It says ….. Every Muslim politician rose against the “injustice” with one voice … both ruling and opposition parties joined hands together …. Then, he expresses his dismay on the division among Buddhists and Buddhist politicians … none of whom supported their call “for distruction of innocent minority communities and their places of worship“. (words in red are mine)

He is right …. Majority among Buddhists are reasonable people as I always maintained. They will not support such in-human, extremist actions of a few Racist Minded Buddhists. Moreover, nowadays the whole international community is watching such events … and the criminals are exposed live around the world …. we heard the vulgar words of the monks who are supposed to set good example to people … This is disasterous for Buddhism as a whole … Slowly healing woulds of division due to the 30 year war has been exposed to bleed again …

Perhaps, this would have been swept under the carpet in the pre-internet & mobile technology era, but not now … Justice must be delivered. Majority doesn’t mean they can kill and destroy as they will if they find minorities are performing well. If Taliban destoryed a statue go and punish the Taliban … you cannot destroy our masjid. We are in a civilized wolrd now. Let us move out of the law of the Jungle era in to an era of Rule of Justice and Equality.

And it was a big relief to see finally the Muslims Prayed the Friday Prayer with the help of many good Buddhists among the security institutions, Politicians and the general public. The Dambulla Buddhist community has to be specially commended for their courageous defense of justice in favour of Muslims saying they are all witnesses to this mosque being there for the past 50 years as agisnt the lies of the ƒÆ’‚ ¶»ƒÆ’‚ ¶”…¡ƒÆ’‚ ¶ƒ…-ƒÆ’‚ ·”‘ƒÆ’‚ ¶»ƒÆ’‚ ·”‘ ƒÆ’‚ ¶¯ƒÆ’‚ ¶¹ƒÆ’‚ ·”‚ƒÆ’‚ ¶½ƒÆ’‚ ·”‚ ƒÆ’‚ ¶»ƒÆ’‚ ¶¢ƒÆ’‚ ¶¸ƒÆ’‚ ·”…¾ƒÆ’‚ · ƒÆ’‚ ·ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒÆ’‚ ·”‘ƒÆ’‚ ·”…¾ƒÆ’‚ ·ƒÆ’‚ ¶»ƒÆ’‚ ·ƒÆ’‚ ¶°ƒÆ’‚ ·”‘ƒÆ’‚ ¶´ƒÆ’‚ ¶ƒÆ’‚ ·”‘, ƒÆ’‚ ¶”‚°ƒÆ’‚ ¶±ƒÆ’‚ ·ƒÆ’‚ ¶¸ƒÆ’‚ ¶½ƒÆ’‚ ·”‚ƒÆ’‚ ·ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒÆ’‚ ·ƒ…‚¡ ƒÆ’‚ ·ƒ” -â„¢ƒÆ’‚ ·”‚ƒÆ’‚ ¶¸ƒÆ’‚ ¶”…¡ƒÆ’‚ ¶ƒ…-ƒÆ’‚ ¶½ thero the leader of this mob.

And it has now been proved that the mosque doesn’t come within the boudaries of the temple. As such this chapter has to be closed and all communities should march forward to develop the country by preventing such rogue elements from taking to such mean activities. Our country’s name has been tarnished by this indecency all around the world … Most of the masjids in the Arab world comdemned this act from the pupits in Friday sermons. So I hope our Buddhists will act wisely in the future in the interest of the nation and its poverty ridden population.

Let us concentrate on eradicating evils, the greatest of which is the liquor, gambling, pornography, siphoning of state funds etc … If we can get rid of these evils our nation’s >80% crimes will be eradicated overnight. Let us raise banners for these instead of destroying mosques and temples. Prosperity will come like the blooming of a flower … famlies will not be subjected to repeated beating by drunk fathers. Earned revenues can be put in to good use. Money lost in casinos and gambling dens can be use for buying milk foods for babies and education … Removal of brothels and pornography means assurance of a healthy society. Destroying places of worship doesn’t bring any benefit but confusion and mayhem. So don’t let a few crimnal elements destroy the peaceful co-existance of communities who have live in harmey for well over a thousand years. Our nation is known to the world as peaceful nation … don’t let these criminal elements change that picture … Let us share the wealth altogether and strive to uplift the nation altogether gving each one his own rights … as every citizen of a nation pays tax when he buys a kilo of sugar …. which funds the nations economy. The notion that only the Majority should enjoy the benfits of our tax money is not accepted in a civilized world. All should have equal rights as himan beings …

If you think Arab world didn’t give its people their rights, then, you show us you are better by acting differently… as we know “We harvest what grains we plant”. I do aknowledge that we have Muslim leaders who are paying subservience to the western and Jewish power and committing inormous injustice to its people in order to satisfy their hunger. But let us set the example to the world that we can live differently hand in hand which will sure bring prosperity to our beautiful land and dignity it in the international erena … Our nation’s beauty is natural and historical. As none can deny Muslims throughout have been well respected even among the ancient kings .. for their genuinity and sincerity …. Even in the past times Muslims were the most trusted and well respected until such racist elements rose up in the late 50’s.

I have witnessed the respect my father commanded among the Buddhists in our village. Politicains of all inclinations vistied him. One thing I find out later was that the politicians themselves had discomfort to being together because of their different caste status. They felt very comfortable being with us sharing meals together. They all recognized the respect we give all Buddhists immaterial of what caste they belonged to. Our home used to be hub of peaceful co-existance between different ethnicity. In fact I have a rare picture of my father along with his two elder brothers taken around 1950 when D.S. was the Prime Minister … This picture was taken in front of our Shop with FOUR PM’s and Presidents of our country … DS, SWRD, Dahanayaka & JR … The crowd includes several dignitories … along with villagers … The point I am trying to make is the position we Muslims have earned among the Buddhists has to be recognized beyond any racist divide. Jealousy and hatred should never be allowed to raised its monterous head. Had the villagers thought like some Buddhists think today they would never have affroded the honour to my father as they did. These are always governed by give & take principle … Our father helped everyone alike for which they gave back their love and respect for my father …

On the contrary if the Buddhsits behave as some of them do now … those poor masses have a lot to lose. So please think about it ….Sorry for writing such a long episode and respond with wisdom.

    Niyas Abbas:

It is you talk about a modern world and remind us how the caste differences made your family a respectable family in that area.

It is you talk about rule and justice. Forget how the muslims behave all over the world. Just think, how stronger sects of muslims in Sri Lanka treat weaker sects of muslims in Sri Lanka.

You talk about equality. when your mother, grand mother, wife, sisters, daughters are all women why they have to cover every where of the body and why they are second class to men ?

Why you consider that animals are there for your to kill and eat. Most of the animal industry in Sri Lanka is run by you people. We buddhists don’t like those. What do you say about that ?

Instead of threatning buddhists, understand that some Muslims are one group that has threatened Buddhists existence.

    Anud ,
You must be day dreaming. We are not talking about Middle East. We are talking about Sri Lanka, a Buddhist country where we accept co-existence of other religions and beliefs. I have never heard of Muslim conversions in Sri Lanka. But it is common in England. Muslim- Sinhala intermarriages are common also. If the wife is from the Muslim community, the children naturally becomes Buddhists. If you are Buddhist, you should be aware of “elements of harmlessness” Avihesa-dhatu which is an elementary quality of noble thought. That exactly what you have to develop, instead of writing hate notes against Muslims in Sri Lanka.

    Neela Mahayoda:

I am day dreaming and you are living in another world.

Search and see how Islam has carried out conversions. That is outside the inter- racial marrieges. Do we know that how many comes out. There is one youtube clip about converting a Buddhist monk.

We are for co-existing. But, they are not for that. Now, extremist Islamist sections encroaching into countries , remember your philosophy will not work. Because they work according to their ideology. So, finally, as it won’t be you, some of your descendants will have to surrender.

You can preach Buddhism. But, the real world outside very different. You know how strong is your Buddhist way of working when you are outside.

I guess we all know that “empty vessels make lot of noise”!

  5. Lorenzo Says:

Muslim barbaric mobs took the law into their hands in Puttlam over a mythical “grease devil” and killed a Sinhala policeman.

Now Buddhist mobs took the law into their hands in Dambulla over a mosques and destroyed it.

Same thing except the fisrt incident is MORE barbaric than the second incident.

Either BOTH stop or nothing stops!

Condemn one for the other to be condemned.

If Abbas is not condemning the Puttlam incident, there is NO NEED to condemn the Dambulla incident.

Don’t call the dog a pig just to eat it. Be fair by BOTH episodes. Otherwise you are fooling yourself and people won’t be fooled.

If Muslims take law into their hands in Puttlam non-Muslims WILL take law into their hands in Dambulla, etc. STOP BOTH or stop NONE.

  6. lee Says:

Pl remember no religion is forced to accept and the no body forced Buddhist monk to embrace Islam, they are once who read the QURAN and Accept ISLAM and no body has a say on that since its a basic Human right! and no body needs to fear of any religion if they are sure of there religion is practiced as per the BOOK,

All what we need is PEACE and Harmony, what has happened here is some folks talk from their HAT and do not even know a single chapter properly from their respective religion,

  7. Dham Says:

Only the Buddhist can comment on behaviour of the “men in yellow robes”. Muslims cannot comment and ask them to behave according to Buddha Dhamma, because that is not their faith. According to Buddha Dhamma Allah and mohamed all will rot in hell because of the animal killing they carry out. So, they should keep quite on this issue.
