CHOGM – Canada Boycott to Increase Tamil Votes

The statement by a former Canadian High Commissioner, Mr. Martin CollacottƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ confirms the opinion of many Canadians that they know why the current Canadian Government is making anti-Sri Lanka statements and threatening to boycott the CHOGM in November – it is based not on principle but on Canadian domestic politics, an attempt to get the so-called Tamil vote away from the other political parties.
Mr. John Baird claims that he will not attend the summit – good. It will save Sri Lanka the embarrassment of having to deal with his loud mouthed, belligerent, undiplomatic behaviour. He believes his ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ aggressive attitude at international meetings brings credit to Canada. On the contrary, it has diminished Canada’s stature internationally. The former high Commissioner confirms the view that successive Canadian governments allowed the Canadian Tamils to fund the LTTE and thereby prolonged the war. It confirms that Canada is responsible for supporting terrorism in Sri Lanka and is therefore accountable for the death and destructionƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of Tamil Tiger terrorism in Sri Lanka. It also clearly shows Canada’s double standard when it calls for human rights and accountability when it is faulted for human rights violations in Canada and violating the rights of all Sri Lankans by supporting LTTE terrorism. As for accountability, which Canada keepsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ preachingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to Sri Lanka, when is the Canadian government going to accept responsibility and show accountability toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lanka for Tamil Tiger terrorism which it supported for decades?
As clearly stated by the former Canadian High Commissioner, Canada by it’s actions has no credibility when it criticises Sri Lanka and should not be taken seriously when it does because it’s criticism is not based on principle but on bias towards the LTTE supporters in Canada who are still hell bent on achieving their goal of Eelam with Canada as their chief spokesperson. The other members of the Commonwealth know this, that is why in spite of Mr. Baird’s ranting in London in April, they did not support him. However the tragedy for Canada is that Mr. Baird is soƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ insensitive that he does not see what damage he is doing to Canada’s reputation.
Canada was known as a peace maker, a country that believed in peace not terrorism and aggression. By adopting this biased, unprincipledƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ attitude, the current Canadian Government has succeeded in diminishing Canada’s voice on the international stage. Sri Lanka can ignore Mr. Baird’s antics because all Sri Lankans are aware that Canada supported the LTTE and still does which is re-inforcedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ by Mr. Collacott as well as his opinion that “having turned a blind eye to the Tamil Tigers for so many years, we no longer have credibility in lecturing Sri Lanka over its post-war policies”.
The current Canadian Government, is not open to criticism or re-thinking it’s policy on Sri Lanka because they believe that it will get them Tamil votes in Canada. They do not realise that the only “Tamil votes” they will get will be those of the Canadians of Sri Lankan origin who support the LTTE. All those who do not support the LTTE will not, even those who voted Conservative in the past.

Peace loving , law abiding citizens in any nation would despise terrorists who bring only misery and destruction to that nation. Vast majority of Sri Lankans were the happiest when the terrorist leaderships of both the JVP and LTTE were eliminated and human rights of all the citizens of Sri Lanka restored. There still could be scattered occasional violation of human rights not only in SriLanka, but in every country in this world. Canada in particular is accused of violating the rights of its indigenous people.
Further, Canada’s previous good name has been sullied by the actions of all political parties that governed Canada in the recent past, through their morbid fear to antagonise the Tamil separatists, who are believed to control vast amounts of ill-gotten LTTE funds and large vote banks, both of which could be utilised to make or break Canadian governments.
In effect the Canadian tax payers are funding politicians who are unashamedly doing the dirty work of Tamil separatists. Canada certainly is accountable for the death and destruction caused in Sri Lanka for three decades (not only the last few weeks of the conflict, which the Western nations are trying to restrict to) by the Canadian Tamil separatists who received funds and protection from successive Canadian Governments. How interesting it would be if SriLankan Government decides to claim compensation from the Canadian Govt (as well as similar regimes in India, Norway, UK etc) for the massive destruction and human rights violations caused by these inhuman separatists protected, funded and allowed to operate from Canadian soil.

Why not Canada boycotted Britain for Dresden holocaust for over 600,000 refugees? Britain dropped more than 700,000 phosphorus bombs on 1.2 million people in Dresden. One bomb for every 2 People!!! Approximately 500,000 children, women, the elderly, wounded soldiers were slaughtered in one night? Why Canada was silence when Anglo Saxon’s human rights violations? Where were Canadian liberals, Conservatives and other human right activists?
How come Canada participated in CHOGM Australia’s meetings in 1981 and 2002 Canada may not know but entire world knows that Australia was a war criminal who dropped Agent Orange, napalm bombs and phosphorous bombs to kill 3 million Vietnam, Laos and Cambodian civilians during Indo china invasion with America.
During 2011 Perth, Australia CHOGM meeting Canada haven’t had any issues on Iraq invasion by Australia and U.K (+ Yankees). Nearly 700,000 internal displaced, more than a million refugees, death toll is over a millions. But Canada without any remarks participated as this was again Canada’s Anglo Saxon brothers.
Same Canada participated in New Zealand’s 1995 CHOGM. Should not forget NZ spread Agent Orange, dropped Napalm and Phosphorous bombs to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia to kill civilians. Again Canada shook her tail to Anglo Saxon brothers.
Now Common wealth nation’s human right pakeer Canada’s human right record is none second to U.K, Australia and New Zealand. At the moment Canada is violates human rights in Afghanistan after invaded. Canada invaded Libya and violated human rights in an independent country and encouraged to kill the leader of Libya in day light on the street.
What is moral that Canada has to boycott CHOGM in Sri Lanka? Have we invaded any country like in Iraq or Afghanistan or Libya? Have we dropped bombs to refugees like in Dresden? Have we sprayed Agent Orange or phosphorus bombs or napalm like in Vietnam?
The reason of boycott the meeting is none other than a political bribe to tamil terrorist supporters by Canadian corrupted politicians. In return Sri Lanka too boycotts any future CHOGM in Canada.

It appears that these bigoted politicians do not understand that the ltte was responsible for the death of tens of thousands of innocent Tamils. Like the the British of the colonial times, who thrived on the “divide and rule”, they try to make the Tamils feel good by taking it from the government of SL! What they need is support to bring the country back to peace and prosperity, and not this continual antagonism and showmanship.
Even though many Tamilians managed to get to Canada as refugees because of the war, they know that Sri Lanka has made great strides in developing the north and the east, which were devastated by the ltte terrorists. Today, there is peace in the country and any Tamilian can move anywhere in the country without fear of being persecuted.
Harper government should understand that peace loving Tamilians of Sri Lankan origin love their country and would love to see that it develops into the best country in the world. So this ploy of “punishing SL”, for no valid reason is going to backfire on them as the Tamilians are an intelligent lot, and even the hardcore ltte supporters are beginning to understand reality.
