Navi Pillay says, she is ‘Open-minded’?

UN Human Rights Chief, Navi Pillay, a South African national of South Indian Tamil Origin, arrives in Sri Lanka on 25th August for a week. The invitation for her to visit Sri Lanka had been extended two years ago so that she can see for herself the efforts of the govt on reconciliation, reconstruction and rehabilitation after the war.

In an interview just before her departure to Sri Lanka, she had said, that she is ‘open-minded’ and she will not be pre-judging anything ahead of her visit. Then she had said that, ‘she wanted to find out more and discuss about the massacre of 17 aid workers, from the Charity Action Contre La Faim (ACF), 7 years ago as well as the disappearance of 5 students on the beach in Trincomalee in 2006. She had added, ‘I would like to see similar investigations into other grave violations of human rights in Sri Lanka’. Thus having said ‘open-minded’ she had highlighted 2 incidents pointing the finger at the govt. This indicates on which side of the fence she is.

We like to ask Navi Pillay, what she has to say about  the atrocities, massacres and terrorist activities carried out by the world’s number one terror group, the LTTE, for 3 decades. Being a Tamil herself and being the UN Human Rights Chief, did she say a word against the LTTE for recruiting Tamil children as combatants and using young girls as suicide bombers. Why is Navi Pillay silent about the grave human right violations of the LTTE ?

It is obvious that Navi Pillay is operating on the same wave length as the propaganda lobby of the Tamil separatist groups, the Tamil diaspora, NGO’s and the so called international community.

Remember this is a situation created by our own incompetency! Pillai should not have been permitted to investigate SL. I am NOT saying here that the UN should not investigate SL. Far from that. What I am saying here though is that the GoSL should have objected to this PREJUDICED woman Pillai and sought a UN substitute acceptable to SL as a NEUTRAL person. I am sad that our Foreign Office monkeys just cannot handle anything properly and the only hope is that the vital issues highlighted in these columns will be formally taken up by the GoSL with her as a matter of urgency – S de Silva – London
