INDIA SAYS SRI LANKA HAS NO PLANS TO PUT UP A MILITARY BASE AT KATCHATHEEVU ISLET

India has intimated that Sri Lanka does not have any plan to establish a military base in the island of katchatheevu .

 When Communist Party of India MP D. Raja raised the question in the India’s Upper House of the Parliament, the Rajya Sabha, Minister of External Affairs S. M. Krishna said new Delhi had been so told by Colombo.

 Krishna told Rajya Sabha that during the recent trip of Senior Advisor to the President Basil Rajapaksa, Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President , Lalith Weeratunga, the issue had been raised and the delegation said it did not contemplate putting up a military base at the islet between India and Sri Lanka , which was ceded to Sri Lanka in 1974.
