Your Majesty–Are you aware that UK MPs openly support LTTE terrorist fronts GTF/BTF?
Posted on March 5th, 2013

Shenali WadugeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

There are times that one wonders whether organizations get banned in order to give them more notoriety and lever their campaign agendas? Such is the case with the LTTE proscribed by the UK Government under the Terrorism Act of 2000. Inspite of the UK ban, LTTE has continued to openly run its international headquarters from London, LTTEƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s theoretician and wife lived in UK and openly conducted terrorist affairs, UK allowed demonstrations, events that eulogized suicide terrorism listened to by British MPs on top of LTTE stages, UKƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s television is spearheading the anti-Sri Lanka campaign through its channel 4 and UK is allowing its own Parliament to hold events of LTTE front organizations created to continue LTTEƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s fundraising and tarnishing activity. Need we say more for Her MajestyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Government to feel ashamed? Can the Sri Lankan populace be blamed for wondering if British patronage for these terrorist fronts prevail?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Right from the inception of the LTTE, its theoretician Anton Balasingham and nurse-wife Australian Adele lived and functioned from the UK ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…”its international headquarters masquerading under the name British Tamil Association. Adele trained Tamil children as child combatants and presented each with a cyanide capsule with instructions to commit suicide if caught. Why has there been no charges filed against Adele Balasingham for these criminal offences against children?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ LTTE was banned on 28 February 2001.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Human Rights Watch published ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Funding the final war ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” LTTE intimidation and extortion in the Tamil Diaspora, a case study of UK and CanadaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. HRW gives details of how LTTE fronts extort money in the range of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£2000 to ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£100,000 from Tamil families and businesses. Subramaniam Sivakumar, a Tamil businessman operating a grocery (Apna Bazaar) in North West London was killed on 5 January 2006 for not making regular payments. Tamil gang violence resulted in the stabbing to death of a Tamil on 16 February 2006 at McDonalds, Tooting. In 2005, 16 killings were reported involving Sri Lankan Tamils.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ HRWƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s report also highlighted the British Hindu kovils that provide another revenue for the LTTE. Sivayogam Temple in Tooting is under investigation for possibly sending explosives in the guise of humanitarian assistance after 2004 tsunami. Sivayogam kovil also sponsored the boat yard in Sampoor which was for LTTE suicide squad. Annual remittances from the UK from extortion and other illegal businesses is said to be in the range of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£10 million. What has the UK Government done about these?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ UK Government is also questioned in the manner it allows open public events inspite of the 2001 ban. LTTE holds 2 such events annually ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” on 27 November 2005 the 50th birthday of LTTE leader was commemorated at Wembley Arena amidst a gathering of 5000 Tamils with entrance tickets priced at ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£35 per head. On 25 July 2006 LTTE organized Black July rally at Hyde Park with permission obtained from Royal Parks Policy by Labour Councillors Sashikala and Eliza Packiadevi who form the British Tamil Councillors and Associates. There was a 20ft cut out of Prabakaran organized by the Tamil Youth Organization. Attending the event were Harrow Councillor Thaya Idaikaddar who is closely associated with Gareth Thomas MP.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ While the UK Metropolitan Police is well aware of LTTE activities it prefers to use shortage of staff as a lame excuse for inaction.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The only arrests and charges filed since 2001 number a handful insignificant in comparison to the more than 300,000 Tamils that now live in the UK and the LTTE front organizations and teams that operate from the UK. In June 2007, the founder of BTA, KrishanthakumarƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ aliasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Shanthan was arrested byƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Metropolitan Police Service. In April 2009, he was found guilty of supplying bomb-making equipment for the LTTE and receiving documents for the purpose of terrorism. Goldan Lambert (29 yrs), Head of Finance of the BTA was also arrested in connection with the Black July rally organized by the TYO in 2006 in Hyde Park, London.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Interestingly, they have been arrested under Section 12 (3) which refers to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-support for a proscribed organisationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ (i.e in terms of speeches made at the Black July rally) and Sections 2 & 6 which refers to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-providing material support for a proscribed organisationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ (i.e in terms of financial support/fundraising etc). How many UK MPs and the LTTE front organizers would fall into this category? Why have they not been arrested and taken for questioning? Instead the BTF organizes a photo exhibition in the British Parliament in 2008 (16 July) attended by MPs of all partys, Members of theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ House of Lords, Former Cabinet Ministers, Mayors, Councillors, University students, and representatives of international & UK organisations. Some of the attendees included three MPs of theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Tamil National AllianceƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ – Ms Padmini Sithamparanathan MP, Jayananthamoorthi MP and Gagendran MP, Labour PartyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ MPsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Joan Ryan MP,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Virendra Sharma MP,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Keith Vaz MP,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Andy Love MPƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Lord Waddington QCƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Conservative Party. It was hailed byƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Neil Gerrard MPƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as “making a clear case forƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ self-determination” and as a final note,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Barry Gardiner MPƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ wrote of the exhibition “We Build a Nation.”

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Can the UK Government blame us in Sri Lanka for wondering whether the UK is actually assisting these organizations to separate Sri Lanka?

How can organizations like BTF/GTF with links to terrorists be given VIP treatment and be allowed to lobby in the halls of the UN and amongst Parliamentarians ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” what explanation can Western Governments give to us?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ When the War on Terror became the slogan after 9/11 LTTE quickly changed strategies and in order to circumvent legal hassles brought by proscription of the LTTE it rechristened its groups as NGOs and humanitarian organizations. Thus, the emergence of Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), White Pigeon, the World Tamil Movement (WTM), the Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC), the British Tamil Association (BTA) and the British Tamil Forum(BTF), Tamil Youth Organization (TYO), and International Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (ITRO registered immediate after TRO was delisted).

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ TRO was banned in the UK but not before it transferred its funds to White Pigeon which is also facing ongoing investigations. One of the trustees of TRO, UK, N. Sathyamoorthy is a director of ITRO, which shows the clear link between the two. Prominent LTTE supporters, (Tamil Labour councillors) Daya Ida Kadar, Miss Elizabeth Mann play an active role in organizing LTTE events in UK under the BTF banner. The BTFƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s involvement with European Parliamentarians such as MEP Robert Evans, has also been exposed.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Tamil Refugee Action Group even got a British National Lottery grant of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£78,450 pounds on 2nd December 1998. Tamil Refugee Education and Training Centre received a British National Lottery grant of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚£155,484 pounds, on 4th March 1999. TRO has since 1995 raised 2.5 million pounds which has gone to LTTE tax free, under the guise of “rehabilitation work”. TRO has no staff costs because they work for other charities and receive salaries courtesy of the British tax payer which amounted to 1.5million pounds. Is the UK authorities not bothered, is this not defrauding the British Treasury and Her MajestyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Inland Revenue?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ With all these millions supposedly being sent for ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-TamilsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ why is it that absolutely nothing but sophisticated bunkers prevailed when the Sri Lankan troops finally took over the North? In reality there was nothing that gave evidence of the work done by other INGOs/NGOs stationed for so many years in the North either. In comparison anyone visiting the North can see for themselves the enormous changes visible at every level ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” infrastructure, housing, electricity, education etc in just 4 years.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The two leading LTTE front organizations are the BTF and the GTF. Additionally there is the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils (APPG-T). The Chair is Lee Scott MP, Ilford North while Siobhain McDonough MP Mitcham and Morden is Vice Chair. MP Robert Halfon (Treasurer and Secretary)

Both BTF and GTF were launched in the UK. BTF in 2006 while GTF was launched on 24 February 2010 at the UK House of Commons in the presence of the then British Foreign Secretary David Miliband despite protests by the GOSL GTF is led by 75 year old Catholic priest Father S J Emmanual ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” what kind of priest would visit LTTE training centers teaching children how to kill? The GTFƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s choice of venue was no happenstance. The February 24th conference had the blessings of the entire British political establishment and of the US government. Even British Prime Minster Gordon Brown met with representatives of the GTF.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Conservative ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-shadowƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ foreign secretary William Hague, and his Liberal Democrat counterpart, Ed Davery, addressed the GTF conference. Conservative Party leader David Cameron and Robert Blake, the current US Secretary of State for South and Central Asia and a former US ambassador to Sri Lanka, sent greetings. Reverend Jesse Jackson, who was introduced as ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-President ObamaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s friend,ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ gave a speech welcoming the GTFƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s founding. Is this not imperialistic patronage at its best?

The examples of UK MPs links to LTTE and its front organizations is worthy of mention:

  • 13 January 2010 – Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Keith Simpson addresses British Tamil Conservatives at a fundraising dinner at The Barn Hotel in Harrow for Dr. Rachel Joyce, PPC for Harrow West. Hon. Nick Hurd, MP (Shadow Minster of Charities, Social Enterprise and Volunteering), Mr David Ashton, Councillor and Leader of the Council, Jean Lammiman, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community, Richard Almond, Volunteer Coordinator for Harrow West and Golsie Simms, Council Candidate for Roxeth.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¨, Ansela Peterpillai, Council Candidate for Roxeth also attended.
  • 27 October 2010 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Siobhain McDonagh MP calls for the UK to take action against Sri Lanka. Hansard transcript ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201011/cmhansrd/cm101027/debtext/101027-0001.htm#10102752000011

Douglas Alexander MP (British Shadow Foreign Secretary) calls for an international commission on inquiry into war crimes against Sri Lanka speaking at a Tamils for Labor event at the Labour Party Conference because there were ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-profound concernsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ regarding the LLRC.
  • September 19. 2012 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Gareth Thomas MP for Harrow West makes an emergency ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Point of OrderƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ speech in the House of Commons raising concerns about the Human Rights Watch report about Tamil asylum seekers deported from UK and being tortured in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has no qualms about UK keeping all Tamils in the UK if that pleases all parties.
  • 17 January 2013 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Lee Scott MP calls for ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”justice for Tamil peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ through the Ilford Recorder a widely circulated newspaper in London. Incidentally he is the Chairman of the APPGT so his comments were nothing to be surprised over.
  • 41 British MPs wrote to PM Cameron in 2011 no sooner the UN Panel of Experts released its report calling for an independent, international inquiry against Sri Lanka. Below are these MPs. Notice how the same names associated with LTTE front organizations.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Another example of UK allowing terrorist conferences is the permission given to hold the World Tamil Conference on 10 November 2012 at the British House of Parliament.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Conference was attended by leaders and party members of Tamil Nadu political parties, TNA MPs, members of Tamil National PeopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Front, Members of Tamil Civil Society and Tamil Diaspora organizations as well as human rights activists and UK parliamentarians. Labour MPs speaking at the event were Jeremy Corbyn urged the international community to recognize TamilƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s aspirations and their right to self-determination in Sri Lanka.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Also present were Siobhain McDonagh, Mike Gapes, Barry Gardiner, Seema Malhotra, Stella Creasy, Kate Green while Garath Thomas urged to set up international independent inquiries. Conservative MPs were Steve Baker, Steve Brine, Bob Blackman, Alok Sharma, Stephen Hammond, Mike Freer, Nick de Bois, Iain Stewart, Lord Popat of Harrow. Liberal Democrat MPs Tom Brake also attended.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Tamil Nadu politicians attending were : M.K. Stalin, Mr. Rathakrishnan, Illankovan and T.R.Balu of Dravida Munnetra Kalakam, D.K. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Tamil National Alliance MPs – Mavai Senathirajah, Suresh Premachandran, Sritharan and Yokesvaran and Former MP and the General Secretary of the Tamil National People Front Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC), Global Tamil ForumƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  (GTF), La Maison du Tamil Eelam ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” (France), Norwegian Council of Eezham Tamils, Tamils Against Genocide (TAG) Tamils Centre for Human Rights (France), Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam, Tamil Youth Organisation UK (TYO UK) and United States Tamil Political Action Council (USTPAC) participated on behalf of the Tamil Diaspora organisations.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ MP Robert Halfon (Treasurer and Secretary APPG-T) condemned the international community for not recognizing the genocide of Tamils at the World Tamil Conference in 2012. Liberal Democrat MP and the Vice Chairman of the APPGT Mr. Simon Hughes speaking at the same event accused the Sri Lankan government for committing serious war crimes during the final war.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Mr. Alfred Robert ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” senior member of BTF mobilization team handed over a memorandum to the UK Foreign Secretary Rt.Hon William Hague highlighting situation in Sri Lanka

The Resolution adopted by World Tamil Conference 2012 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” is it surprising these are just what the Western Governments are also calling for?

1.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Take immediate steps to create for free flow of information that would bring to light the ground realities prevailing in the North and East of the Island of Sri Lanka.

2.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  To stop decimation of the Tamil Nation by the Sri Lankan State.

3.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  To stop Sinhalisation of the Tamil traditional Homeland.

4.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  To demilitarise the Tamil PeopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Homeland of the people to exercise their democratic rights free from fear of persecution.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ While the Vote of thanks was delivered by Rt. Hon Joan Ryan, Policy Advisor, GTF.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Please take a close look at all those who have being associated with the tarnishing campaign against Sri Lanka, connect with their statements against the GOSL to understand the bias that should now be clearly visible. Both GTF/BTF have proven direct links to the LTTE. The links of LTTE front organizations is evident in the Joint Statement issued on 7 March 2012 by the British Tamils Forum (BTF), Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the Organization that gave 50,000 to Amnesty International), Tamil Youth Organization UK (TYO UK) and US Tamil Political Action CouncilƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ (USTPAC). Are people seriously ready to accept statements from organizations that are linked to LTTE terrorism?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Moreover there are reasons why UK Channel 4ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s documentaries on Sri Lanka are claimed to be baseless and tarnishing campaigns only. The Sri Lanka Killing Fields screened in 2011, then the 14 March 2012 sequel War Crimes Unpunished and now the latest ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-No Fire ZoneƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ have been nothing but allegations without proof. Moreover, when the producer is guest at pro-LTTE events it leaves little to the imagination on his bias.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Meanwhile, the second US-backed Resolution against Sri Lanka harps on the lack of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-paceƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ in the accountability and the implementation of the LLRC recommendations. Though recommendations does not equate to mean a sovereign Government is bound to follow through on all the recommendations made and no foreign nation has any right to insist on what should be implemented. Moreover, the LLRC was openly denounced by HRW, Amnesty International said on 9th September 2011 that ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-the inquiry is flawed at every leve: in mandate, composition and practice, the Tamil National Alliance, BTF, APPGT said the LLRC failed to address issues related to international humanitarian laws or accountability, The Elders claimed the LLRC is ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-not nearly enoughƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. While in a joint letter on 14 October 2010, the International Crisis Group, HRW and Amnesty International declined to even appear before the LLRC but now these very groups and organizations are backing the US-backed Resolution which bases its clauses on the LLRC.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Yet, inspite of this long list of UK MPs showing open disregard for their own proscription of the LTTE there is a handful of men who have gone against the tide. At the recently concluded UK Parliamentary debate on 8 January 2013, Ian Paisely Jnr, the Northern Ireland Parliamentarian for North Antrim from the Democratic Unionist Party was supported by Conservative Party MPs James Wharton from Stockton South and Aiden Burley from Cannock Chase.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Ian Paisely Jnr goes on to say that after visiting Sri Lanka it worried him about the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-misinformationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ and said that ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Most of the 300,000 internally displaced persons have now been resettled. I visited Menik farm, one of the welfare camps set up to house the huge numbers of people displaced by conflict in January of last year. There were about 6,000 people left, and the camp has now closed and the people have gone home.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ They have been able to do so because demining operations have proceeded at an amazing pace, with more than 900,000 mines and unexploded ordnance having been cleared,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ primarily by the Sri Lankan armyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦. More than 120,000 houses have been constructed in the north and the east, nearly 600 child soldiers have been rehabilitated and more than 10,000 adult combatants have been rehabilitated or reintegrated into Sri Lankan society. Some 900 Tamil speakers have been recruited into the police force in the north and east, and that is important in building trust in a community that does not have historic trust in its Government and the organisations that represent it.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Whilst Conservative MP Aiden Burley, giving further details of his 8 day trip to Sri Lanka says that he strongly believed that only those who had first-hand experience, seeing things with their own eyes and forming their own impressions rather than just watching a Channel 4 documentary could speak about Sri Lanka and advised Siobhain McDonagh to go to Sri Lanka and speak to the people of Sri Lanka, not to the people of Mitcham and Morden, and listen to what they have to say. He goes on to say

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-I have visited Jaffna, the most disputed part of Sri Lanka in the north. There I saw new housing settlements, with Tamils living in them. I had tea with some of those families, whose interests are fishing and farming. They did not talk to me about the past, even though they had opportunity to do so. Indeed, when I raised the pastƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬‚I was with them on my ownƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬‚they wanted to talk about their future, their children and their new housing settlements, which were supported by money given by our country through the EU to help rebuild their country. They wanted to talk about moving forward. I have met both Tamil and Sinhalese families, and their united wish was to present a picture of hope for their country, not a picture of division. It was a community that wanted to move forward. They did not want to hear the international community talking about what happened in the past; they wanted the international community to help them to move to a better futureƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦..He (Sambanthan) did not raise with me the issue of the disappeared; he did not take time to raise with me the issue of war crimes; he did not take time to talk about routine torture, in his country, of his people.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He had a politician with him from this nation and he did not want to talk about those things. Leaving aside the Resolution the issue at hand is that if there is a War on Terror complimented by nations introducing legislation that have banned organizations as terrorists and specifically denotes sponsoring, financing and logistically assisting terrorist organization as an equal crime we would like to know what the UK authorities is doing by blindly allowing LTTE and its fronts, banned since 2001 in the UK to openly operate, openly raise funds and extort Tamils living in the UK while also fleecing British citizens by various illegal operations like credit card scams etc. Worst has been the blatant violation by UK MPs seen atop LTTE stages and now openly holding positions in LTTE front organizations and canvassing using their office on behalf of the LTTE against a sovereign Government and against a nation of 20million people.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ What we would like to have answered is ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” is Her Majesty aware that UK MPs whether in Government or Opposition are supporting LTTE front organizations in a bid to destabilize and separate Sri Lanka, a member of the Commonwealth and a sovereign nation with a democratically elected Government?

Merely talking about this isnt enough, we need to build up our own formidable phalanx of pro-Sri Lanka lobbyists worldwide that will BURY the myths and agendas of this line-up of assorted racists and opportunists. For that we need FINANCIAL power. For financial power, we need unity, hard work, dedication and common sense.

    1. Take immediate steps to create for free flow of information that would bring to light the ground realities prevailing in the Island of Sri Lanka.

    2. To decimate any by all means real or imaginery racist “Tamil Nation” and Tamil Nationalism by the Sri Lankan State.

    3. To Sinhalise ALL areas of SL.

    4. To militarise ANY PART of the island as required by a democratically elected government.

According to GTF spokesperson Suren Surendiran there had been a significant shift in the British coalition government policy towards Sri Lanka with Liberal Democrats calling for an international war crime investigation.

Rt. Hon Mr Ed Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change is the Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton. He is one of the two cabinet ministers who were at the No fire Zone screening in committee Room 14 of the British Parliament on Feb 27.

Mr Davey – Adele Balasingham is one of your Constituents.
Why not start the investigations in your own back yard ?

Many thanks to Shenali for coming out with a detailed account of British complicity in Terrorism in Sri Lanka. Their agenda is clear – dismemberment of Sri Lanka as a stepping stone to balkanisation of India. What is of paramount importance is how Sri Lanka going to make a proactive effort to meet the threats posed by the Christian West in their death throes.

We need to put our house in order and put in place effective counter measures not only for now but that can last even into the foreseeable future. At the present moment while there is no possibility of the Christian UNP coming to power other than through a coup d’etat there is still danger looming ahead for the Western Powers in collusion of the Christian Church are for ever clamouring for a change that will bring back the Eelamist Agenda for the dismemberment of Sri Lanka.

UPFA must through a well formulated and well placed country policy leave no possibility for a future traitorous regime to change the achievements and victory over Tamil Tiger Terrorism. It is now that we have the possibility to add some pro Unitary Sri Lanka features into our constitution that will be difficult to negate in the future.

Eternal vigilance, anticipation of what our enemies can do and what proactive measures we can put in place and maintain will be the price of our liberty as a nation.

Thanks Shenali. As usual good article. But are we getting anywhere in handling this national defense crises. Do the highest level of decision makes in Sri Lanka understand what we are up against? I wish international media picks up this article and other who write the truth. But they would not as usual. Our first line of defense, the diplomats in the western countries or any country for that matter, almost all of them are incompetent and incapable and some working on their pet projects like tourism for their personal gain.. But, to be fair, they cannot handle this alone either. This is Sri Lanka national defense in the international arena, is a professional job involves millions of dollars and on going, full time work. Volunteers can not do this job. They certainly can help and they will in every way they can.

Defense ministry should take up this project as a part of their national defense strategy and a top priority. Money should be make
by any means. Imagine if we did not purchase weapons for the war saying the country got more important things to do, than paying for the weapons.

A well researched article by Shenali.

Curiously the WTC’s concentration is on Sri Lanka only. They activities and agenda violates the Constitution particularly the Sixth Amendment to the Constitution. Tamil National Alliance and Tamil National People’s Front are Lankan political parties and they must be punished for this violation of the Constitution.

In 1974 the WTC was held in Vadokoddai, Jaffna with the concurrence of the then Sirima Bandaranaike administration. It was a very unwise decision aimed at winning the hearts and minds of Tamils. Just two years later the Vadukoddai Resolution was passed. It is not rocket science to link the two. Following last year’s conference, there will be many new challenges for Sri Lanka.

The convergence of almost all anti-Sri Lanka elements is shameful.

The answer to Shenali’s final question is obviously in the affirmative. Sri Lanka cannot rely on other nations to protect its territory. It must be done locally first. Devolution, demilitarisation, partisan development and Tamil official language are certain enablers of seperation.

    Shenali,
Her Majesty and her government had a positive outlook towards SL during JRJ’s time. Why did it change?. I think that was because the succesive SLFP governments has anti imperialist out look. SL tamils in their quest for seperation took advantage and set the west agaist GOSL. Tamils are the obedient servants (or coolies) of the imperial power that helped to build the empire. Where ever they went they took tamils along. Naturally they will take their side in case of a problem. Unfortunately for us these people from tamil nadu happened to be our number one enemy for at least two millenia. Our ancient kings knew how to overcome the problem at home by occupying the borders (the northern coastal area). Unfortunately our leaders even today have neglected that duty and the Kallathonys keep coming to infiltrate all areas and destabilise our country. Some foolish politicians are goint to compound the problem by inviting them to the north.
    Ratnapala,
The west and the US will continue to dominate the world for the foreseable future. The east asians cannot match the technological advantage they have; they only copy what US does.
BTW, here is a quote from many who contribute to this forum (not mine):
“It makes NO SENSE for us to fight EACH OTHER ! Do We have any sense to fight each other ?”

  9. Voice123 Says:

Aloy, good analysis. The British and others are simply returning the favour Tamils did to help build their empire. We must be pragmatic and live in the real world, not a make- believe world where people and nations all the time do the right thing or can be cajoled to do the right thing. We got to think how can we interact in a mutually beneficial way with the West. Otherwise they wont help us, beyond lip service.

Moreover East Asia’s ascendency is tied to the West. I am saddened to see how our politicians have yet again misled the average Sri Lankan. I move extensively with East Asians and even count a few of them as my friends – on a personal level. However on a national level, for the most part, they do not identify with us. Not even the Buddhists among them. They often view the Sinhalese as Hinduised people or “Indians”. An “ongoing colonial struggle syndrome” is unheard of among them yet common among the Sinhalese. Big point of difference. For the most part, EAs admire the West for their material and technological achievements and seek to emulate them (called “modernisation”, “pro-democratisation” “learning English from native speaking Anglo Saxons only”, etc, etc. EAs are grateful for whatever recognition westerners give them – so much so it often makes a Sri Lankan like me cringe! EAs are however helping us strengthen our economy through trade and investment and aid. Dont expect any solidarity.

Contrary to what Ratnapala is hoping, the Wests global dominance will continue at least another 50 years. By the way the West today has few attributes that could ve described as “Christian” any more. Its the 21st century not the 16th!

why is this world so dumb and impotent to ignore this issue? as chomsky observes every president in usa after the second world war was a war criminal. we must pursue this motion on world stage rather than only attempt in vain to defend ourselves. i think asoka w has enough material to support war crimes by anglo saxon ungulates. to hell with majesty!!!! the bums who destroyed our country and the whole world to be respected, addressed and regarded with unwarranted respect! we need to ‘uncondition’ ourselves with all this bs. i must say i am a bit surprised and disappointed.

“Sri Lankan police allegedly blocked hundreds of Tamils from attending a rally in the capital Wednesday to protest extrajudicial killings and the disappearances of their loved ones, an activist told Foreign Media.

Buses packed with family members were prevented from leaving the northern town of Vavuniya to make a 260-kilometre (162-mile) journey to Colombo for the Wednesday morning rally, activist and politician Mano Ganeshan said.

“The protest was called off because nearly 1,000 people were not allowed to proceed from Vavuniya,” Ganeshan told AFP.

Military spokesman brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya denied intimidation, but said police had “advised” bus operators against leaving in the interest of maintaining peace and calm in the area.

The police stopped an organised movement of several buses in view of several complaints of stoning of buses in the area,” Wanigasooriya said. “If these buses also proceeded, they could have been attacked and there could have been clashes.””

People should organize to STOP ANY anti-SL in ANYWAY they can using whatever is available. Army and politicians can’t do everything. After all the end JUSTIFIES the means.

In this case it was the THREAT of ATTACK that stopped the anti-SL rally. If the rally had gone ahead in Colombo there would be violence. So the way it ended is VERY GOOD.

  15. Ratanapala Says:

    Aloy,

There is certainly no reason for us to fight each other. We easterners lived by consensus for millennia and not by notions of democracy which is foreign even to our senses. This is why it has not been successful in any of the Eastern Countries. Where it is practiced it survives notionally by its absence (and name only) and not the other way around.

Sri Lanka needs to form a consensus as to the form of Sri Lanka we would like to have now and in the future. We have to ask the important questions how we want to live in now and in the near future.

The imperialists and the Christian Church have it in their agenda to dismember Sri Lanka and balkanise India. This will not change by pleading to them. In Sri Lanka we have to bring about the right conditions and forces necessary to withstand that onslaught. Just as we did with the Tamil Tiger Terrorists. The powers that be, must take the nation into their confidence and open this dialogue.

In Sri Lanka we have opposition politicians who cannot differentiate between what is of interest for the well being of the nation and what is good for their politics. They openly go around the world and canvass for harming the hard won peace. We need to have a mechanism to identify traitors as is done in other countries. We can follow the example of the so called “enlightened democracies” around the world. For example soon after world war II – so called Lord Haw Haw was declared a traitor and executed. Just now US soldier – Bradley Manning is being prosecuted for divulging US war crimes and crimes against civilians.

There is no point in finding fault or pleading with the outside forces. They are there and will not go away till they ultimately meet their end as happened in history to all empires based on greed, hatred and delusion. Certainly there is no point in addressing an octogenarian who is well past her prime as well as does not have power to deal with matters pertaining to the state.

As for siding with the Imperialists just because they seems to be all powerful will not bring any joy to Sri Lankan politicians, any more than it did to Yankee Dickey.

  16. Voice123 Says:

Ratnarpal, true decolonisation of India involves “Balkanization” (as you put it). Its got nothing to do with Christianity or any other religion. The British put modern India together. They should have dismantled their monster before they left. Regional India is not threatening Sri Lanka. New Delhi government IS, using the might of Federated India to pander to Tamil Nadu votes in conjunction with the old powers of the British Empire. No surprises here! Same old games, new names. For the sake of regional security and Asian solidarity, India MUST be broken up.

  17. Ratanapala Says:

Voice 123, You are right that India is a political construct of the British for their convenience of exploiting the region. However the present day realities are different. It is sad you cannot contemplate the status of a broken down India and even sadder to contemplate of a Tamil Nadu dogs let loose! Remember what happened at the partition of India into Pakistan and the present day India. That will look like a picnic if India is allowed to disintegrate. You don’t cut your nose to spite your face! We need India , but India need to know who their friends are.

The misguided policy of India to keep her intact is to find quarrels with her neighbours. At the moment this is what brings the Indian-ness in Indians. This is how they try to create a centrifugal force against the centripetal forces of Western Christian nations that are trying to balkanise it. The longterm policy of Western Christian nations is to breakdown the bigger political entities. They successfully broke down the former Soviet Union. India, Burma, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia are in their radar for break up. Sri Lanka is only the stepping stone to break up India!

India’s future and well being lies in having friendly neighbours not vice versa! What they need is to fall back into Asokan ideals and not Machiavellian Christian politics based on greed, hatred and delusions of grandeur. .

  18. aloy Says:

    Ratnapala,
I am happy that you seem to have understood one other problem that works againt us in you post at 3.42am.
It is democracy. Canada, UK and India are all entangled in it; they depend on the votes of tamils. Australia is out of it because I think Sinhalese are more in number there and there is a mad rush to increase the numbers of tamils by sending them by boats. Even the main Sinhala political parties in SL seem to be more concerned with votes, otherwise what is Ranil doing?.
There is no point in writing about the obvious thing- the lies about discrimination and crimes against humanity. They all know that there is nothing like that; for some it is a business to make money, for others there is the outside chance of breaking up SL.

  19. Voice123 Says:

Ratnapala, Tamil Nadu is already on a very long and well-financed leash by New Delhi. The leash is useless because New Delhi trains its southern dog to attack us to keep their ramshackle vestige of the British Raj held together. Besides, without Federal money and support, Tamil Nadu would be less dangerous to us. It would be one of many impoverished local regimes. Also by giving independence to Kerala, Andhra and Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and them will start “shit fights” amongst each other allowing us to breathe a bit more easily. These Dravidian entities are ancient rivals. Historically, Sinhala kings made pacts and alliances with Chera (Kerala), Pandya (Karnataka) and Pallava (Telugu) Dravidian kingdoms to restrain the Chola (Tamils). What is a new development is the Westerners penchant for supporting the Tamils. They are not doing this for religious reasons (apart from the fact that Tamil Christians are always telling religious Westerners (who are themselves a minority in the West nowadays) sob stories and they are believing it. The main spin off is because they doing deals with each other. We must get in on the action and undermine their deals by doing alternative and better deals (that benefit us). Aloy is correct. Australia’s stance is more neutral because at present Sinhalese outnumber Tamils. As I said earlier, part of our strategy should be to de-ghettoise key Western electorates like the GTA and London. Aloy is one of the few non-Tamils that understands the power of emigration and finance put together. We should be doing everything possible to prevent the boats leaving Sri Lanka, UNLESS they are going permanently to Tamil Nadu and or impoverished neighbouring South Asian countries. The moment a Tamil Eelamist assylum seeker arrives in the West, their power to harm Sri Lanka multiplies roughly by a factor of 20. Firstly there is their voting and lobbying power of powerful Western governments. Secondly, there is the financial aspect, even if they go on the dole. The per capita income of a country like Australia is approximately $40,000 and for Sri Lanka it is around $2,000. That is a lot more power in the hands of the assylum seekers. It is imperative we close this gap for our long term security.

  20. Voice123 Says:

Ratnapal, “Tamil Nadu dogs” are already unleashed. They have a long leash (and finances – more than they could normally afford by themselves) given by New Delhi. If they are on their own, they will get bogged down in “shit fights” with Kerala, Andhra and Karnataka, their ancient rivals. Sinhala kings understood this well and made alliances with Chera (kerala), Pandiya (Kannadiga) and Pallava (Telegus) as and when the need arose. All these are regional Dravidian powers that are suspicious of the Chola (Tamils).

Aloy you are absolutely correct. The first non-Tamil I am aware of to realise the power of emigration. Sinhalese currently outnumber Tamils in Australia. Its important to stop the boats. Any assylum seeker, the moment they land in Western countries, even if they go on the dole, their financial power (and ability to harm Sri Lanka) increases by approximately a factor of 20. Eg per capita income of Australia is about $40,000, per capita income of Sri Lanka is around $2,000. Go figure! Funny how most Tamils understand this factor, most Sinhalese do not. As I said earlier, GTA, London etc need serious de-ghettoising. Even the average citizens of those countries will be happier with this.
