Time to counter misinformation campaign effectively
S. Akurugoda.
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka addressing the mass rally at the Parliament grounds called upon to appoint a Presidential Commission to probe the activities of the LTTE and its shocking caches of sophisticated arms and ammunition. During the humanitarian operation and thereafter, the Security Forces exposed the magnitude of the LTTE's underground arsenal and said to have in the process of further investigation to gather proof of evidence to probe the link between the outfit and its local and foreign promoters. As the Prime Minister quite correctly identified time has come for all those who are genuinely... -Full Story-

The British Times tabloid is sinking deeper in its mire of lies
Ajit Randeniya
Following the failure of the lie-based "20000 civilian casualties in Sri Lanka" campaign to produce the impact they hoped for, the Murdoch-owned Times has now sunk even deeper in the foul smelling mire they created. In an apparent attempt to ‘explain' their lie, they posted on their website (on 30 May), two of the all-revealing (not!) photographs they boasted about - with a voice-over by the foreign editor- and an article by a woman named Catherine Phillp; the article contains an attempted explanation of the very creative accounting process they undertook to arrive at this magical figure... -Full Story-

WHY ? A Letter to Swiss Ambassador
Ganesha David
Dear Sir You are living in Sri Lanka. Did it really look to you that our Government went about shooting people. There may have been people caught in between but are you so backward not to recognize the difference between sentiment and intent ? Is it humanly possible for a Government to think they can cold-bloodedly kill people in plain view and get away. What is this persecution? The ending of this war is the best thing that happened to Sri Lanka and the region per se. Why are you hell bent on destroying the good that... -Full Story-

A Pact with the Devil himself
Bandula Kothalawala London N7
British diplomats, licking their self-inflicted wounds from the 11th Special Session of the UN Human Rights Council on Sri Lanka, must have felt a tremendous sense of relief to learn that a pack of hyenas from the British media have already pounced on their elusive quarry. The Times, after detailed research backed by experts, ably assisted by the BBC and Channel 4, supported by human rights groups, has finally arrived at the true figure of civilian casualties in the war in Sri Lanka. Based on "satellite imagery" and "UN internal documents", it now says... -Full Story-

ACCUSATIONS AGAINST SRI LANKA ON CIVILIAN DEATHS: DELIBERATE & MISCHIEVOUS-MILITARY NECESSITY TO ERADICATE TERRORISM
By Dr.Levins T.C.Rajaratnam*
The Universal Declaration on Human Rights is not limited in scope to ensuring the observance of human rights by Governments alone. The Declaration has a far wider purpose: the observance of human rights by all governmental and non-governmental alike. Article 3 of the Universal Declaration, which requires that everyone has the right to life; and the provisions of article 30 of the Declaration prescribes that: "Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction... -Full Story-

MAVIL ARU TO SWAT VALLEY AND NEXT ?
Piyal Samarakone
We set the example for others to follow although it's not palatable for the West. But the truth remains, as the way it should remain, the double standard and insecure West not willing to accept, simple because preface is from a tiny Buddhist nation. Our sincere believe Pakistan will come out victorious just like us by defeating Taliban. However falling prey to west's hidden agenda means Pakistan's future become very bleak. “To care for him who has borne the battle and for his widows and orphans”.
Lalin Fernando Kalubowila, Dehiwala 10350 Sri Lanka
1. Introduction The contract between the soldier and the state is unique. It is ‘You must do your duty even at the cost of your life. If you should die in doing your duty the state will look after your wife and children’. Despite this in 1983 when 13 soldiers were killed in Jaffna, the Defence Ministry and the Army did not know how, when and where to bury them. What followed is history. The conflict has left about 30,000 troops dead, (6000 in the last 2.5 years) double that wounded (29,000... -Full Story-

All this is fleeting
THOMAS A. MARKSThe Courtesy Kathmandu Post
History and geography have left Nepal a very imperfect state in search of a nation. As Sri Lanka has been given a second chance, Nepal has been given an opportunity to become a nation-state When a victorious general was granted a "Triumph" in ancient Rome -- a parade through the streets -- the sources claim a man rode behind him in his chariot with the specific job of whispering, "All this is fleeting." So it must seem with Prachanda and his Maoists. Indeed, "Fierce One" seemed so spooked by ongoing events in... -Full Story-

Prabhakaran did not use his parents as a human shield- Northern Tamils
Government Information Department
As power struggles wage between factions of the LTTE overseas with Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP attempting to grab the leadership of the now defunct LTTE, Tamils living in the Northern part of Sri Lanka are vehemently opposed to any presence of a renewed LTTE terror or democratic outfit again ,reports reaching Colombo from Jaffna stated. Navy Pillay’s Charge Sheet against Sri Lanka and the hypocrisy of the West.
By Charles.S.Perera
The war in Iraq and Afghanistan continues without an end in view. America and the West are apprehensive of another attack by the Al Quaida terrorists, without any knowledge of which Western Capital would be their next target .  In Afghanistan the Western high power nations with supposed to be well experienced Armed Forces, with most modern military weapons and enemy detection equipment are sacrificing their own soldiers and killing innocent civilians in erratic bombardments by their specialised war pilots.  But the not so specialised Armed Forces of the Government of Sri Lanka have eliminated a... -Full Story-

The spiritual dimension of Ealam or the watering of the unholy with the holy
By Mario Perera, Kadawata
It was Anton Balasingham who bore the tag of ‘LTTE theoretician'. What that meant, in the final analysis was that he was a glorified spokesman of the terrorists. He was called Dr.A.B, although we know he did not have a doctorate. Even if he did... so what ? In the world of today when titles are cheaper by the buckets, what matters is the quality of the holder and not of the label. We know that Dr.Colvin R.D de Silva refused the title ‘Queens Counsel'. That did not diminish his stature, rather the contrary. Balasingham... -Full Story-

It is time to declare war on the spies using UN cover: Bhune, Weiss and Castellano
Ajit Randeniya
The war is not over yet; there are few other enemies to fight! It is becoming obvious-by-the-day that the so-called UN representatives in Sri Lanka, Neil Bhune Gordon Weiss and ICRC's Paul Castellano are not UN employees at all. They may be getting paid by the UN (yes, those fat UN salaries), but they are really serving the cabals that run the European and US governments, and are trying to implement their "Protocols" using UN cover., Their current campaign of passing on information to Western media shows that they have launched a subterranean attack against the Sri... -Full Story-

Prof Rajiva Wijesinha  Secretary General  Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process
28 May 2009 The special session on Sri Lanka has come and gone, though interested parties such as the Dutch Foreign Minister seem determined to continue on an adversarial path. Nothing can be done however about those with political agendas, and though it is depressing to see such agendas asserted with self-righteous sanctimoniousness, the world does not really take seriously such posturings on the part of politicians. The Odd Group -Tamil Diaspora

From the recent events and from the media, what we can surmise without any kind of doubt is that the group highly distressed by the demise of the LTTE is the group brandishing themselves as Tamil diaspora (There are many other ethnic group live in many Western countries but any hardly care to call themselves diaspora or any body else call them diaspora. FAILED EELAM TO TRANS-STATE NATION:A Potential Clash between Nation and States?
By Shelton A. Gunaratne©2009
Tamil immigrant communities and the diaspora, spurred by the Tiger activists who have established a complex network of associations as fronts for "tax" collection and promotion of Tamil nationalism, appears to be now focusing their attention on setting up a trans-state nation, something akin to a worldwide Tamil Nadu, a far bigger Eelam project encompassing some 73 million Tamils (including 62.4 million in Tamil Nadu). The first test of this putative trans-state nation appears to have been the series of large-scale demonstrations staged worldwide to protest the "genocide" of Tamils in Sri Lanka. The... -Full Story-

The three decade history of terrorism in Sri Lanka is not only a history of so much bungling by so many elected leaders of the country, but also a history of how so many Western governments, international organisations and NGOs were fooled for so long by LTTE. Hon. Des Brwone, M.P. British Parliament London, U.K.   Dear Sir:   I am writing to you regarding your discussion on Sri Lanka on the BBC programme Hardtalk dated May 25,2009. I noticed that you still consider yourself as Britain's "special envoy to Sri Lanka" even though that attempt by the British government to foist you on Sri Lanka to interfere and dictate was rejected back in February 2009. Perhaps you and the British government feel that it is your entitlement, unfortunately Sri Lanka does not subscribe to that view. You had no answer to the... -Full Story-

Everywhere there were sounds of victory, celebrations, cheering and congratulatory messages from one end to another. That person is Rohitha Bogollagama who fought with the International Community justifying the position of Sri Lanka as an independent country with the right to protect its territorial integrity and paved way for Sri Lanka to be victorious. The Editor Daily Telegraph London, U.K. Dear Sir: I have just read the latest report dated May 26, 2009 by D. Nelson from Trincomalee, Sri Lanka where he now quotes un-named aid officials, human rights campaigners and politicians accusing the Sri Lankan government of "ethnic cleansing". His reports are getting more hysterical, unsubstantiated and ignorant. His report clearly indicates that he does not have any idea of Sri Lanka and is merely plugging the propaganda of the LTTE and their supporters in Sri Lanka. Anti-Sri Lanka Proposal by Israel at WHO defeated - 'Pot calling kettle black'
Dr.P.A.Samaraweera
Last week at the 62nd General Assemly of the World Health Organisation Israel had brought forward a proposal calling for the UN and WHO to send a high profile team to investigate into Human Rights violations by the Sri Lankan government under the pretext of launching war on terrorism. This had been defeated by the strong support given to Sri Lanka by Russia, China, Japan and others. THE CAKE AND THE NUKES

Now, when I am a grown up man, I hear the ‘grandpa' crying, "Be vigilant, the terrorists might run away with your nuclear program." Terrorists are not educated, in the sense they do not have a philosophy to defend, They do not differentiate between good and bad. They have one object in mind and pursue it like a blinkered horse.   A university education by itself does not qualify one to be accepted as educated. There are certain social norms in any culture that have to be respected. One who goes outside those norms is an ignoramus who attempts to seek out a certain egocentric ideal. Many Tamils around the world consider LTTE as their representative and at the same time many Tamils loath them as terrorists. TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN.
By Devinda Fernando
Brothers and Sisters, let us take a moment to bow our heads in honor of those True Sons of Sri Lanka who cannot be with us today in what we acknowledge as our greatest moment as a Nation.  For as we celebrate today, and each day onwards, we remember this as the day that Tyranny lays defeated.  Therefore, we must take a pause to remember the ones to whom the credit should truly go.   For the glory does not belong to the politicians nor to ordinary people like you or I.  The glory belongs to those... -Full Story-

International Community and UN accusing Sri Lanka for war crime, introduce “hostage taking of Civilians” as an effective weapon to world terrorists
By Charles.S.Perera
The contradictions of the West is dovetailed to their pretentious "we know everything "attitude. They are fighting the terrorists, telling the world that they will not negotiate with the terrorist. They say, that they will fight terrorism wherever it exists, and will not compromise with terrorists. All that is meaningless bosh. Sri Lanka a small developing country did not show off to any one, it wanted to rid itself of terrorism and they did it successfully and into the bargain rescued a population of 230000 civilians kept as a human shield by the ruthless terrorists. Why I Cheer the Death of Prabakaran and his Band
Dilrook Kannangara
The war reached a ferocious end. It came as a surprise to many and at a huge cost. There was a time when naysayers ruled the day. They predicted that LTTE cannot be militarily defeated and other nonsense. However, a careful look at these quarters revealed that they were business partners in this 37 year old cycle of death and destruction. Their business was managing death and destruction. Sustaining this cycle of misery was essential for their survival and hence they opposed attempts to end this.  Governments were no better. The thing that they called war was... -Full Story-

International media and LTTE propaganda war
Dr.P.A.Samaraweera
During the Sri Lankan war, the LTTE malicious propaganda machinery worked round the clock to convince the world that the civilians held as hostage were staying willingly and certain sections of the international media sympathetic to them colluded and gave wide publicity to the LTTE stand. They were supported by countries and international organisations backing the terrorists. So in addition to the real war fought by the forces there was also a heavy handed propaganda war by the LTTE to demoralise the government, the forces and the people. For example, some terminology and phrases used were, "Unwinnable war,... -Full Story-

Like all the peace loving people of Mother Lanka I too have the right as a citizen to share my thoughts with you and others.  First of all I raised my hands and worship Lord Buddha for creating one of the greatest human beings who loves his Motherland genuinely and sincerely from the bottom of his heart and lead us to eliminate the most ruthless barbaric terrorist out fit in the whole wide world. There is no doubt that resettling of IDPs back into their original homes is a huge daunting task which requires all possible help from all those that are concerned. We hear mostly from the west how concern they are for the lives of Sri Lankans now living in government care camps. Now is the true time for them to show how much they care by giving tangible help rather than giving merely a lip service to innocents Tamils whose lives have been scattered after being held hostage and fired at by gun point. The World should Not Beleive Pro- LTTE Website Concoctions That Prabhakaran Is Still Alive! When His Body Has Already Been Identified And Released.
Insight By Sunil Kumar for LankaWeb
May 19th 2009 The Sri Lankan Government has released information to the World that the Army has recovered the body of slain Tamil Tiger supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran and broadcast the news as well as graphic pictures on national television which pro LTTE sources have ludicrously counter claimed that he was alive and that the group would continue to fight for a separate homeland. This mentality fully portrays exactly what the LTTE stood for and how it operated mostly through innuendo, duplicity and lies and had some of the world gullible enough to listen... -Full Story-

Should the Tamils be "Won Over" - YES and Should the Tamils Apologize? - YES!!!
Prof. Hudson McLean
The thirty year war created by the Tamil Tiger Terrorist LTTE, fully supported by Tamils in Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, Global Tamil Diaspora et al, cost the Island of Sri Lanka billions of dollars in financial cost and trillions in Sinhala human lives. The tourism industry was crippled. Buildings, aircraft, infrastructure totally destroyed. The entire economy was depleted of its resources simply to defend the human lives in Sri Lanka. And some made bags of loot by keeping the insurgency ticking, like the likes of Ratwattes, blood relations of Bandaranaike, and the Ranil Wickremesinghe clan. Now... -Full Story-

An epitaph for terror
By: Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha
When the news finally broke of the death of Prabhakaran, predictably enough there was rejoicing in the country. In Colombo this took the form of crowds bearing flags and processing through the streets. Though there was some inconvenience to vehicles, as far as my own experience went this was minimal, and the crowd seemed reasonably disciplined and even polite. This was a far cry from the vulgar triumphalism one had feared, and which marks even simple sporting achievements, even in Sri Lanka, and certainly so in other lands where alcohol fuels happiness.... -Full Story-

On the question of  whether the LTTE could stage a come back   B.Raman goes to  Balochs and Talibans to compare situations  with regard to the LTTE terrorists. Prabhakaran's Real Allies - Glimpses from the past
Dr.P.A.Samaraweera, Australia
Apart from some Western countries like the US, UK, France and the EU, a powerful ally of Prabhakaran is the Christian Church. Prabhakaran is Christian and has named his son Charles Anthony without giving a Tamil name aligned to the Tamil culture, custom  and language to show his allegiance to the Church and get their unequivocal support. For his dedication to the Church he was rewarded by the local and foreign churches and the clergy by collecting funds and being spokesmen on behalf of the LTTE. For nearly three decades, Sri Lanka came under the brutal terror of the LTTE who glorified... -Full Story-

Towards peace and prosperity through Nation Building
Strategist
Dear Patriotic Friends The recent comments from Milliband against the IMF’s loan is bad enough. Now Brown has also joined the chorus – punish Sri Lanka without realising that such punishment will cause pain for the very IDP’s they are trying to help. http://www.lankabusinessonline.com/fullstory.php?nid=752367977 War against terror is won but peace and prosperity is yet to be won.  A long way to real Nation Building. Mr Gordon Brown, British Prime Minister, has given a warning to Sri Lanka about the consequences of her action! He is due to convey it to the Sri Lankan President in person in a telephone conversation later on Sunday!   I have a great deal of sympathy for Mr Brown, his party and especially for his Foreign Secretary who has had sleepless nights over Sri Lanka in the past few weeks. Mario Perera,Kadawata
This morning seeing our President return from abroad, descending from the plane, kneeling and worshiping the soil of Sri Lanka would no doubt have brought tears to many an eye, in any case it did to mine. If these white "hypocrisies" watched the reception accorded to our president, and the heart warming discourses of one and all that form the fabric of our civil society, they would perhaps realize, if they have eyes to see, that the entire nation is with its leader, that this leader is the embodiment of our fondest national aspiration, that of being... -Full Story-

An Appeal to Tamil Diaspora
By Dr. Raju Selva
In my previous letters, I have told that I am ashamed to call myself a Tamil as LTTE brought more misery and humiliation to the Tamils than any good, forget about the promised homeland for Tamils in Sri Lanka. I strongly believe the Tamil Diaspora (whom I am one of them but I disassociated myself from supporting LTTE long time ago) is as guilty as LTTE for for this predicament for having supported LTTE for the last 25 years. Last few weeks, the world noticed the Tamil Diaspora shouting and screaming down the streets in... -Full Story-

CONARTISTS & TAMIL DIASPORA
ASOKA S.
Recently I was on a flight to Colombo via London from the US. A large number of Tamil speaking people boarded the flights from US east coast as well as London. They were all well dressed, many with their families and looked like very ordinary people heading to their mother country. Nothing is absolutely wrong with that. Then in the last few months I personally observed the huge demonstrations launched by the Canadian and US based Tamil Diaspora in New York and Washington, DC. DEFEAT IS TO THE WEST AND THE CHURCH THE JOB IS WELL DONE

To: The West and the Church The church gifted the western countries with over 1.5 million bogus Tamil refugees from the north and east of Sri Lanka. Every rich western country was allocated with thousands and thousands of Sri Lankan Tamils. The corrupt western politicians fell over each other to grab the opportunity to fill their electorates with the bogus Tamil refugees. May 11th 2009 The latest protests by the LTTE supportive  Tamils in Toronto Canada have been orchestrated with precise theatrics which should however not mislead the International Community, the Entire world and the United Nations. The protestors about a 1000 strong  blocked an arterial highway in the West of Toronto and acted with high handed bravado holding up traffic for  a few hours early today until riot police in full gear were seen advancing and they then dispersed scattering like frightened jackrabbits ! There is however information that the Canadian Government has agreed to look... -Full Story-

Jayalalitha dreams she is playing Durga in a South Indian film.
By Charles.S.Perera
Jayalalitha Jeyaram  has a big mouth to talk with,  but a considerably small brain to think with.  Therefore, what she talks and what she thinks seem to be in constant conflict.  She is against terrorism she once said but she is  now for an Eelam  in Sri Lanka.  Why not an Eelam in India ?  That would avoid a war against the Sri Lanka Army ?  TamilNadu could easily be  converted to an Eelam State to accommodate the Tamils in India, Sri Lanka and those in the Diaspora. Sometime back she also said she is a... -Full Story-

Internatinal news from Sri Lanka - "Hospital in No Fire Zone not shelled"
Dr. Tilak S. Fernando
Editor Metro Newspaper London   Dear Editor Various reports have been circulating in the international media during the past few days, including your news paper (Metro) in a generalised manner about Sri Lankan troops shelling a No Fire Zone in Northern Sri Lanka where government security forces are engaged in a humanitarian exercise to save fleeing Tamil citizens in the area from the clutches of  LTTE terrorists . This has been vigorously condemned and refuted by Sri Lankan authorities.  I am a journalist who had worked as the London correspondent for many years from London and... -Full Story-

LTTE terror propaganda leads to false story on Los Angeles Times
Wick Gankanda
On May 12, 2009   Dear Mr. Russ Stanton, Editor of Los Angeles Times:   Your story '47 people killed in new shelling in Sri Lanka' on May 12, 2009 was generated by the LTTE global misinformation machine to slow or stop anti-terror operations against them. They are forcing the medical officers to lie to generate international outrage.   We hope you will use better judgment in the future before buying into such outrageous fables. Such fraud committed by the LTTE terrorists and propagated by the media in the past 25 years led to their success internationally... -Full Story-

Mahinda Weerasinghe
Author of ‘Mission to Oslo’  ‘Ceasefire' has evolved into a four letter word in Lanka! Sinhalese Buddhist chauvinists were fast discovering that a ‘ceasefire' was literally being forced down their throats. ‘Ceasefire' was the invention by the ex-colonialist in order to cripple a democratically elected government and make it negotiate with the most ruthless terror organisation presently. This instrument was initiated a few weeks back, and touted around as a panacea for all the ills of the bleeding Island. As usual Sri Lankans were caught with their ‘pants down' by the peace industry's new... -Full Story-

Jay Deshabandu
Mr. Ranil wickramasinghe may or may not have well intentions as reasons for meeting with EU officials. But, his recent remarks about India and USA helping Sri Lanka militarily came in at the time of Tamil Nadu elections. Obviously, what is the point for making such statements? Does he think that people in this country no longer believe that he helps Sri Lanka fight against terrorists? Did he display his politically inferior leadership?  Whatever it is, by making such a statement it is very likely that he tried to convey a message to the public at... -Full Story-

A few words to the self-loathing Sri Lankans
By Sesha Samarajiwa
Of late people who made a living out of Sri Lanka-bashing have been changing their tune a bit,  but obviously it’s not easy for them to get off their habitual groove.  Let me illustrate by taking the case of Jehan Perera,  whose career, like those of his ilk,  I have been following with increasing disgust.  Perera is the head honcho of the highly lucrative National Peace Council. From giving a subtle nod to "its [US] proposal, which could include safe passage abroad for the LTTE leadership …" and his glowing tributes to the LTTE... -Full Story-

Will HRW and AI charge the US for war crimes
Simon Baker
Will HRW and AI charge the US for war crimes A probe confirms deaths due to American airstrikes in Afghanistan: Afghan officials have estimated up to 147 people died in the battle in the western province of Farah on Monday. U.S. coalition blamed Taliban militants Saturday for causing what Afghan officials say are dozens of civilian deaths during a prolonged battle that included American airstrikes. The U.S. said an unspecified number of civilians died but did not take responsibility for any deaths.  Why not? Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton who tells that she is concerned... -Full Story-

Doublespeak of the West
By Gomin Dayasri
Doublespeak is a double barrel name for Western Foreign Policy. Lets examine the varying stands shown to the LTTE and the Talibans-Sri Lankan and Pakistan civilians by the West. Hillary Clinton says (in a bout of doublespeak?) she "deeply regrets Afghan casualties" in the Afghanistan theatre of war due to overhead bombing by US fighter planes. Pakistan has declared war on the Taliban militants at the bequest of America. The fighting on the edge of Swat Valley has led to the inflow of nearly 500000 refugees from the war zone. It is a... -Full Story-

Earth has not anything to show more unfair
 Editorial The Island
"Earth has not anything to show more fair," wrote Wordsworth of the breathtaking view of the mist clad London from the Westminster Bridge way back in 1802. But today the earth has nothing to show more dreadful and unfair than what is unfolding at the British Parliamentary Square, where terrorism is being advocated openly. On Wednesday, LTTE activists launched a mob attack on the Chinese Embassy in London in full view of the British police. Only three of the perpetrators were arrested and others went scot free. Last month, LTTE mobs attacked the Indian and... -Full Story-

The suffering of civilians cornered by Human Rights Watch
Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha Secretary General Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process
The Anglo American Corporation Human Rights Watch is now engaged in a campaign, along with its patrons, to denigrate Sri Lanka in the eyes of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. This follows its campaign throughout 2009 to dissuade civilians from leaving LTTE controlled territory to refuge with the Sri Lankan government.   In both cases, the HRW agenda fits in with that of the LTTE. This may not be deliberate, but it is certainly convenient for the LTTE. Now that the LTTE is reduced to... -Full Story-

Asoka Weerasinghe Kings Grove Crescent . Gloucester . Ontario . Canada
May 8, 2009 The Editor (Letters) OTTAWA CITIZEN Sir: On page A5 in today’s  (May 8)  The Ottawa Citizen, you report that Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence “Cannon distressed by lack of ceasefire in Sri Lanka”.   And on page A7 you say “’Human shields’ used in Swat Valley – Pakistan starts offensive against Taliban”. I haven’t heard howls nor whimpers coming out of Canada’s House of Commons denigrating Pakistan’s offensive trying to save the human shield-hostages held by the Taliban’s, nor suggesting that there should be an “Emergency... -Full Story-

Hillari-ous !!!!
Bandula Kothalawala  London
The US has done it again! Mrs Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, has been quick to trot out the familiar ritualistic apology for yet another slaughter of civilians by US Air Force bombings in Afghanistan.  It was not long ago that the sanctimonious Mrs Clinton declared that the whole world was disappointed over Sri Lanka’s war against the LTTE and that it has caused untold suffering. This was, by any standards, a remarkably successful exercise in histrionics, worthy of an Oscar.  Of course, Mrs Clinton has a perfectly valid excuse. She suffers... -Full Story-

AMERICA’S MOST RECENT DOUBLE STANDARDISM
Malin Abeyatunga
BBC reported this evening (6/5/2009) that American forces have killed 30 civilians in Afghanistan including women and children. The number of civilians injured is yet to be known. This killing of civilians has not occurred with direct confrontation between the American forces and the Talibans. This is a result of random searches by American forces hunting for Taliban leaders and Osama bin Laden. This is not the first time that civilians got  killed (previously 75 civilians in a wedding ceremony including the bride and the groom were killed by air bombing) and there will be many more... -Full Story-

The Eelam Virus
Sebastian Rasalingam, Toronto
Thousands of protesters gather on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, to ask for the Canadian government to intervene in what they are calling a genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka. (AP) I have cringed with pain and clutched my head in anguish, watching my grand children's friends in Scarborough, Ontario, going out, with their friends, to join protest marches in the streets of Toronto. These young people are given the Tiger flag which is an insult to the best traditions of Hindu society or the Christian values taught by the prince of... -Full Story-
