What development? Let’s eat and merry, that was the message given to voters by Champika Ranawake on behalf of Sirisena’s campaign. By the sheer number of email circulated by Champika’s coordinator Dhanushka Ramanayake,  Champika Runawaka beat everyone else in the presidential race to introduce new policies for the hypothetical Sirisena Government.

According to Patali Champika Ranawaka Media (PCR Media), in a recent election meeting held at Avissawella  Mr. Ranawaka pledged on behalf of Sirisena that Sirisena government will abolish fuel tax and reduce petrol price by Rs 52/-  per litre and diesel by Rs17/- per litre immediately. This is a major economic decision as fuel tax revenue is considered to be the major income for the government.

According to Dr. P B Jayasundera, Petroleum Corporation was supplying furnace oil to the Electricity Board at a price of Rs. 40 per litre up to now. Its actual price is Rs. 110. The actual price of a litre of furnace oil which was supplied to the Electricity Board at a price of Rs. 40/= was Rs. 116/=. The loss made per litre was Rs. 76. Some say that the Government draws a large tax revenue by selling oil. In fact, only a tax of Rs. 25 per litre of petrol and Rs. 2.50 per litre of diesel is levied at present. In addition, taxes are not levied on any other fuel. The Petroleum Corporation was unable to pay the General Treasury even the direct tax income it earned in last January through selling petrol and diesel.

Remember that we are the only a developing country who can afford to provide absolutely free education for our children up to and including university education, we are the only developing country who provide monthly living expenses ( Mahapola) for under privileged university students. We are the only developing country who provide absolutely free medical care for every citizen in this country.

With all these commitments in hand, has Patali Champika Ranawaka or Sirisena worked out any proposals to fill the gap once fuel tax is abolished? Has he assumed that all UNP members have already agreed to his proposal or is it another pie in the sky?.

What is Sirisena’s hypothetical government? According to Patali Champika Ranawaka Media (PCR Media), same meeting held at Avissawell Patali Champika Ranawaka has confirmed that the hypothetical Sirisena government will have 170 MPs, the highest number of MPs ever going to form a government in Sri Lanka. This number includes all MPs of United People’s Freedom Alliance except Chamal Rajapakes and Namal Rajapake, but including Basil Rajapakese. That assumption itself makes this hypothesis a least probability.

Patali Champika Ranawaka  is counting chicken before they are hatched or is he trying to deceive people to get their vote

 මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතාගේ ජනාධිපතිධුරය යටතේ ජනවාරි 8 වෙනදායින් පසු පෙට්‍රල් හා ඩීසල් බදු අහෝසි කරන බව ජාතික හෙළ උරුමයේ ප්‍රධාන ලේකම් පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී පාඨලි චම්පික රණවක මහතා පවසයි. සංවේදී යැයි කියා ගන්නා වත්මන් නායකයා පෙට්‍රල් ලීටරයකින් රුපියල් 52/- ක බදු මුදලක් අය කරයි. ඩීසල් ලීටරයකින් අය කරන බද්ද රුපියල් 17/- කි. ලබන ජනවාදරි 8 වනදා පිහිටු වන මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතාගේ රජයේ ආර්ථීක ප්‍රතිපත්තිය අනුව පෙට්‍රල් හා ඩීසල් බදු ඉවත් කෙරේ. එමගින් රටේජනතාවට සහන රැසක් හිමිවන බව චම්පික රණවක මහතා අවධාරණය කරයි.

මෛත‍්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතා ජනාධිපතිධුරයට පත්වූ විගස ශ‍්‍රී ලංකාවේ ස්ථාවරම ආණ්ඩුව බිහිවන බව ජාතික හෙළ උරුමයේ ප‍්‍රධාන ලේකම් පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත‍්‍රී පාඨලි චම්පික රණවක මහතා පවසයි. මේ වන විට ජනාධිපතිවරයා වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටින ශ‍්‍රී ලංකා නිදහස් පක්‍ෂයේ පාර්ලිමේන්තු නියෝජිතයන් සියලූ දෙනා මෛත‍්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතා සමග අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම එක්වෙනු ඇතැයි හෙතෙම පෙන්වා දෙයි. එක් නොවන්නේ නාමල් සහ චමල් රාජපක්‍ෂ දෙපල පමණි. බැසිල් රාජපක්‍ෂ මහතා ද අතීතයේ දී එක්සත් ජාතික පාක්‍ෂිකයේදි ඒ නිසා මෛත‍්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතා ජනාධිපතිධුරයට පත් වූ විගස බැසිල් රාජපක්‍ෂ මහතා ඔහුට එක්වීමට ඉඩකඩ ඇතැයි පාඨලී චම්පික රණවක මහතා අවිස්සාවේල්ලේදී පැවති පොදු අපේක්‍ෂක ජය තහවුරු කිරීමේ රැළියේ දී අවධාරණය කළේය.
