Does Sri Lanka record in her unparalleled recorded history, other great seekers or Enlightened Beings as those in... -Full Story-

Pro-India Solih loses to pro-China Muizzu in Maldivian Presidential poll
By P.K.Balachandran Courtesy NewsIn.Asia
Colombo, September 30: India has suffered a geopolitical setback in the Maldives. In the final phase of the Maldivian Presidential election held on Saturday, the pro-Indian incumbent Ibrahim Solih was defeated by his pro-China challenger Dr.Mohamed Muizzu. But there is a silver lining: In his election speeches, Muizzu   repeatedly promised to follow an independent and non-partisan foreign policy. Be that as it may, the bottom line is that India will not have a monopoly of influence over the Maldives under Muizzu that it had during the Solih regime from 2018... -Full Story-

N. B. In a time of chaos, confusion, disorder and uncertainty discussing about Kandyan Chieftains may be interpreted as something akin to engaging in  ecstatic revelry, overlooking current issues. But as a modern myth has been created, that Kandyan Chiefs “subverted” the policies of the British, “expressed their resistance to British colonialism”, we are duty-bound to debunk it and put the record straight. As Chairman Mao Zedong had said (1957), “Undoubtedly we must criticise wrong ideas of every description. It certainly, would not... -Full Story-

Real victims and real danger of Channel 4’s fact-less documentary

Colombo, September 13: Channel 4’s latest documentary on the Easter Sunday attack is way too depressing for any Sri Lankan, more so for the survivors and relatives who live with the memories of the slaughter of innocents. But, after a 47-minute-long documentary, all that emerges is a ghastly piece of clickbait journalism that tries to repackage a hackneyed conspiracy theory, relying on the testimony of a single dubious asylum seeker, and generously mixing the harrowing tales of survivors, who live with the pain, as if the emotive appeal would provide credibility to... -Full Story-

A few days ago, this writer posed a critical question to an Islamic scholar of Sri Lankan heritage, now residing in Australia, regarding the Easter attacks: Was it a sinister political conspiracy? The response was unequivocal—there was no political conspiracy lurking behind the gruesome event. However, what unfolded was the grotesque exploitation of this tragedy for political gain by various factions. What transpired was the transformation of extremist ideologies, systematically indoctrinated into segments of the Muslim society over an extended period, into a violent catastrophe. Regrettably, our society, as a whole, has... -Full Story-

Cultural Genocide during a Carnival of  Buffoons: Thoughts of a dry brain
By Rohana R. Wasala
It would be obvious to the correctly informed impartial observer that Sri Lanka's age-old Buddhist religious cultural establishment is under unprovoked attack both within the country and outside of it. The current controversy about Channel 4's latest film on Sri Lanka concerning the Easter Sunday suicide bombings carried out by Islamic Jihadist terrorists four years ago is merely a smokescreen created to conceal a hoped-for critical final phase of that anti-Buddhist operation. This reference to the cacophonous Channel 4 prattle should not be regarded as something out of context. According to Lanka C News... -Full Story-

TAMIL COLONIZATION   OF SINHALA LANDS Part 2C
KAMALIKA PIERIS
Revised 12.9.23 The place names of the north and east indicate that the north and east were Sinhala before they became Tamil. The incoming Tamils, arriving from Tamilnadu, simply tamilised the existing Sinhala place names instead of inventing new names. In 1886, the irrigation engineer, Henry Parker, presented a series of Sessional papers to the Legislative Council, on the subject of irrigation in the Northern Province. He commented, inter alia, on the available historical information relating to the tanks he was inspecting. Parker found the following substitution of Tamil names... -Full Story-

As the ice bumped along its starboard side, it punched holes in the ship's steel plates, flooding six compartments. With Both Elected President and Prime Minister Out, the Present Regime Has No Mandate
Dilrook Kannangara
Representative democracy is all about government through elected representatives. This is the only form of democracy in the world. Sadly, the top two elected representatives have been removed from their positions (and many other top vote winners too). The president and the prime minister currently serving have no mandate to rule the country. Elections must be called immediately. Gotabaya was elected president with a large mandate in 2019 but is no more in politics. Incumbent president did not contest for the presidential election and did not win his seat at the parliamentary election either.... -Full Story-

TAMIL COLONIZATION   OF SINHALA LANDS Part 2A
KAMALIKA PIERIS
This essay looks at Tamil colonization of Sinhala lands during British rule. (1815-1948).From the time they took control of the Udarata kingdom, the British wanted to bring the Sinhala population to heel, especially after the rebellions of 1818 and 1848. It was easy to move Tamils from Tamilnadu to Sri Lanka .Tamilnadu and Sri Lanka were both under the British.  The British policy of settling Tamils... -Full Story-

IMF Blocks Repatriation of Export Proceeds

In December last year the Governor of the Central Bank appealed to exporters to repatriate export proceeds in full within the stipulated period. He does not want to bring in regulations to force them to do this on the argument that will deter foreign investment. A think tank of Peradeniya University has pointed out that with an expected annualised export income of $ 16.3 billion in 2022 ($ 13.3 billion in merchandise exports and $ 3 billion in services exports) the country is being deprived of a staggering $ 6.8 billion in 2022 alone. A War Like No Other
By  Peter Van Buren *
The Biden doctrine is a cynical effort to cash in on the blood of another nation. Joe Biden created for the U.S. a war like no other, one where others die and the U.S. simply sits back and pays the bills on a gargantuan scale. No attempts are made at diplomacy by the Americans, and the diplomatic efforts of others like the Chinese are dismissed as evil attempts to gain influence in the area (similar to the dismissal of Chinese diplomatic work in the Yemen war.) Biden is coming close to... -Full Story-

How did protestors succeed in ousting a President in Sri Lanka but failed in Brazil

In July 2022, protestors in Sri Lanka were made to believe, their protest forced the exit of the elected President. In January 2023 protestors in Brazil failed to overthrow the elected government. There are similarities and differences, but it should certainly tell people that protests elevated to riots & violence are not democracy or human rights. Kite Flying

CEB has requested the public to refrain from flying kites in the vicinity of electric pylons. But it is noted that there is some kite flying on the candidates in the 2024 presidential election. Of course, although no official announcement is made it is very clear that the incumbent President will be the prime candidate. He depends on the support of the minorities and India. Many of Sajith’s group will eventually join him and the SJB will wither away. Pohottuwa is in a quandary. Will they have the mettle to give RW the Karapincha treatment or will... -Full Story-
