Cancel CHOGM – Disband the Commonwealth – Honor Reparations for 50 plus nations

The decision to hold the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting or CHOGM in Sri Lanka was endorsed by a proposal made in 2009 by the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the CHOGM summit held in Trinidad and Tobago. But in an ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-All together chorusƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ the bandwagon of almost the same people supporting the LTTE are now demanding CHOGM boycott of Colombo. All we can say is if it makes everyone sleep a little better cancel the CHOGM and disband it all together. The Commonwealth only means revisiting all the crimes and atrocities committed by the British for which all the colonies ruled by Britain should ideally now seek compensation as their countries were plundered and MILLIONS of indigenous people were brutally massacred by British soldiers turning fertile and once rich nations into Third World nations and it should be payback time. Why would any Third World nation need to be going behind the Commonwealth is a question Sri Lanka and other member nations need to ask themselves.
The list of those calling for the boycott is the boring list of same people asking the LTTE to be let off the hook. They had not cared a damn for any of the heinous crimes committed by the LTTE through 3 decades. Thus, we find politicians like Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper protesting against Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s human rights record, Canadian MP Bob Rae, newest entrant is Australian former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser and who can forget former British foreign secretary now packed off to the US! Joining this list are the unofficial LTTE spokespersons Frances H and filmmaker C Macrae whose newest job appears to be making films on behalf of the LTTE and speaking on behalf of them too and one seriously wonders whether he is entering politics or will end up a MP in the utopian TGTE sometime soon. Joining the list is now Human Rights Watch ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” thankfully there are enough of human rights abuses around the world that secures these organizations their jobs!
The reason why Sri Lanka is unsuited to hold the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is its record of HUMAN RIGHTS. This is getting to become a real joke now.
Britain can boast nothing of human rights for centuries. Is this the example that these countries are giving to the world?

If this is the way forward it is time the rest of the Commonwealth Nations begin to demand compensation from Britain for all its crimes against humanity for it has been long over due.

Absolutely. SL should join with other commonwealth abused victims and file a case against Britain, Portugal and the Netherlands for reparations.
SL should also seek reparations from Japan for bombing Colombo, Trinco, etc.
SL should also get reparations from Canada, Australia, etc. for terrorist fund raising.

The British and Indian Sepoys were responsibel for the massacres in Ceylon, India and Africa. Kenyan massacres were not reported by Kenyan Standard owned by an Indian colonial parasite. Indian Sepoys were involved in massacre of Zulus. Mahathma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamacahnd) worked as pole bearer for the British Indian battallions that attcaked Zulus..

Agree. Even those in favor of holding CHOGM in Sri Lanka, eg Australia’s Bob Carr are treating Sri Lanka as not fulfilling its “human rights obligations”. The Commonwealth has turned into a harmful neo-colonialist group led by Anglos and servile Anglophile Indians. We would have been better off hosting a meeting for the Shanghai Cooperation Group for economic and defence related matters. Shenali and Lorenzo are correct. We must band with other victims of British colonialism (who may also be interested in ditching the Commonwealth) and seek compensation from Britain first. Leave Portugal, Japan and Netherlands out at this stage. They are rivals of Britain and the Commonwealth also. The Sinhalese should have fought with the Dutch against the British. Dutch were based in Indonesia, not India. We went from the Dutch frying pan into the British fire. The Commonwealth is getting ready to target Fiji next. I wonder why? (hat tip – Christie).

Personally I do not have much time for the Commonwealth which was as you know a creation of the Empire Builders to perpetuate their influence via the back doors on the colonies following independence. So I would not be crying if the meeting is NOT held in SL!!. There are far more critical issues the GoSL have pathetically failed to deal with and I am sure you know what they are without my spelling them out!!

We may as well make MAXIMUM use of this CHOGM curse and have major protests against Canada, UK, Bishop Tutu, Malcolm Fraser, Endia etc. Sinhala and loyal minority people should start organizing massive pro- Sri Lanka and anti-terrorist protests, calling for war crimes probe against LTTE rump, pro Tamil Canadians etc. consider paying western media to carry pro Lanka stories. When it started in 1887, it was known as the Imperial Conference. Name was changed in 1950s to accommodate winds of change sweeping the world. What ever the name, job is same. Till 1945, colonies were controlled by hard power of military superiority. We have to look at facts as they happened and not as what have been brianwased to beleive. We are not prepared to blame the real enemy from time immemorial, that is India. Take Tamils and other Indians who run the island.
British, Dutch and Portugese are history. British these days do what Indians tell them. Take Hon PM of Canada Mr harper, he needs the Indian vote that counts to about two million now. there are a lot of Indians including Tamils in the West about twenty million and they have a lot of power against people like us, Sinhalese, malays, Fijians, ugandans, Zulus, Creoles etc. You can see even in this forum my views tends to be moderated more than others. This is a case where, “Birds of a feather flock together”.
With a history like what Shenali Waduge has highlighted, it must be comforting for many British Politicians, INGOs and Journalists to mix with terrorists like the LTTE, who have similar disregard for humanity and similar methods to silence their opponents. The end result is, nations like Canada and Britain are now dancing to the tune of Tiger drums, and converting their lands to havens for wealthy terrorists on the run.
