Independent Committee to study PSC report on CJ – President
Posted on December 11th, 2012

Prsident Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said that he will appoint an independent committee to further study the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) report over the impeachment charges against the Chief Justice and a fair decision would be taken by him.

President Rajapaksa said that he should be satisfied with what he is doing in the long run.

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-I will appoint an independent committee to look into the PSC report further before any action is taken by meƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ , he said.

Speaking at the opening of a building complex of the Chartered Institute of Sri Lanka yesterday, President Rajapaksa said that he as a lawyer is against any move that would degrade the judiciary.

The President said that implementation of law should be impartial and accurate and those involved in misconduct and wrongdoing deserve to be punished.

He said that the Government always gives an ear to the complaints and the advice from the Opposition. He said that every institution should have a set of rules and no one can work beyond that legal framework.

President Rajapaksa recollected how a judge was removed from his position for criticizing the President. He said that this particular judge vacated his post respectfully, and he never dashed coconuts.
