Suicide Bombers of the LTTE and Posttraumatic Phenomenon
Dr Ruwan M Jayatunge M.D
There’s a hole in the world tonight. There’s a Cloud of fear and sorrow. There’s a hole in the world tonight. Don’t let there be a hole in the world tomorrow. Eagles  Suicide attack is an ancient practice with a modern history. The Mahabharata an ancient epic describes suicide warfare. Islamic Order of Assassins (hashashin) during the early Crusader times was well-known examples. The concept of “terror” as systematic use of violence to attain political ends was first codified by Maximilien Robespierre during the French Revolution. USA Fears Loss of Sri Lanka
by John Stanton
The battle lines were drawn for January 26, 2010. The battle was not between Rajapaksa and Fonseka, but between Sri Lanka and the US. On May 18, 2009, Sri Lanka won a historic proxy war on the banks of the Nanthikadal lagoon, defeating the scourge of terrorism [LTTE] and the threat of neocolonialism. Election day was crucial – Sri Lankans had to defeat the neocolonialist if they were to protect their victory at Nanthikadal. With that in mind, it’s no wonder that Sri Lankan Ambassador Tamara Kunanayakam (Cuba and Venezuela) urged Sri Lankans to study Latin... -Full Story-

War crimes committed by USA and UK
Ben Silva
Attention of Mr Ban Ki Moon Secretary General, UN War crimes committed by USA and UK Ben Silva  Wikileaks have clearly indicated the possibility of war crimes committed by USA and UK. It is now recognized and well known that the invasion of Iraq was illegal and was carried out under false pretexts. Over a mullion civilians have been killed unlawfully and illegally in Iraq. Surely, the priority should be an investigation of the illegal war rather than the war that defeated the terrorists who killed thousands and threatened the sovereignty of Sri Lanka. PEACE DIDN'T COME SO EASY - WHEN PEACE IS THERE DONT TAKE IT EASY
Ranjit Wickremeratne
Every Sri Lankan should keep remembering the day we ushered peace in our beloved homeland. It was a day of celebrations for all of us but not for those heros who sacrificed their lives to save our land. Our own dirty political leaders in the past played with our innocent lives for thirty long years and allowed those barbaric terrorists to go on with their killing spree and take over more than half of our country inch by inch to have their own dreamland. JR,RANIL,CHANDRIKA,PREMADASA were the traitors who should be in Hague for war crimes not the heros... -Full Story-

Robert Blake is busy undermining Kyrgyztan
Ajit Randeniya
It is for very good reasons that Robert Blake who ‘underachieved’ in terms of neocon expectations in Sri Lanka was quickly appointed Assistant Secretary in the US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs: the region involving Afghanistan and Central Asia that is crucial to the illegal war in Afghanistan needed a trusted neocon operator and there aren’t many left these days at the State Department. They found their man in Robert Blake.  The major handicap for the neocon operations in Afghanistan is the problem of a safe route for supplies to the troops pillaging... -Full Story-

Leonardo da Vinci’s Art in a Psychoanalytic Perspective
Dr Ruwan M Jayatunge

India have Everest to climb - Jayawardene does one better than Bradman; Sangakkara scores 219

Colombo: Kumar Sangakkara posted a double hundred, while Mahela Jayawardene came within 26 runs of doing the same. Four Indians, too, returned three-figure performances. Only, their CVs didn’t get enhanced. Patriotism
By Garvin Karunaratne, Ph.D.
Patriotism is something that is abounding in the United States of America. The people stand united and with one force are tacking the problems they face. In California where we landed in May, the people were supportive of the Government with one voice. Touring through the rural hinterland of Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Mississipi, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, finally arriving at California it is clear that the people are facing the recession with one voice. They are not worried about who was responsible; instead they are thinking of what can be done.  The USA... -Full Story-

In August 1964, the CIA faked an incident during which they loaded up a boat with weapons, floated it off the coast of central Vietnam and shot it up. Then they brought in the American press and declared to America and the world that a fire fight had taken place during which North Vietnamese torpedo boats had attacked an American warship in the Gulf of Tonkin. This ‘incident’ became the ‘conclusive proof of North Vietnam’s aggression’ and the premise for the aerial bombing of Vietnam; an invasion that took three million Vietnamese lives!  A similar ‘master illusion’... -Full Story-

Why do people commit suicide? Are they really fed up with their life or the circumstances around them compel them to do so? According to various psycho-analysts suicide is nothing but an extempore reaction of some emotional disturbance resulting by some unexpected failure or some irreparable loss. Most of the time a feeling of helplessness in response to some injustice also forces a man to deprive himself of his life; surely the most precious thing one has. Dear friends  When it comes for voting either in state or national level, majority members of the Sri Lankan community in Australia used to select Australian Greens as the first or the second preference.   However, it is the time to think about your choice in the coming federal election.  Mr Bob Brown and the Australian Greens Party have been blindly and pathetically behaved  against Sri Lanka in the national issue, and always supported Tamil diaspora sympathtic to LTTE, against Sri Lanka.      A few examples to mention:  (1)  Sydney Tamils support for Bob Browns fund raiser on 16... -Full Story-

Development needs of Sri Lanka - Lessons we can learn from other countries
Gumperaliya
Now that the President has reiterated the need to Develop the country, it is important to understand the term “Development”. Is development the improvement of the material status of the people or is it more than that.   In USA unbridled Capitalism has held sway for a long time. It has not improved the Quality of Life for a large mass of the people.  In the last 10-20 years the gap between the rich and the poor has become very wide in USA. The Corporations in USA give only 12 days vacation to a person for a year, and... -Full Story-

Teach cooking to school children
Dr Hector Perera
I have seen lots of cooking programmes by leading and reputed cooks but none of them try to teach cooking to children. Am I correct? Nearly every Saturday morning, I see lots of new cooks in the TV. But none of them help the children to learn, they are far from kids understanding. The kitchens are full of steam and smell and one of the cooks said, “smell is everything” sure but you don’t have wear them as an aftershave? The smell is all over, their hair, hands, face and clothes then deposit on any near... -Full Story-

The human rights advisory panel appointed by U.N Secretary General is the toughest challenge; the Sri Lanka Government has to face since the end of the war. Though it is too early to forecast the outcome of this standoff between UNSG and Sri Lanka government, there is no doubt that this imprudent step taken by the UNSG could bring dire consequences to our country if allowed to take place.    It is evident that the decision of the UNSG is sponsored by the West and the Tamil Diaspora. Portrayal of Sri Lankan Government Using Emergency Laws Against Ex Army Chief A Distortion Of Facts!
LankaWeb Weekly Editorial
16 July 2010 In a ill conceived news bulletin on a local pro communist website it has been reported that President Mahinda Rajapakse’s Government has invoked  draconian emergency regulations to lay serious criminal charges against the defeated president candidate, ex-Army Commander Gen. Sarath Fonseka which seems not only a distorted misrepresentation of facts but the furthest from the truth!   While the democratic tolerance which permitted the incarcerated  Ex General to present his nomination let alone running for presidential office by itself is a debatable issue due to the criminal nature of the charges against him... -Full Story-

AMERICA WORKS FROM IMPROVISED SHEDS: A Lesson on How we have to act fast to win the War on Cost of Living
By Garvin Karunaratne, Ph.D.

Today our plan to bring down the Cost of Living needs brand new shops to house the Coop and CWE Outlets.  I was told that I could clear my RV at the Mid Atlantic Terminal (the Docks) on Broening Highway and when I phoned in I was told that I had to get an Escort to the Docks and the escort was to be met at another office at Broening Highway.... -Full Story-

Scarcely a day passes without the great and the good exhorting the recalcitrant Sri Lankans to accept the UN Panel and co-operate with it. Rarely has a small nation been showered with so much unsolicited gratuitous advice by so many - perhaps a few in their naivety, but most in an impudent display of hypocrisy and arrogance. Curiously, some including governments whose ambassadors[1], some time ago, would not see “a bit of a difference, even if 10 floors out of the 38 floors of the UN building in New York were lost”, seemed to... -Full Story-

Ban Ki Moons as the UN Secretary General should not act on the dictates of a few member States, as he takes authority from all member States.

Now we know who were behind Ban Ki Moons ‘ move against Sri Lanka to appoint a  three-man Panel to advise him  whether there had been  violation of human rights by the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka in the last phase of its military operations against the terrorists. Germany, UK, France, USA, Italy, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Romania, Norway and EU are obviously the prime movers of the idea of a Panel to Ban Ki Moon.  These same countries  voted against the  resolution submitted by  Sri Lanka at the Human  Rights Council in Geneva on the 27 May,... -Full Story-

Ban Ki Lands on Moon to Scrutinize Sri Lanka’s War Crimes
Asoka Perera, PhD Toronto Canada
The appointment of three member UN panel by Secretary General of United Nations instantly reminded me the similar panel appointed by former Secretary General Kofi Anan to investigate the possession of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq by UN security council just after the 9/11 incident in USA. As a measure of countering global terrorism, UN Security Council was supported by member states to carry out the mission led by US and UK. Panel returned after fact finding mission in Iraq empty handed, but the hidden agenda of US and UK in demolishing Iraq... -Full Story-

Ban Ki Moon ensure LTTE atrocities are investigated first
Shenali Waduge
If throughout thirty years the UN Secretary General is clueless of what has been happening in a member country called Sri Lanka, it may be best that he first ask his expert panel to investigate & apprise him of all LTTE atrocities first.  Given that the LTTE is a terrorist organization, banned in all the major countries of the world & listed in the UN list of shame, it is only fair that the UN Secretary General is fully aware of all of the atrocities committed by the LTTE. According to the media, he is seriously considering launching such an inquiry by his own personal decision. For Mr. Ban to act without express U.N. Security Council authorization, however, would far exceed his legitimate authority. It would create a troubling... -Full Story-

Replacing colonialism today is neo-colonialism & its offspring economic liberalism. Facilitating modern forms of “interventions” upon sovereign nations is the United Nations whose laws, protocols, conventions etc have been designed to legalize & necessitate these actions. To execute these pogroms are terminologies like “responsibility to protect” ‘human rights”, “press freedom” & even “terrorism” which all eventually leads to approval for foreign presence & eventually enable these states to have their country “looted” of its natural resources. Further strangulating these nations are internationally “approved” institutes like the World Bank, IMF with their “structural adjustment programs” wherein countries are... -Full Story-

Mr. Solheim, you cannot hide behind your cunning foxy smile
Malin Abeyatunge
On March 12, 2000, I wrote a small letter to Sunday Observer titled, “SCREEN PEACE TALK FACILITATORS” which may be the first letter by an ordinary citizen against Norway peace facilitator now known as infamous Eric Solheim. I reproduce herein this letter. “How soon we forget our enemies? A few years back Norway and the other Scandinavian countries became “Safe Haven’ for the LTTE sympathizers.. They smuggled themselves into those countries, obtained refugee status and started their terror campaign in those countries including Norway promoting the Eelam Cry and tarnishing the good image of Sri Lanka. How honey kills bacteria
The FASEB Journal.
With the rise in prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, honey is increasingly valued for its antibacterial activity. To characterize all bactericidal factors in a medical-grade honey, we used a novel approach of successive neutralization of individual honey bactericidal factors. All bacteria tested, including Bacillus subtilis, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, extended-spectrum β-lactamase producing Escherichia coli, ciprofloxacin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, were killed by 10–20% (v/v) honey, whereas 40% (v/v) of a honey-equivalent sugar solution was required for similar activity. Honey accumulated up to 5.62 ± 0.54 mM H2O2 and contained 0.25 ± 0.01 mM methylglyoxal (MGO). After... -Full Story-

‘War crimes’ galore!
Gamini Gunawardane -Courtesy The Island
Ban- Ki- moon, instead of dissipating his energies chasing shadows of elusive evidence of non-existent ‘war crimes’ apparently based on some spurious and hearsay statement of a self -seeking, mentally disturbed General who is blinded by hatred and frustration and probably suffering from PTSD, imagined to have been committed on the penultimate days of the 30-year-old conflict between some people who took up arms against a lawfully established government, has at hand, if he is so keen, a more productive area to investigate. Why confine his investigation only to last days at the end... -Full Story-

SRI LANKA: FROM WAR TO RECONCILIATION
By Jaliya Wickramasuriya, Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States
Just one year ago, Sri Lanka prevailed in its decades-long war on terrorism, a victory that promises an era of reconciliation and prosperity in my country. Over the past month, senior U.S. officials have praised Sri Lanka’s journey from war to peace. White House advisers visiting Colombo expressed President Obama’s admiration for the Sri Lanka’s defeat of terrorism. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton noted Sri Lanka’s successful rebuilding efforts. Most important, the secretary endorsed Sri Lanka’s Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission, an independent panel tasked with the authority... -Full Story-

J.C. Weliamune needs to be brought to book, urgently
Ajit Randeniya
The term ‘fallacy’ in philosophy refers to misconceptions resulting from incorrect reasoning in argumentation: for example, an argument based on assertions that presuppose issues that have not been accepted by all the people involved in the debate is referred to as logical fallacy ‘of many questions’ (Latin: plurium interrogationum), distinct from the other major fallacy of ‘question begging’.  The above elucidation is needed to fully evaluate the attempts of the rogue who symbolises financial and intellectual dishonesty in Sri Lankan soceity, J.C. Now with the final appointment of a Committee by its Secretary General under the pressure from these powers isn’t it clear that the need for such organization has become more crucial.
