Certainly, it cannot be the case that the prevalence of these religions in other countries makes it necessary for... -Full Story-

For instance, Paragraph 4 of the Resolution states: "Welcomes…the... -Full Story-

Chicken nuggets are tasty but do you know what’s in them?
Dr Hector Perera       London
I cannot believe if anyone said that they haven’t eaten any takeaways. In the past in Sri Lanka there were hardly any such places even in small towns but now, they are all over. Now you just pick up a phone to get the takeaways delivered to your doorstep, if you find too busy to get a takeaway. One can view the list of the menu on the internet so the technology has changed the ways to shop. When we go out shopping quite often we tend to eat out from takeaways. The list of... -Full Story-

When the wealth of the Vatican runs into accountable and unaccountable billions it is unfortunate that China is coming forward to fund a renovation of a Christian Church plagued in controversy over diabolical attempts to re- write Sri Lanka’s Buddhist history.  We cannot ignore the subtle attempts being made to distort and erase... -Full Story-

The Paranagama & The Geneva Reports: Attempts To Mislead The Public
Prof. Rajiva Wijesingha
I have refrained thus far from getting involved in the debate over the Geneva Resolution for a number of reasons. One is a commitment to finalize a few books, and in particular an account of what Sri Lanka did right, in winning the war, and then did wrong in losing the peace. Secondly, I had long felt that the last government was destroying the country by its ostrich approach to the allegations made against us. As I told Al Jazeera on the day I expressed publicly my support for the Maithripala Sirisena candidacy, when hardly... -Full Story-

Surveying the events of the last ten days, it seems to me that the need of the hour is to penetrate the fog of misinformation and fantasy with regard to the consequences of the Geneva Resolution on Sri Lanka, and to make a realistic appraisal of the situation. The point of departure is a clear understanding of the facts. I would like to set out here eight very compelling reasons why the Government’s action in this regard is, without a shadow of doubt, gravely detrimental to the national interest of Sri Lanka, and... -Full Story-

The Norwegian government underlined the relevance of Wikileaks revelations, pertaining to Sri Lanka, in Sept. 2011. A comprehensive report, titled Pawns of Peace: Evaluation of Norwegian peace efforts in Sri Lanka, stressed the importance of Wikileaks. Treacherous path from UN ad hoc tribunals to hybrid courts - I

Examining the true intentions behind the US- UN imposition of the hybrid court mechanism to investigate the alleged war crimes by the Sri Lankan armed forces is an onerous task indeed. But, the task becomes a fair deal easier when viewed against the context that gave rise to the development of the UN hybrid court mechanism; essentially, the hybrid court system has its origins in the UN infrastructure put in place by the US neocons in the 1990s, during their hectic campaign to become masters of the unipolar world they anticipated following... -Full Story-

Last week’s all-party conference on the Geneva resolution has been hailed as a success in some quarters. True, the best way to settle a vexed national issue is to adopt a collective approach and reach a consensus among all stakeholders. But, the question is why the government did not care to hold such a lekgotla before deciding to go out of its way to co-sponsor the resolution at issue. In fact, there was a pressing need for an imbizo as well for the government to consult the public before undertaking to implement the UNHRC recommendations. Now,... -Full Story-

The fear that what you eat is “poisoned” and it is not good for you have produced a two-tier market with the top tier, made up of  “organic foods”  catering to the rich, while the poor have to eat the food from the large warehouse sales centers, US examples being  Costco and Wall-mart. "W[ith] extramarital courtship, the deception was prolonged where it had been ephemeral, necessary where it had been frivolous, conspiratorial where it had been lonely." – Mary McCarthy, The Company She Keeps, 1942. Thomas S. Harrington, a Professor at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and a regular contributor to CounterPunch magazine, was brutally frank about America’s deadly play-acting in Syria in his opening observation: "The great danger of faking your ability to do something in the public square is that someone with an actual desire to do the job you are pretending to do... -Full Story-

Appoint a Parliamentary Committee to evaluate the OHCHR Report before deciding on further investigations
Shenali D Waduge
One of the biggest fallacies in Sri Lanka is to get excited by false propaganda manipulated through print/electronic media that has misled public officials, government & opposition ministers including the general public. Let’s not get caught again to any further traps. Another mistake has been the lack of preparation by those representing Sri Lanka and their inability to prepare Sri Lanka’s defence and counter plans. As a sovereign nation we must stand for the rights of our nation and our people and defend those that defend the nation. Since previously we had been fooled by various... -Full Story-

Foreign involvement in mechanism a political decision - Paranagama

The Chairman of Sri Lanka’s three-member probe commission says that certain isolated incidents that may have occurred outside the activities of the war should be investigated in depth to come to conclusion. He said that whether to permit foreign involvement in the mechanism, more than observing, is a political decision. “Those are political decisions we never wanted to tread,” Maxwell Paranagama told Ada Derana in an interview. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a clinical syndrome that may develop following extreme traumatic stress (APA). It is an important, albeit relatively uncommon, consequence of exposure to traumatic events (Greenberg, Brooks & Dunn, 2015) presumably the result of life threats and conditioned fear (Ramage et al., 2015). According to the DSM-IVTR (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual from the American Psychological Association, 2000) the symptoms of PTSD include: a) re-experiencing the traumatic event through intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, and physiological responses similar to when the traumatic event was occurring b) avoidance and numbing such... -Full Story-

Bush-Cheney redux: Obama’s killer drone program and other crimes exposed!
Citizens Electoral Council of Australia
Barack Obama has taken Australia’s most important ally further along the despised Bush-Cheney regime’s morally-bankrupt path of trashing international law, regime change, extra-judicial murder and war crimes. The most egregious and disturbing of Obama’s crimes has been exposed by investigative-reporting website The Intercept, founded by Glenn Greenwald and others, which on 15 October published “The Drone Papers”. These comprise eight articles concerning America’s use of drone attacks in its post-9/11 wars, based upon leaked documents showing that President Obama, from his earliest days in office, ran a global assassination program from the White House... -Full Story-

This article is a follow-up to my previous article of the same title published in Lankaweb on 17th October 2015. The Government’s present plan seems to be, soon after the ‘Debate’ on the OHCHR report, to push through enabling legislation for a “Domestic Mechanism,’ and to do so by a simple majority in Parliament. If the Government gets to push through the aforesaid legislation by a simple majority, Sri Lanka as a country is finished. The 15th year of the last 3 centuries seem to be disastrous to this country. I am particularly comparing what happened to Sri Lanka at the UNHCR this year with that of 1815. The former is shown to serve as the psychological (nāma) component of the latter physical component, While MacLean's model is currently in disfavour within neuroscientific circles, the criticisms are met by pointing out the justified but... -Full Story-

Corruption too must be judged against what is the going yardstick in other parts of the world. Corruption is a natural phenomenon (like entropy) in rapidly evolving  complex physical systems. There is no entropy production (corruption) in systems that evolve infinitely slowly, as we know from thermodynamics. In the West, the Enron scandal, the scandals involving the bail out of Fanny-May, Goldman-Sachs etc., during Obama's bail out, or the scandals involving the blatant handing over of the Iraqi war spin-off business to Haliberton (Dick Chaney, Rusmfeld, Bush are principal shareholders), running into billions are well known. Now the 14th Amendment: Home-made terminological fraud, needs fixing at home and not Geneva
by Rajan Philips Courtesy Island
More by accident than by design, Mr. DEW Gunasekara has kicked open Sri Lanka’s constitutional can of worms. All he may have wanted to do was to make a political statement by grieving before the Supreme Court that the new UPFA leadership under President Sirisena wrongfully deprived him of a national list seat in parliament in favour of a defeated SLFP candidate. Then his intrepid lawyer, Nagananda Kodituwakku, appears to have made a startling discovery that the wording of the provision in the 14th Amendment, relating to the appointment of national list MPs, is different... -Full Story-

Proliferation of sea piracy in the Western Indian Ocean resulted in International Maritime Organization (IMO) establishing a High Risk Area in which piracy threat was greater. They also obtained the required weapons belonging to Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) from Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Ltd (RALL) for convenience. THE UPCOMING ‘DEBATE’ ON THE OHCHR REPORT:  SOME SUGGESTIONS AS TO STRATEGY
DHARSHAN WEERASEKERA
A Parliamentary ‘debate’ on the OHCHR report and the related resolution is scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd of October, if I’m not mistaken.  All indications are that the Government will trounce the opposition by branding them ‘extremists.’  (By ‘opposition’ what I mean are those who see the OHCHR report as inimical to Sri Lanka’s interests, and want to resist the related recommendation for a ‘Domestic Mechanism.’) The opposition, meanwhile, seems to lack a coherent and focused plan of action.  Their strategy appears to consist mainly of various efforts at informing the public that the predicament Sri... -Full Story-

Why should Sri Lanka be compared to East Timor?
Shenali D Waduge
If Sri Lanka is to be compared to any nation it must have similar historical civilizational traits. No amount of distortion, attempts to re-write history by religions out to convert Vedic religions can take away the Buddhist heritage of Sri Lanka and changing the constitution is one attempt to replace the foremost place given to Buddhism by applying a multicultural multi-religious pseudo eye-wash which over time invariably will result in either the Church or Islam determining and dominating how affairs of the State will run according to the religious tenants of their faiths which gives no... -Full Story-

India Using Nazi Invasive Tactics against Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh
Dilrook Kannangara
Nepal’s constitution has triggered Nazi action, particularly, Operation Himmler, from India, again. At the same time, India uses same Nazi action against Sri Lanka, to change the Sri Lankan Constitution to appease Indian ethnic communities living in Sri Lanka. This repetitive behaviour of India is the same conduct Nazi Germany followed to invade Poland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, etc. The world must stop such invasive interference based on ethnicity. Protection of a nation’s ethnic groups rests with that nation. If any external party is unhappy with the rights of a minority ethnic group due to its presence... -Full Story-

The purpose writing this article is to tie up some of the incidents of the past few decades and find solutions to the problems we have today, especially Tamil Separatism. Sri Lanka finished a 30 year old war with Tamil Terrorists due to Tamil leaders wanting a separate state for themselves. Misleading was done mostly by the 'Kalu Suddas' of Colombo and large numbers of well educated Catholic, Christian and Tamil advisors we... -Full Story-

About a month ago, that is, around early September 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India described Bodh Gaya as the “land of enlightenment”, when he visited the Buddhist shrine there, the Mahabodhi Temple. A permanent solution to the National Problem in Sri Lanka
Dr. Sudath Gunasekara:  President Senior Citizens movement Mahanuwara. 12.10.2015
I don’t think there is any other word so often used, misused, abused and more confused than the word ‘national problem’ in Sri Lanka in contemporary literature. To analyze and understand what it means first of all one has to know what Sri Lanka is and then what the Sri Lanka Nation is. Sri Lanka as it is known today in international parlor is the Island lying at the southern tip of the Indian Subcontinent separated only by a 22 mile stretch of sea. This has been in existence as... -Full Story-

Sarath Fonseka should join  Mahinda and Gotabhaya Rajapakse in the interest of Sri Lanka to force withdrawal of  USA resolution, sponsored by Ranil
By Charles. S.Perera
Mahinda Rajapakse, Gotabhaya Rajapakse and Sarath Fonseka were the trio that brought terrorism in Sri Lanka to a conclusion. The breaking up that trio was the desire of the West manipulated by the Tamil diaspora to isolate Mahinda Rajapakse and bring charges of war crimes against Gotabhaya Rajapakse.  Not only they planned the break up, but also made him a political rival of  the President Mahinda Rajapakse. Naturally the idea of the possibility of becoming the President of Sri Lanka may have tempted Sarath Fonseka to give into USA State Department to consent to become a... -Full Story-

Britain’s White Slaves : David Cameron what happened to 850,000 Irish slaves?
Shenali D Waduge
The nicer word used is ‘indentured labor’ but in reality the Irish though white were ripped apart from families and sold to the highest bidders and treated as slaves having transported them to the British colonies. It is these British that are today preaching about human rights when none of the violations committed by them have been allowed to be even investigated and the British refuse to acknowledge their crimes against humanity. 15/10/1505 (510 years ago to date) is the day that the Portuguese first landed in Colombo, Sri Lanka

Towards mid October 1505, the Portuguese Naval Captain, Lorenzo De Almeida, aka Don Lorenzo, who manned a fleet of nine war ships, had decided to return to Portugal  as he could not secure marine rope from the Islands of Maldives or Calcutta in India. Almeida was not aware of the existence of the island nation, Sri Lanka.  During the return journey to Portugal, his crew witnessed on the horizon of a land that was lush in vegetation.  They decided to sail towards that land, Sri Lanka; and upon arrival therein anchored at the Galle Harbour. WORLD TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION TO CHEAT TEACHERS
Cecil Atukorale
It in a common place to say that education depends on the teacher. When we brood over the deceitful manner in which the world teacher's day was celebrated on October 6th, it would be dishonest not to admit that as a race teachers are not a popular section of the community. Geneva 2009-2015 & The Struggle Ahead
By Dayan Jayatilleka
Preambular Paragraph 3 of the October 2015 resolution says that the resolutions of 2012, 2013 and 2014 formed the basis of the resolution of 2015. The 2015 Resolution flows directly from the 2014 Resolution which mandated the Office of the High Commissioner’s investigation on Sri Lanka. What is important is to note that the US resolution of 2015 makes no mention whatsoever of the resolution of 2009. This is because 2009 was an outright victory for Sri Lanka and left no residue which the West could use. An important feature of the successful May 2009 UNHRC resolution... -Full Story-

Whatever the form of Government, a monopoly of power in State would be the end of all civilised politics, whether it be the presidential executive or parliamentary executive. Constant experience has shown us that every man/woman invested with power is apt to abuse it to carry his/her authority as far as it will go. The more politicians want power, less it is about principles. As such the existence of a constitution does not mean automatically that there also exists a democratic system to go along with it. A Lesson for Cowardly Lankan Leaders from Nepal in Constitution Making
Dilrook Kannangara
After eight (8) years of deliberations, the Nepali parliament has finally approved its Constitution. Going by modern democratic standards, it is a fairly progressive constitution. Indian ethnic groups that are minorities in Nepal protested against it. India also protested against it claiming it doesn’t represent the interests of minorities. These minority groups live in larger numbers in India. Failing to make an impact, India made a strong protest with a dictate of seven (7) amendments. However, Nepal didn’t collapse under pressure as it stood its ground. All must hail Nepali leaders’ courage, commitment to democracy and... -Full Story-

Sri Lanka does not need hybrid courts when the culprits sit in judgement
Shenali D Waduge
The UN keeps telling us that our local mechanisms are not good enough, our judiciary is not competent enough and our people are not good enough. Just who do these UN officials think they are pointing fingers when they can’t even put their own house in order. Sadly, we have a government that bows into submission every time a foreigner enters the scene and is ever ready to prostrate before them in agreement. Shouldn’t we be evaluating how successful these international tribunals are and more importantly ask ourselves why we should succumb to allegations that are... -Full Story-

October 10 marks the 15th death anniversary of Sirimavo Bandaranaike - Buddhist Diplomacy in PM Sirimavo Bandaranaike’s Foreign Policy won World Respect for Sri Lanka
by Shenali D. Waduge
No post – independent Government won as much global plaudits for Sri Lanka’s foreign policy as during the time when Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike was Prime Minister. The country witnessed a string of foreign policy successes one after the other mainly during her first two terms of office i.e. 1960 – 1965, and 1970 – 1977.  What was the basis of her foreign policy? In her own words “The Buddhist principles 'pancha seela' governed the tenets of our foreign policy and we made the world aware of this praiseworthy principle”. By Jon Schwarz  Courtesy Information Clearing House
October 08, 2015 " Information Clearing House" - "The Intercept" -   On October 3, a U.S. AC-130 gunship attacked a hospital run by Médecins Sans Frontières in Kunduz, Afghanistan, partially destroying it. Twelve staff members and 10 patients, including three children, were killed, and 37 people were injured. According to MSF, the U.S. had previously been informed of the hospital’s precise location, and the attack continued for 30 minutes after staff members desperately called the U.S. military. The U.S. first claimed the hospital had been “collateral damage” in an airstrike aimed at “individuals” elsewhere who... -Full Story-

ASHOKA - An Emperor to emulate
King Ashoka, the third monarch of the Indian Mauryan dynasty, has come to be regarded as one of the most exemplary rulers in world history. The British historian H.G. He had invaded Kalinga (255 B.C.), a country along the east coast of Madras, perhaps with some intention of completing the conquest of the tip of the Indian peninsula. Nymphomania (Furor Uterinus)
By Ruwan M Jayatunge M.D. and Laurent Karila, MD, PhD Paul Brousse University Hospital, Villejuif, France
Problematic sexual behaviors have been identified for centuries and Nymphomania has become a controversial subject among the clinicians. Nymphomania is considered as an organic disease, psychological disorder and a legal construct (Groneman, 2001). The term nymphomania resonates with a sense of the insatiable sexuality of women, devouring, depraved, and diseased. It conjures up an aggressively sexual female who both terrifies and titillates men (Groneman, 1994). In general notion nymphomania is defined as a neurotic condition in women in which the symptoms are a compulsion to... -Full Story-

They will be almost totally reducing tariffs on key traded items. The biggest winners of TPP are Vietnam and Malaysia. The biggest losers are Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Cambodia and China. Sri Lanka’s share of US apparel imports is expected to fall by 0.2% from 1% to 0.8%. Although they look small in terms of US trade, it is a drop of 20% (1% to 0.8%). Dodging an inglorious end – An Orwellian redrafting of recent history
R. Chandrasoma  Courtesy Island
We are told by high authorities in the government that our former President has good hopes of being alive in the years ahead because of the political heroism and encompassing compassion of those who defeated him at the recent historic elections. Indeed, the claim has been made by no less a person than the globe-trotting (and oracular) Foreign Minister that the former Leader (MR) escaped an inglorious end strapped to an ‘Electric Chair’ because of the pleading and promises of the New Leadership – to purge our ancient land of the political roguery and rampant... -Full Story-

Elbowing a Superpower - Russian Style
Hemantha Abeywardena writes from London Courtesy - Asian Tribune -
The fact that a 3-star Russian general gave his US counterparts in Syria just an hour’s notice to move American aircrafts out so that Russia can launch air strikes, undoubtedly, is the most significant watershed moment in the post-Soviet, geo-political landscape. In fact, the alarming development was a bolt from the blue as far as the Western alliances, both at political and military level, are concerned. At stake, among many things, is the invincibility of the alliances that often went unchallenged, following the Second World War. Having been caught... -Full Story-

Hambantota Port takes off?
“Thoughts” – by Michael Roberts
From Daily Mirror Item dec 2014  This is actually from an old news item in the Daily Mirror in late 2014 –perhaps one that was buried in the course of election fever during the Presidential contest. There is an ironic twist here: the astrological wisdom that led His Lordship, Mahinda Rajapaksa, to call an early election stands in contrast with the unknown functionaries and Presidential diktat (guided in part by his cultivation of his own patch –a “wrong reason”) that saw one of the world’s unique inland harbours being built at Hambantota. Hilarious : Internationally banned LTTE Terrorist Fronts influence UNHRC resolutions
Shenali D Waduge
Into the hall of historical shame will enter the present UNSG, the UNHRC heads and officials and all other foreign nations that have been party to successive resolutions demanding investigations against a UN member state. The matter becomes hilarious for no other reason than the fact that the supposed ‘evidence’ against Sri Lanka comes from the documentaries, reports, witness accounts and lobbying funded and organized by internationally banned LTTE fronts domiciled in western nations and influencing the foreign parliamentarians electoral victory. Making things more bizarre is the fact that these foreign governments have netted Tamils from... -Full Story-

COUNTRY NEEDS A CONSTITUTION WITH DIRECT CHECKS & BALANCES TO TAME OUR POLITICIANS
Cecil Atukorale
Whatever the form of Government, a monopoly of power in state would be the end of all civilised politics, whether it be the Presidential Executive or Parliamentary Executive. Constant experience has shown us that every man/woman invested with power is apt to abuse it to carry his/her authority as far as it will go. The more politicians want power, less it is about principles. As such the existence of a constitution does not mean automatically that there also exists a democratic system to go along with it. At all stages of constitution making in the past our... -Full Story-

ZEID COMMITS (POSSIBLE) CONTEMPT OF COURT AGAINST THE SRI LANKA JUDICIARY
DHARSHAN WEERASEKERA
On the 30th of September, U.N. Human Rights High Commissioner Zeid Al Hussein issued a video statement to the Human Rights Council then in session, regarding the war crimes investigation on Sri Lanka conducted by his office.  He reiterated his call for a ‘hybrid court’ to pursue the charges enumerated in the report, because in his view Sri Lanka’s domestic courts lacked the independence and impartiality to take on such a task. In my view, the High Commissioner’s statement amounts to contempt of court.  In this article, I shall briefly explain why the High Commissioner’s statement amounts... -Full Story-

Hanging Sri Lanka by it is neck until it is dead !
By Charles.S.Perera
It had been seen  since 1978, that each time UNP comes into power it is the death knell for Sri Lanka. It is not necessary to repeat the disasters that UNP caused from writing 13 A into the Constitution, Batalanda Torture Camps, Military safe house disaster, CFA, to Central Bank Bond scam. Now with a PM acting like a dictator inside the Parliament with a Speaker( a lackey of the Prime Minister) of the House obediently accepting  the indiscipline of the Prime Minister, and COPE report swept  under the carpet, every thing is set to hang Sri... -Full Story-

Ranil Wickramasinghe Emulated his Infamous Ancestor when he Sold the Country Down the River
By Gandara John
On 30 Sep 15 Ranil Wickramasinghe (RW) emulated his infamous ancestor Don Adrian Jayawardhana and did that unworthy proud when he guilefully guided inimical US forces into Sri Lanka (SL) by opening the island’s gates, from within. The beneficiary of RW’s guile was the enemy who waged a proxy war on SL for nearly 30 years and who on being militarily defeated immediately switched tactics by waging siege war on the island like they have unsuccessfully conducted on the heroic Cuban people for nearly 60 years, applying financial, trade, market and tariff embargos. PRAIRIE AWARDS FOR LANKAN JOURNALISM -- Focus on Manik de Silva -Part 3

Mervyn showed the characteristics of a connection-oriented Tigger (spontaneous, playful, witty, fun-loving and energetic, but irresponsible and disruptive) while Manik showed the characteristics of a status-quo oriented Eeyore (who enjoys being alone, likes independent activities, and shows profundity--a synthesis of learning and insight). Disappearance of Buddhism From India: An Untold Story
             Naresh Kumar
The complete disappearance of the religion of the Buddha from the land of its birth is one of the greatest puzzles of history. Once holding sway throughout the length and breadth of the subcontinent, Buddhism today survives only in the Himalayan fringes along the Tibetan frontier and in small pockets in northern and western India among recent Ambedkarite Dalit converts. Various theories have been put forward which seek to explain the tragic eclipse of Buddhism from India. According to one view, corruption in the Buddhist sangha or priesthood precipitated Buddhism's ultimate decline. While it is true... -Full Story-

If nations have their origins in civilizations, derive their nationhood from a civilizational premise, the only ethnic group  that is entitled to claim the term ‘nation’, is the Sinhala ethnic group responsible for the creation of a civilization-the Sinhala Buddhist civilization. No other ethnic group can make that claim, though they have contributed to its evolution at different periods. What does it take to defeat terrorism? Well, the answer will vary depending on who is being asked the question. In other words, it’s like cleaning up breeding grounds to deal with the Dengue mosquito.  One of the core beliefs in Buddhism is that one’s "self" is constantly changing, even if you feel like you’ve been the same person all your life. It looks like science is now backing up that theory. Courtesy The Daily Mirror

The SLFP's senior vice president, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the highest court in Sri Lanka was the Supreme Court and there was no hybrid court in Sri Lanka’s judicial system. “The UNHRC report says that Sri Lanka needs to adopt feasibility legislation, specific legislation to facilitate a... -Full Story-

Sinhala Majority discriminated : Paid adverts ‘Tamil Only’
Shenali D Waduge
We have been told enough times that the minorities are discriminated by the majority. The paid media is quick to sensationalize and the international organizations find this an opportunity to advance their agendas for which foreign governments are ready to disburse funds. However, let’s stick to the principles of things. Where in the world do you find adverts openly canvassing through paid advertisements where land and property are sold/leased/rented to only a particular race/religion? In most countries this is an illegal act just as adverts are not allowed to include the age when calling for vacancies.... -Full Story-

Co-sponsorship of the Geneva resolution: Some reflections
by Prof. G.L. Peiris Courtesy Island
The events of the last week demonstrate, with poignant clarity, the folly of naïve expectation and the need for realistic thinking. This cannot be better illustrated than by reference to the reassuring statement, barely hours before tabling of the Resolution, by the Cabinet Spokesman: "The (UNHCR) Report proposes establishing a hybrid court with international judges, but I think the U.S. backed Resolution will want that expunged." Equally confident statements have been made throughout the week by several of his cabinet colleagues. The sequel, not surprisingly, has been quite different. The text of the U.S.... -Full Story-
