THREE UNDERWORLD FIGURES DIE IN A SHOOT OUT BETWEEN POLICE AND ALLEGED UNDERWORLD FIGURES IN CENTRAL COLOMBO

A shoot out between a notorious underworld group and the Special Task Force of the Police in the wee hours of yesterday killed the groupƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s leader and two other members in the capital city of Colombo.

STF sources said,the leader Faji and two of his accomplices Toji and Sadique were killed in the shoot out.

STF sources revealed the notorious criminals started shooting at the police when a safehouse of theirs was surrounded by the police for a search operation on a tip off at Jumma Road, Maligawatte. The shoot out occurred at 3.15 in the morning.

The Special Task Force of the Police who were successfully engaged against the LTTE terrorist activities have been now engaged to crush the growing number of underworld criminal gangs by the government.

The STF said the underworld gang started shooting at the police with a revolver and T56 rifles. The STF has outgunned them killing three.

A 9 Milimeter revolver, 2 T-56 rifles, five hand grenades and two mobile telephones have been taken into custody.

Insepector General of Police Jayantha Wickramaratne said the Police campaign against certain underworld criminals has been highly successful.

He also pledged the police will engaged themselves in eradicating the last under world figure from Sri Lanka. Weapons , possibly from the war with the LTTE and now reached notorious criminal gangs will be arrested, he said.
