Jaffna University Medical Student from Siyambalawewa arrested in Drug Trafficking Operation.

The Police Special Task Force apprehended a 23-year-old student enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at Jaffna University, who was allegedly involved in a drug trafficking racket utilizing the courier system.

The arrest took place during a raid conducted in the Kopai police domain on the 19th, where law enforcement authorities detained the student, a resident of Rambewa – Siyambalawewa area. The suspect, currently in his third year of medical studies, is now facing charges related to drug trafficking.

In addition to the arrest, authorities discovered 11 pills in the possession of the student. The Police Special Task Force is investigating the extent of the student’s involvement in the alleged drug trafficking network.

The arrest serves as a stark reminder of the prevalence of illicit activities even within educational institutions and the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement and academic authorities to maintain a safe and drug-free environment for students.
