Committee to consider the Administration of Justice in the Northern Province

A High powered Committee has been established immediate effect by the Minister of Justice and Law Reform Milinda Moragoda to consider reforms in to the Administration of Justice system in the Northern Province.

The Committee will be chaired by Hon. Justice Sripawan, Judge of the Supreme Court. The other members of the Committee are, Mr. Suhada Gamalath, Secretary, Ministry of Justice and Law Reform, Mrs. Malkanthi Wickramasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Constitutional Affairs, Mrs. Kamalini de Silva, Additional Secretary (Legal), Ministry of Justice and Law Reform, Mrs. S. Rahubadda, Additional Secretary (Admn.), Ministry of Justice and Law Reform, Prof. N. Shanmugalingam, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, Mr. M.P. de Silva, Acting Secretary, Judicial Service Commission, Mr. A. Gnanathasan, Deputy Solicitor General, Attorney-GeneralƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Department, Mr. W.A. Senaratne, Senior Assistant Secretary (Admn.), Ministry of Justice and Law Reform, Mr. V.R. de Silva, Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. K. Ganesh, District Secretary, Jaffna,Mr. Lalith Andrahannadi, Commissioner General of Community Based Corrections,Mr. M. Liyanage, Chief Accountant, Ministry of Justice and Law Reform, Ms. Nilanthi Fernando, Accountant (Supplies), Ministry of Justice and Law Reform.

The Committee will consider and recommend issues relating to the lacunas in the Administration of Justice system in the North where the system has been lagging behind due to the over 30 year conflict.

Committee to consider the Administration of Justice in the Northern Province shall consider providing infrastructure, staff, training for the staff where it is necessary, equipment and streamlining the other areas such as prisons, legal education, issues relating to indictments etc.
