Subramaniam Swamy Tries to Impose Indian Hegemony on Lanka

Dilrook Kannangara

Subramaniam Swamy may be the only sensible Indian politician but he still falls short of making complete sense. Self-contradicting politicians are nothing new to the island nation.

Speaking at the Defence Seminar 2012, he has made a proposal for reconciliation. Firstly Sri Lankans donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t want any more Indian prescriptions. He can keep his proposals to himself. While accepting that Sri Lankans need no outside interference which includes outsidersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ solutions, he contradicts himself by making such proposals. He talks about the Sinhala majority and the Tamil minority. This Indian mentality of ethnic divisions does not suit Sri Lanka. There are no ethnic majorities and minorities in Sri Lanka. Hence no need for ethnicity based decisions or solutions. Further, what about the Muslims? They are a distinct ethnic group that is neither Sinhala nor Tamil. Is Subramaniam Swamy trying to impose the age old ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Tamil speakingƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ nonsense?

Any reconciliation model must be acceptable to those who love Sri Lanka and those who want Sri Lanka to follow a political mechanism that is devoid of ethnic enclaves and ethnicity based decisions that go against equity.

Firstly there is no need for any further political solutions. Incremental changes to what happens at grassroots level are sufficient for any problem. Tamil specific grievances and aspirations must not be resolved before resolving the grievances and aspirations of all Sri Lankans. These include unemployment, corruption, poverty, malnutrition, etc. These must be first resolved completely before trying to resolve Tamil (only) grievances and aspirations.

He assumes there is wide acceptability of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-13+ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ amendment. Absurd! There is no acceptability at all of the 13the Amendment, let alone ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-13+ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. Indian imposed and failed 13A must be repealed from the Constitution. A fresh look at decentralized governance can take place only after discarding the old and the irrelevant.

Then he moves to very dangerous territory. He states: ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Sri Lanka by a Constitutional Amendment will become a Union of StatesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. This is worse than 13A. Of the Unions of States that were functional 30 years ago, only the Indian union has survived; still with dozens of separatist movements. Soviet Union, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia have all collapsed. It is a matter of time since the Indian union of states collapsed into ethnic enclaves. Sri Lanka must not follow this disaster.

It gets worse from there. The Indian interferer goes further: ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-the Head of the state or provincial government will have primary responsibility to maintain public order through a state police constituted for this purpose.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ No provincial government should have any responsibility to maintain public order. If Tamil race based political parties are given police powers it will be much worse than the LTTE. At least LTTE couldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t get legality in carrying arms and using against regional minorities but TNA or SLMC dominated provincial administrations will not only have legal rights for ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-policingƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ but will also raise a Gestapo against regional minorities.

The Sri Lankan state must not be secular. Buddhism must always remain at the helm in its supreme place. No other religion should be given a comparable place. Sri Lanka is not ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-culturally BuddhistƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. It is politically, morally, ideologically and philosophically Buddhist and thatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s how it must remain. Then he tries to impose his Hindu ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-GodƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ beliefs which is rather hilarious in a Buddhist country where practices of the teachings, not idols including gods, matter.

Next he says the proximity between Sinhalese and Tamils must be reduced. A good proposal at the face of it but he refuses ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-coercion and state initiativesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ which makes his proposal racially discriminatory. Historically Tamils have never allowed Sinhalese or Muslims to live in Tamil majority areas. Over 20,000 Sinhalese and 75,000 Muslims chased away from Jaffna arenƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t resettled yet because Tamils are vehemently against it. All previous successful efforts of bringing ethnic integration in the north and the east happened with state coercion and initiatives. As long as highly discriminatory Thesawalamei Law exists, there is no chance for ethnic integration in the north. It positively prevents non-Tamils from buying property in the Jaffna peninsula. Under this Dutch imposed Kerala (Malabar) law, a seller of property in the north must allow pre-emptive rights to the neighbours of the property to purchase it. Since Jaffna peninsula is 100% Tamil only, only Tamils have this pre-emptive right! This must be repealed immediately and state sponsored multiethnic settlements must be created in the north.

The best India can do for its little neighbour is to keep out of its affairs. The first step is to help Sri Lanka repeal the Indian imposed 13A. Only after gaining trust of Sri Lankans can India participate in any political process with the concurrence of the people. As long as the ugly shadows of 13A loom over the island and as long as India refuses to denounce its bloody role at the UNHRC 2012 summit, Indians and Indian solutions will not be trusted by Sri Lankans.

According to Subramaniam Swamy’s philosophy Sri Lanka should be a part of India. This where all his commiserations come from. Once the fundamental is known all his thinking, sayings and doings fall into place. He may be against the LTTE and that is because he as an intelligent man knew that a victory for the LTTE would have led to the destabilisation, balkanisation and eventual subjugation of the people of India to Neo Colonialism of the Christian West.

He is an Indian Supremacist and we have to tell him that Sri Lanka has been a different geographical and political entity since time immemorial and has never been a part of India and will never be in the future either.

And as Dilrook quite rightly says Sri Lanka is politically, morally, ideologically and philosophically Buddhist and that’s how it must remain.

  2. Dilrook Says:

One being against the LTTE is not a consideration at all in the post-LTTE era. Many peaceful separatists were against the LTTE but support Tamil Elam.

Even Jayalalitha was against the LTTE. Now she is the biggest threat to Sri Lanka. Sonia was against the LTTE but now she is a threat to Sri Lanka. Same with FBI and CIA experts who were quick to identify LTTE as the most ruthless terrorist organisation but still support the division of the country.

Agree with Ratanapala on the Indian philosophy on Lanka and their bigoted assumptions.

Sofar Sinhalese are unable to start a process of reconciliation or any process to find a lasting peace. Why? You guys are barking at others when they suggest something. At the sametime you have no idea for reconciliation.

  4. mario_perera Says:

‘Reconciliation’ is a concept of Christian ideology. Just consider the Catholic confessional. The sinner confesses his ‘sin’, then receives his absolution, performs the symbolic penance the priest imposes and then, lo and behold ‘God and sinner are reconciled’. In our context, God is represented by the white supremacist power block. The sinner is Sri Lanka. The victim of Sri Lanka’s sin is the Tamil community. SL must confess to its wrong doing, the representatives of God (the mighty whites) pronounce absolution, then impose their penance. SL accepts with bowed head, and reconciliation is complete. What nonsense. What a hilarious comedy, a script written by jokers for jokers.
We are presented with the South African case as a model of reconciliation. Mandela, Tutu and company rigged up the drama for the pleasure of the ‘International Community’ (a few white countries). De Klerk the final apartheid perpetrator refused to join the reconciliation band wagon (he said he confesses directly to God!). Without the final perpetrator the South African ‘reconciliation process’ was made to look like ‘Hamlet without the prince’! In short the model was a wash out from the onset. And several years after, what has happened? The stage has collapsed in South Africa with racism is as rampant as ever. The joke has turned out to bad ‘bad joke’. Even Tutu is whining at its failure. His rainbow society never materialized. De Klerk is proclaiming his self righteousness, and is fuming. ‘Reconciliation’ was just a drama acted out for the pleasure of the power blocks that wrote out the script. To that extent our LLRC was a farce.
To quote Dilrook : “Sri Lanka is politically, morally, ideologically and philosophically Buddhist and that’s how it must remain”. No need to erect public Christian inspired confessionals to confess sins of their fabrication for their listening pleasure. The majority and minority communities of this country have lived together for tens of centuries, and will continue to do so without having to dance to the tunes of foreign bands. A man does not have to confess and reconcile with his bad dreams to carry on with life.

    Mario:

    Beautifully put it.

That is something that didn’t occur to me despite the my recent reconciliation (the sacrament).

So western Christian nations have ridiculed Sri Lankans who don’t seems to quite understand the context within which they use the word reconciliation. By agreeing to reconciliation, Sri Lanka admits to have “sinned” and begs for forgiveness at the feet of western almighty gods! This is outrageous. For what I don’t understand.

Our LLRC is indeed a farce and a disgrace.

The word reconciliation must be dropped in favour of the word integration.

  7. M.S.MUDALI Says:

    Mario:
LLRC is a product of Sri Lanka and not of others. So, your barkings about CHRISTIAN or other issues are useless. Reconciliation is an ENGLISH word. It has its own meaning. Mario and his Christian clans may use it to fool others. I think Mario tries to tell SL government created LLRC to fool the WEST.

LLRC was created when the WEST threaten with talks of WAR CRIMES but India told “let the Sri Lankans to find a solution”.

If LLRC is a FARCE and government refuse to implement its own findings, then more troubles there to come!

  8. Fran Diaz Says:

Most of Lanka’s troubles are due to some 500 yrs of Colonial rule leaving behind a vast number of Tamil indentured labor brought in by the British & the Dutch to a lesser extent. This ethnic imbalance has created a feeling among Tamil leaders (Vellala) that Sri Lanka is up for grabs, and Tamil unity can be reclaimed healing caste/poverty wounds of 3,000 yrs. by taking
over the North & East of Sri Lanka for Tamils only. Then Vellalas can rule on a forever basis too. However, their best laid plans went awry as it was not aligned with the forces of Truth/God/Allah (same as the Third Reich of Hitler).

Sri Lanka was forced to go to war against a ruthless terrorist group, the ltte. Why should Sri Lanka be apologetic ? It was that war was necessary to stop this killer group, trained by various parties for the division of Sri Lanka.

The Lessons Learnt are many. The first and most important is that Sri Lankans must think for themselves, identify their own problems and find their own solutions to problems. That way we have lasting solutions, communal harmony, peace and prosperity for all. We can let others talk, but the solutions must be our own. Solutions to problems of ordinary people could be deemed to be the most important. Form small committees at District Level to identify the problems of a particular area, and present the LIST OF NEEDS to the MPs of those areas.

Since Sri Lanka is small country, we do not need concerned others here to advice us, unless GoSL specifically requests such advice. Re our Neighboring countries, we should not get involved in Tamil Nadu problems. Tamil Nadu has enough Resources to look after all her people. Also, the Maldivian government should look to Indonesia and other Muslim countries in case the Maldives go under sea water due to Global Warming. Our coastline must be guarded against Illegal Migrants. For this purpose permanent garrisons of security personnel should be established on a permanent basis, and this need written into our Constitution.

  9. M.S.MUDALI Says:

    Fran:
Can you mentions some VELLALA Tamil leaders if you know any one?

Colonial rule left Christians and catholics too. They are the most of the trouble makers than the Tamils who work in the Tea estates. Can you tell why Catholic Church and Anglican Ranil backed LTTE terrorists?

  10. Fran Diaz Says:

    Mudali,

I don’t KNOW any Tamil leaders, let alone Vellala Tamil leaders. But almost all Tamil leaders who gave trouble to Sri Lanka are
Vellala Tamils. It’s the Caste base, always, when it comes to the North. They became Christians and Catholic, whatever was/is more gainful re politics, power, education, jobs, travel, etc. When it comes to east vs west, or -ism vs. -ism, all churches become one.

Ltte leaders too ran/runs with whatever is gainful.

You know all this, don’t you ? Why ask ?

  11. Fran Diaz Says:

    Mudali,

Have your Tamil groups ever considered Eelam in Tamil Nadu ? The Nilgiri Mts. are just waiting for such a move. There is nothing Sri Lanka can offer Tamils that Tamil Nadu Nilgiris cannot offer, with more.

  12. lingamAndy Says:

    Fran Diaz
Tamil Nadu mean Thamil country ?
Tamil leaders who gave trouble to Sri Lanka are- Agrred even Doucles wants 13A !
eg: Tamil Nadu is a unit in diversity !!! even India want to divide (like USSR) Tamil Nadhu will be against it because they know very well unit in diversity is best for all of them ( security , economic etc…)!

Why can not copy same solution to us to unit forever !!!

  13. M.S.MUDALI Says:

    Fran:
You have no clue about anything you bark. Try to know anything in detail. You just vomit the Church propaganda. You or any other Sinhalese never explain why Ranil and his UNP backed LTTE with millions of rupees.

You guys simply bark at Tamils and India to hide the real “love affairs” UNP and the catholic church have with LTTE.

  14. Fran Diaz Says:

    Dear Mudali,

Don’t lose your cool when truth is told. Keep your hat on ! You see the 13-A as the solution to all problems. We simply cannot see 13-A as a solution. 13-A was and is the starting point to all Sri Lanka problems, after to 500 yrs of Colonial Rule.

Why can’t Eelam be formed in the Tamil Nadu Nilgiri Mountains ? The Mountains are just calling for Tamil Eelam there. Best solution to all problems. Don’t bark up the wrong tree, just stick with the plain truth and all is well.

Our slogan is “Tamil Eelam in the Nigiris of Tamil Nadu”. Best and most peaceful solution to Tamil Aspirations, in a most salubrious setting too.

    We close our case.
