracking jokes, Ukraine!
Courtesy Pravda
April 1 is a day for jokes and fun. In this article, we wanted to recollect best jokes of recent times that deserve to be remembered for ever and ever. The yellow jersey of the leader belongs to U.S. Secretary John Kerry, who said:  "You just don't in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pre-text." NATO Secretary General Rasmussen comes next, who in the days of the 15th anniversary of the NATO bombing of the capital of Yugoslavia called Russia's "military invasion" of Ukraine the biggest threat... -Full Story-

Yanukovych to Join Putin Administration
The St. Petersburg Times
Published: April 2, 2014 MOSCOW — Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has accepted a position in President Vladimir Putin-s administration as an adviser on the country-s affairs with Ukraine, according to a source close to the Kremlin. The official-s surprise announcement comes at the height of tensions between Russia and Ukraine over Russia-s recent annexation of the Crimean peninsula last month. “We need to understand how the bandits who seized power in Kiev think,” the source said Monday. “We thought Viktor Fyodorovich [Yanukovych] could give us insight about how to deal with this new crowd.”... -Full Story-
