Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India
South Block, Raisina Hall,
New Delhi, India 110011

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Dear Prime Minister Manmohan Singh:

Your statement explaining why India voted for the US resolution against Sri Lanka on March 22, 2012, at the UN Human Rights CouncilƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s deliberations in Geneva was pathetic and a joke.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Did you really know what you said?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Here it is: ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-as a neighbour with thousands of years of cordial relations with Sri Lanka, with deep rooted spirituality and cultural ties, it is bound by a shared quest for freedom and dignityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Holy CowƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, I said.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-What did IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Prime Minister smoke that morning after getting out of bed.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Did he really say that he wants to uphold Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”freedom and dignityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That was a good try, Sir.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  But you failed miserably.

At first blush, I thought India was a loser.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You know why Prime Minister?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  This is why. If you thought that India, the regional giant could play Pied piper and get all the Asian countries stand at attention behind you in a line, do the Bhangara line-dance while you play the Tamil NaduƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s tom-tom and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ get them to vote for the resolution, wellƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  it did not happen. Maldives, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Philippines & Thailand stuck their fingers up their noses and looked at you and said, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-NaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦nanaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦naƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦naƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦NaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦nanaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦naƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦na!ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  That is why you were a loser and Sri Lanka was the winner.

Prime Minister, wasnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t it disingenuous on your part to say, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-with thousands ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ years of cordial relations with Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Surely not between 1983 and 1990, when you Indians unloaded 27 years of misery of the Kali Curse on Sri Lanka when you trained thousands of Tamil Tigers with combat Weapons Training using 303 rifles, AK47s, pistol/revolvers, firing practice, leopard crawls, ghost walks, monkey crawls, first aid, preparation of Molotov cocktails, fire-fighting endurance tests, firing SLRs, LMGs, SMGs Rocket launchers, 2ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ mortar explosives, grenade throwing, map reading, military tactics, and so forth.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  And you all got Subehar Major Narashimma Varman of the Indian Army, Rajah a retired Indian Army soldier, Sekar a retired Indian Army soldier, Alagasamy a retired Indian police officer and an ex-Indian Army officer and so forth to train them.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You Indians took these barefooted Tamils from Northern Sri Lanka, trained them in military camps at Parangamali, Salem Kollimalai Kanjipuram,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Sengalpattu Presawakkam, Valachchari & Thenikramam, a place in close proximity to Greater Kailas 11 in New Delhi, Sadtagen Development Area adjoining to Cannal Park in New Delhi and at many more venues.

You took these barefooted Tamil youth trained them, taught them how to march in jackboots, dressed them up in Tamil Tiger military fatigues, filled their pockets with money and hand grenades, and sent them back to Sri Lanka cradling Kalashnikovs like babies and with festoons of live bullets around their necks to kill my people in the thousands. And you said that India had ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-cordial relationsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ with Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ThatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s buckets of spice-smelly achchar, isnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t it, Prime Minister? We all know, that Sri Lanka now has a hostile neighbour who does what the Americans want them to do to Sri Lanka as well as what the KarunanidhiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s and the JayalalithaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s of Tamil Nadu want them to do.

That man Karunanidhi of Tamil Nadu whom you accommodated by getting India to vote for the American resolution against Sri Lanka, now talks of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…”ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Tamil EelamƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ his unrealized dream and said he will fight for its realization.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ So his dream is to create a mono-ethnic, racist, Tamil separate state, Eelam, for 3.9% Tamils, with a territory spanning one-third of that island nation bordered by 66% of the coastline.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Are ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ you nuts even to encourage this yellow-scarfed anti-Sri Lanka bandit.

HereƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s the possible scenario. The Tamil Nadu politicians will create chaos in the Upper and Lower Houses wanting the Central Government to invade Sri Lanka and create their much wanted Eelam, and the houses will be adjourned.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Since you want the Tamil Nadu votes, are you going to send Mirage 2000s screaming violating Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s sovereign airspace as you all did in July 1987 and drop a couple of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”parippuƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢-bombs here and there, to taunt and scareƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lanka to give these Tamil Nadu politician rascals their Eelam?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  What are you going to do Prime Minister?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You want their votes donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t you?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Those are the stakes that you are playing for in your war games of Chennai Roulette with Sri Lanka!

Well, plate-tectonic-geo-politics have change immensely since that memorable July 1987, when you Indians scared the hell out of the Sri Lankan government and forced Sri Lanka to sign that Indo-Lanka accord, with Mirage 2000s flying over Sri Lanka and a war ship parked just outside ColomboƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢sƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  territorial waters.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The China plate and the India plate are on the move millimeter by millimeter before collision and Sri Lanka ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ happens to be riding on the China plate.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You are no fool Prime Minister, and that seems your concern too, isnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t it? A collision between the geo-political ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ tectonic plates.

And you heard, quite loud and clearly what the Russian FederationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Ambassador Vladimir P. Maikhaylov had to say in Geneva before the vote.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  He made it abundantly clear that non-interference in internal affairs of sovereign states as it is declared in international law is one of the pillars of Russian foreign policy.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-We have never supported attempts of other countries to violate or bypass this principle under various pretexts.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Our Presidents and Ministers of Foreign Affairs through out the history of modern Russia always stated that any such interference could be made only on the basis of the corresponding UN Security Council resolution.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ Hearing those words and what you were going to do with your vote, I am sure you may have been sweating under your turban.

I could not understand for a moment when the US had begun to relentlessly intrude into the security politics of the Indian Subcontinent and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ have started to meddle ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in internal conflicts in IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s neighbours and why India became ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ a co-partner by voting for the resolution.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  There is a deep sense of anxiety among other subcontinentƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”s sovereign nations with IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s betrayal. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ How could you be part of the politics as dished out by the State and allow India to be dragged into be a rogue-partner of their philosophy in geo-politics – ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”polyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ (many) ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”ticsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ (parasites) of the State who thinks it is GodƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  just because they sent a Man to the Moon.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  For crying out loud, cross my heart, I donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t get you India!

WasnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t there a time when you India thought that the subcontinent was IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s exclusive sphere of influence and New Delhi must strive to prevent greater western powers intervention in the regionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s internal matters?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  This notion of an Indian Monroe Doctrine, similar to the one proclaimed in the 19th century for the Western Hemisphere by the US, was expounded by none other than Jawaharlal Nehru.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  He stressed the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ importance of keeping foreign powers ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ out of Asia on their efforts to regain territories after the World War II.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  DidnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t Nehru insist that foreign armies have no business to stay on the soil of Asian countries?

During the Indira Gandhi years, the IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Monroe Doctrine was buttressed by the principle of bilateralism, was it not?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Under the so called Indira Doctrine, India insisted the problems in the region must be solved bilaterally and that external powers should have no role in the region.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Recall the 1987 agreement signed by Rajiv Gandhi with Sri Lanka which insisted that Colombo not offer bases to any other country.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  But that reality that South Asia was an exclusive geopolitical space for India died on March 22, 2012, when India voted to screw Sri Lanka, its neighbour, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ supporting the US resolution against Sri Lanka in Geneva, and Maldives, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Phillipines and ThailandƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  stuck their fingers up their noses and told you, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-NaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦nanaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦naƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦na, NaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦nanaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦naƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦naƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

By doing so PrimeMinister Manmohan Singh you have established that mighty India is now a hostile neighbor of little Sri Lanka, who managed to wipe out the Made in IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Tamil Tigers,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ most ruthless terrorists in the world, that you all trained to destabilize Sri Lanka, and who fought you back between 1987 and 1990 and let your army return to India with 1,200 body bags of your dead soldiers having accomplished nothing.

All this is history, and the new reality is that with your liaison with the States interfering in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka, and your Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha are on the war path with Sri Lanka to create their Eelam, the plate-tectonic-geopolitical-plates of India and China are slowly moving towards each other, and Sri Lanka is being carried precociously on the China plate.

So, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ just stop pulling your Kashmir silk over our eyes, because we Sri Lankans are not naƒÆ’†’ƒ”š‚¯ve and nor are we fools, as we see you, big and clearly.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  What a hostile neighbour you are, nothing more and nothing less.

Very sincerely,

Asoka Weerasinghe (Mr.)

According to Island editorial 24/03/12 Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was in daily consultation on the phone with National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon in New Delhi. So what was the outcome. Absolute Nothing!!! so, Defence Secretary should take a note of what Asoka says and be prepared to step down when UN sponsored war crime investigations against him are underway in near future to avoid conflict of interest.

What are we complaining India has been the enemy of Sri Lanka from time immemorial. Bending over backwards and allowing India to invade our economy is not going to help. Sri Lanka does not need indian investment to employ Indians when our people are sent to the middle East for employment and slavery.iIt is time the real truth about Indian domination and exploitation is exposed. Time for the Sinhalese to rise up against this injustice of Indian intervention.

  3. Ananda-USA Says:

    Dear President Man Mohan Singh,

We don’t accept your apology, in view of the damage already done to Sri Lanka by India’s vote in Geneva.

Several decades ago, India planted Tamil terrorism in Sri Lanka, invaded our country, tried to divide our motherland in two in favor of those terrorists, imposed the 13th Amendment to our Constitution to legalize devolution of power on communal basis to separatists… FOR THE SAME REASON that India voted against Sri Lanka at Geneva.

Inability to CONTROL Tamil Racists in India conniving with Foreign Powers against India’s own National Interests will ultimately lead to the DISINTEGRATION of India itself… but that is India’s own funeral.

But, it becomes Sri Lanka’s problem if India fails to CONTROL its own Tamil citizens, and mind its own business within the territory of India, leaving Sri Lanka alone.

Instead of ATONING for the Crimes India Committed against Sri Lanka, which has led to the deaths of over 150,000 of our citizens, arrested our economic and social progress, and created continuing barriers to our recovery from war as a UNIFIED nation free of communal divisions, India CONTINUES to act against the interests of Sri Lanka, STIRRING the POT OF COMMUNAL DIVISIONS and HATE.

We simply CANNOT accept this CONTINUING INTERFERENCE in Sri Lanka’s internal matters by India; we must look elsewhere for friendship, support and understanding in the future.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has written to President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka on the resolution in the UN Human Rights Council.

The text of the Prime Minister’s letter to the President of Sri Lanka is as follows:

“Thank you for your letter of March 19 regarding the ongoing session of the UN Human Rights Council and the introduction of a resolution therein on the post-conflict situation in Sri Lanka.

As Your Excellency is aware, the Government and the people of India have stood firmly by Sri Lanka in its struggle against terrorism. The end in May 2009 of a long and tragic conflict that had claimed numerous innocent lives, in Sri Lanka and in India, was something that we regarded as providing, at long last, an opportunity for genuine national reconciliation end for addressing the urgent needs of development and reconstruction of all citizens of Sri Lanka. Our two governments have, over the last three years, engaged intensively in the immediate tasks of relief and rehabilitation for those displaced by the conflict, as well as the more long-term effort of reconstruction of national infrastructure. Much important progress has been registered on this front and I wish to record my appreciation of the assistance your Government has provided to various Indian agencies implementing projects of national significance on the ground in Sri Lanka. I was also happy to learn of Your Excellency’s intention to continue the process of implementing the recommendations of the LLRC.

We have also had occasion in the past to discuss the way ahead with regard to a political solution that will address all outstanding issues, in particular the grievances of the Tamil community in Sri Lanka, in a spirit of understanding and mutual accommodation. It is our conviction that a meaningful devolution package, building upon the 13th Amendment, would lead towards a lasting political settlement on many of these issues and create conditions in which all citizens of Sri Lanka, irrespective of their ethnicity, can find justice, dignity, equality and self-respect. I would like to reiterate to Your Excellency my Government’s commitment to continue to be of assistance in the achievement of this important objective.

With regard to the matter of the resolution in the UN Human Rights Council, I had instructed our delegation to remain in close contact with its Sri Lanka counterparts in an attempt to find a positive way forward. Your Excellency would be aware that we spared no effort and were successful in introducing an element of balance in the language of the resolution.

I wish to assure Your Excellency that, going forward, we will continue our engagement with the shared objective of building a stable, secure and prosperous environment in Sri Lanka in which all communities can flourish and in which India-Sri Lanka relations can continue to grow from strength to strength.”

It is the Indian imperialism that is causing the problems in Sri Lanka ( I personally like to call it Ceylon because Sri Lanka is what people from the Indian subcontinent used to call the island. Ceylon means lands of Sinhalese like India comes from hindia the land of Hindus).

This UNHRC resolution is an Indian imperialist job. US is just the pawn. Remember there are a lot of Indians in US and leading supporters and administrators, business people of Indian origin in the US support Democrsts.

The people responsible for this resolution are Indian colonial parasites (Indians who went as sepoys and coolies to former British dominions) India, non resident Idians and Persons of ndian Origin,

  5. Ben_silva Says:

Clearly the Indian PM ignored what is right, just tp please Tamil voters. The situation will continue and India may be manupulated by Tamils. If that happens, India could be a serious threat. However, there are other groups, other than Tamils and we need to communicate effectively with them. There is a serious failure to communicate with the world. It is not wise to make unnecessary enemies. However, Indian threat has to be taken very seriously and steps needed to counteter it.(Rest of the comment is deleted as it is not relevant)

Since the US was established, death has been the name of the game. From the Native indians being eliminated to the Mexican War to the Civil War to the Spanish American War, WW1 WW2, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, Iraq War, Afghanistan, Iraq War, Libya, soon Syria, and then Iran….. When will it end? How many millions of people have died in these wars? Who is responsible for more deaths?

I am sure I have missed a few military adventures on my timeline that has led to the death of many innocent people. The Sri Lanka should be recognised by the UN for eliminating the world’s deadliest terrorists. It’s quite obvious who should be accountable for the deaths of innocent lives. The Human Rights violators think MIGHT IS RIGHT.

I am sure the US in its past, present, and future will be remembered in history as far worse and more destructive than the Nazis ever were. This little rant speaks nothing of the vast wars that have been waged against the American people by this CORPORATE STATE and which are responsible for the current financial crisis.

“as a neighbour with thousands of years of cordial relations with Sri Lanka, with deep rooted spirituality and cultural ties, it is bound by a shared quest for freedom and dignity”. What you have said is correct but what you have done was wrong and foolish. Keep in mind that those manipulators who have pushed you into this situation will not stop until they destroy your own country. This is just the start.

Lanka warns India of repercussion over Kashmir

COLOMBO – Sri Lanka on Saturday warned India of possible repercussions over Held Kashmir after it voted for a US resolution in Geneva on rights abuses during its war on the Tamil Tigers.

Government spokesman Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said some countries or groups might use the vote on Sri Lanka as precedence to bring a similar resolution on India over the Kashmir dispute, Xinhua reported.

Sri Lanka was, however, mindful that India acted as a result of immense pressure from Tamil political parties, Abeywardena, the acting media minister, told a public meeting.

Much to the disappointment of Colombo, India was among 24 countries which voted in support of the US sponsored resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Thursday.

Fifteen countries voted against and eight abstained.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has warned that countries which voted for the resolution would have to worry about consequences of terrorism.

The Sri Lankan President commended the 15 countries which voted against ‘the anti-Lanka resolution for their support’ and the eight nations which abstained in the 47-member UNHRC. Countries which voted against Sri Lanka would have to be concerned about consequences, he was quoted as saying. Meanwhile, in an apparent move to reach out to Sri Lanka and cool down passions against India, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday wrote to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, telling him that India made all efforts and succeeded in introducing an ‘element of balance’ in the US-sponsored resolution at UNHCR. Singh also stressed the need for achieving a lasting political settlement to address the grievances of minority Tamils in Lanka.

Singh wrote to Rajapaksa, “Your Excellency would be aware that we spared no effort and were successful in introducing an element of balance in the language of the resolution.” Though India voted in favour of the resolution, it worked behind the scenes to tweak the document to make it ‘non-intrusive’, the letter claimed. “It is our conviction that a meaningful devolution package, building upon the 13th Amendment, would lead towards a lasting political settlement on many of these issues and create conditions in which all citizens of Sri Lanka, irrespective of their ethnicity, can find justice, dignity, equality and self-respect,” Singh said.

If India honestly respects the freedom and dignity of people, India should focus on it’s own 1.3 billion population and not the 1.2 million population of tamils living in Sri Lanka.

the simple question is why Tamils if they are this much unhappy in Sri lanka, instead of going back to their BELOVED MOTHERLAND, they go to other countries. They go all over the world and to every corner of the world but not to TamilNadu.

One thing in Lankaweb is, writers bash everybody they can except we don’t talk about our own faults and where we can grow up and change.

It is very easy to bash and blame every one else and become the eternal victims. That is the attribute of weak people.

When I think about great writers and contributors of the LANKAWEB, I remember some Russian, Indian (e.g. Tagore and Sri Lankan) writers who wrote to change the country’s attitudes. Unfortunately, present writers are not feeling that suicidal.

  11. douglas Says:

HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa- My advice to you at this moment :

    1. Remain calm and accept defeat in a humble manner, but magnanimously.

    2. Send your thoughts back to ex-President Junious Richard Jayawardane days, i.e. when he was forced and humiliated to sign agreements and include an Amendment called the 13th to the Sri Lanka Constitution. Remember the “Parippu Flight” that came to North. Also get reminded of the Naval Rating’s blow on Rajeeve Gandhi. He did gave in “magnanimously” to all these humiliations, but knowing what a cunning fox he was, some of us knew that he would have the “last laugh”.

    3. Then this Sri Lanka “FOX” a Royal one, started the game. He persuaded Rajeeve to send the IPKF to North and withdrew all his armed forces to Colombo. The Indian Govt. headed by Rajeeve sent thousands and thousands of troops and started the fight with the LTTE. What happened? The LTTE sent back thousands of these IPKF troops in “Body Bags”to Delhi. This was the biggest “humiliation” suffered by the so called biggest army in the region.

    4. The fight that erupted was a well structured plan to draw a “wedge” between Rajeeve and Prabahakaran. This escalated to such a highest level that Prabahakaran decided to “exterminate” Rajeeve without batting an eye lid. Prabahakaran completely forgot the “Hand that extended to his up-bringing.

    5. You and all of us saw the results. Rajeeve was blown into pices leaving only to be identified with his shoes.

So Dear President, please remember this drama. Who had the “Last Laugh”. Be patient and magnanimous at this point of time humiliation. You are not from Royal, but belongs to Giruwa Pattu breed and I know you possese that “Village Tactics”. The next dram will unfold during your and our life time. All of us can have the last laugh together.

  12. May182009 Says:

Sri Lanka bringing up the Kashmir matter is a very timely and a far sighted thing.

There is no need to accept “defeat”. That is head under the sand mentality that landed the nation firmly in the grip of terrorism unable to break free for 30 years.

Kashmir will soon hit the UN and UNHRC once again. Actually this is in the offing. Please read Items #1, #2 and #3 in the following post.

When Kashmir comes for a resolution at the UN or UNHRC or both what should Sri Lanka do?

    1. Vote against the resolution.

Then we will not have any friends thereafter!

Pakistan, China and perhaps even USA will be voting for it. Refer Item #2 below. India will be very happy if we vote against but with “friends” like India we don’t need enemies.

    2. Abstain from voting.

Then Pakistan and China will also abstain from voting the next time when a resolution comes against Sri Lanka.

We must understand the enormous pressure poor countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Maldives, etc. had to endure from USA. Now USA will definitely punish them. They underwent this for us and we must stand by them.

What would have happened had they abstained from voting? Then resolution would have been defeated by a larger margin and there is no need to water it down because there would not be any opposition.

It was watered down it win over “on the fence” nations and encourage more countries to abstain from voting against it. If there wasn’t a sizeable opposition there is no need to water it down.

That means we would not be able to abstain from voting in the case of Kashmir in future.

    3. So the obvious choice is to vote in support of Pakistan and China on Kashmir which means voting to break up India.

It is important to tell India beforehand the dilemma Sri Lanka will be in because of India moving away from its principles. It forces Sri Lanka to vote against India the next time Kashmir comes up at UN or UNHRC. India should know this now itself so that it can have a plan ready to avoid it.

In this background, Sri Lanka’s warning to India is a very timely one. The other option is to wait till the resolution is actually presented and then struggle like a disorderly mental institution not knowing what to do.

A very good move by the government to forewarn India on Kashmir.

Please refer the next post for details on Kashmir situation.

Adopt resolution on HR abuses in Kashmir: JKLF ( R) to UN

Srinagar, Mar 20: The chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front ( R) Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bita Karatey has appealed to the United Nations to adopt a resolution in its forthcoming session on the human rights violations being perpetrated allegedly by the armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir for the last two decades.

In a statement today, the Front chairman alleged that, “under the cover of Disturbed Area Act, AFSPA and other laws, the armed forces committed excesses on hundreds of women, subjected thousands of youth to enforced disappearances, killed thousands others in custody and lodged thousands of youth in various jails in phased manner.”

Meanwhile, the Front chairman has expressed surprise over the “double standards” allegedly pursued by the mainstream politicians who raised voice against the excesses on Tamil people in Sri Lanka by the Lankan forces, “but always maintained studied silence over the human rights violations committed by the armed forces in Jammu Kashmir.”

    Item #2

The Wikileaks diplomatic cables have recently disclosed that Indian government employees agree to acts of human rights violations on part of the Indian armed forces and various paramilitary forces deployed in the north east parts of India especially Manipur. The violations have been carried out under the cover of this very act. Governor S.S. Sidhu admitted to the American Consul General in Kolkata, Henry Jardine, that the Assam Rifles in particular are perpetrators of violations in Manipur which the very same cables described as a state that appeared more of a colony and less of an Indian state.

Earlier leaks had also stated that International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) had reported to the United States diplomats in Delhi about the grave human rights situation in Kashmir which included the use of electrocution, beatings and sexual humiliation against hundreds of detainees. This act is in force in Kashmir since 1990.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armed_Forces_(Special_Powers)_Act,_1958

    Item #3

The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), was passed on September 11, 1958, by the Parliament of India. It conferred special powers upon armed forces in what the act calls “disturbed areas.
According to the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), in an area that is proclaimed as “disturbed”, an officer of the armed forces has powers to:

“Fire upon or otherwise use force, even to the causing of death, against any person who is acting in contravention of any law” against “assembly of five or more persons” or possession of deadly weapons.

To arrest without a warrant and with the use of “necessary” force anyone who has committed certain offenses or is suspected of having done so

To enter and search any premise in order to make such arrests.

It gives Army officers legal immunity for their actions. There can be no prosecution, suit or any other legal proceeding against anyone acting under that law. For declaring an area as a ‘disturbed area’ there must be a grave situation of law and order on the basis of which Governor/Administrator can form opinion that an area is in such a disturbed or dangerous condition that use of Armed Forces in aid of civil power is necessary .

The Act has been employed in the Indian administrated state of Jammu and Kashmir since 1990.

Honestly I am struggling to understand what the aspirations of Tamils are and how they are prevented by achieving those by the government. Everyone talks about these ‘aspirations’ but no one has put any meat on these claims. I think what needs to be done is to do some basic research. For example, following criteria should be looked at on a proportional basis (proportional to the population):

    1. Land ownership
    2. Employment – including public service.
    3. Wealth (value of property, businesses, etc)
    4. Educational achievements and access to education
    5. Laws targeted at specifically at Tamils preventing them from functioning as rest of the population.
    6. Those who are in detention, political prisoners.
    7. Travel – any restrictions placed on Tamils from travelling inland or overseas.
    8. Political freedom

I am sure we can think of more. If in most of these measures Tamils come up as a disadvantaged group (which I doubt very much) then the international community has a legitimate claim about suppression of the aspirations of Tamils. On the other had if anyone every talks about Tamil rights and their aspirations and how they are oppressed, all you have to do is to hold them by their neck and rub their face on the document. I think the government should take a concerted effort to get this objective information and then present it to international community and ask them the show where the discrimination is.
