The Editor (Letters)

Your editorial “ƒ”¹…”Canada’s refugee challenge’ which is dealing with the 76 Tamil illegal migrants, who were brought into Victoria Island in British Columbia, is skirting around the real problem.

What you have not pointed out is that the Canadian parliamentarians, especially those in the Opposition, have laid the foundation for these Tamils, and who knows there may be many more on their way to land in Canada,  having been vocal demanding that the Government bring over Sri Lanka’s northern Tamils who they alleged to have been subjected to “ƒ”¹…”genocide’ and “ƒ”¹…”rape’, etc.,  in the IDP welfare villages.  Read the February 4th Hansard, on the Emergency Debate on Sri Lanka, which will confirm to you what I have pointed out.

The Canadian media too has to take some responsibility as they let the Tamil demonstrators  on Parliament Hill in April and May spin their yarns, without once interviewing a member of the opposing camp (Sinhalese) to tell their story which would have provided a decent perspective of the Tamil demands and complaints as to why the Government should  not bring these Tamil people to Canada bypassing their homeland, Tamil Nadu in India, just 18 miles away from Sri Lanka’s coast where 62 million of their kith and kin live.

Your editorial asks “Does it matter how these migrants got here? Is paying $45,000 for transport”¦”  Yes, it does.  My question is who funded that $45,000 per person, and what was the contract which says how they should pay it back.  And was their a clause to tie them to be party to extortion of funds from Tamils already settled in Canada to keep their separate Tamil state Eelam  dream alive.

You say, “it seems perverse to punish people for being desperate”.  Yes, it seems perverse to punish people who in the first place were given the impression through parliamentary debate that Canada will be opening its doors to let them in.

I say to the Canadian parliamentarians, especially those in the Opposition, just be careful what you wish for.  Now that these people are at our door step let them in, and all other Tamils who land on our soil by hook or by crook having taken the cue that we will get them out of Sri Lanka.  Isn’t  that what you all said you wanted, perhaps with the selfish intention  to bolster your voter bank?  Be careful as to what you wish for!

One Response to “Canada’s Refugee challenge”

  1. SamArcher Says:

This appears to be the beginning of a series of LTTE terrorists arriving in LTTE friendly countries under the guise of “innocent boat people”. There are thousands of LTTE terrorists who have come here hoodwinking the authorities and many more LTTE terrorist supporters who have been sadly duped by the LTTE hardcore terrorits already living here believe in a dream that one day another Tamil Nadu (=country of the Tamils) will be carved out in Sri Lanka, which was to be named Thamil Eelam. Unfortunately some power hungry, selfish and selfserving politicians who have no idea as to what is really going on in Sri Lanka, but are inclined to benefit politically from this crisis also want to help themselves by “helping” these “boat people”. Earlier this year we saw first hand how these LTTE flag waving terrorists demonstrated in front of our parliament costing over $900,000 to the tax payers for the policing alone, and also blocked the Gardiner Way causing mayhem and bringing a taste of terrorism to the Torontonians here in the very community that was kind enough to admit them, feed them and look after their welfare. I sincerely hope our politicians, like the Aussi Prime Minister, will see the real intentions of these terrorists and nip it in the bud, rather than sacrifice the wellbeing of whole nation.
