Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment questions the purpose of the protest, planned tomorrow

Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara has questioned if individuals participating in tomorrow’s (2) demonstration are joining the protest as the government brought an end to the era of queues.

The Minister speaking at a media briefing today (1) said the Cabinet of Ministers informally discussed the protest planned for tomorrow and questioned if individuals joining the protest were those who were attending after waiting in fuel or gas queues and having to endure more than 10-12 hours of power cuts with their children unable to study or businessmen unable to continue operations at factories.

Minister Nanayakkara added that prices of goods have reduced to a certain extent while fuel prices have also decreased while Sri Lanka has also begun receiving foreign exchange through various products.

>He questioned if protests are being planned as the country has gained a certain level of stability.

Minister Nanayakkara also noted that following discussions with the International Monetary Fund, a staff level agreement could be reached by the first week of December, while negotiations with creditors have already commenced while talks with Japan, China and India have been successful.
