Despite there being a computer based Railway Management System (RMS), which has been rendered dysfunctional owing to neglect, the Sri Lanka Railways (SLR) intends to undertake a separate Rs 8 million quoted feasibility study…… this month, with the hopes of creating a new computer based RMS.

The Train Traffic Optimisation System (TTOS), developed by former Research and Development Officer of the SLR, Anura Pushpakumara Kasthoori, had run for more than a year on the Colombo Fort-Matara line since its introduction in 2013. However, come 2015 and Kasthoori’s alleged forced retirement, the system had seen severe dilapidation due to the alleged sheer neglect and apathy of the SLR administration.

What we need is a computerised easily accessible grievance record of grievances of Railway workers to prevent frequent strikes  and an effective rail management system before anything else .You may have read a news item where Japanese Railway apologized to the commuters for laving a train 1-3 minutes before the scheduled time !.We should learn from this .

Our Railway system is badly managed since British left, Tracks need improvement ,engines need revamping and painting ,rail wagons are worse than toilets ( there is an article in the Island today hoe bad the Railway toilets  are )

If the train system is developed as in India we will not be using cars to go to work .

Railway Minister surely travelled in Indian Trains when he went to India on a Pooja and shaved his head and came back with a pitch black wig !

“Our Railway system is badly managed since British left,”.

Sarath, Sir John Koatalawala did a lot to improve our Railways and laid foundations for the future of our Railways.

Ratmalana Railway Workshop with associated facilities is the best example including the Basic Technical Training Institute.

Unfortunately all these were neglected after 1956.
