Mr Kanchana Wijesekara.
Ministry of Power and Energy
No:72,
Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha,
Colombo 07.
Sri Lanka.

Dear Mr Wijesekara.

The purpose of this mail is not to discuss the tariff hike but to bring to your attention the neglect and unfair treatment we, the solar power generators (home installations), received after the price hike.

Tariffs have gone up exorbitantly, but your buyback rate still remains unchanged.

There was a discussion in parliament to increase it to Rs 37/- per unit from the current rate of Rs 22/-, but we are yet to see any work done on this issue.

We opted for solar installation for a few reasons, and they are:

  • To avoid the hassle of paying one more bill,
  • As an investment,
  • to reduce our carbon footprint.

But surely not to prop up another mismanaged state-owned enterprise.

To prove this fact, we received our buyback money for the amount we generated in October 2022; this was 6 months ago, and it proves how efficient this establishment is.

If the buyback rate can’t be increased immediately, the right formula to charge such households is to charge them based on their individual generation and consumption only.

Based on the final plus or minus factor, charge according to existing rates.

I am awaiting a favourable response.

Thanks.

Sasanka De Silva

Pannipitiya.
