From the time the new government was elected many with vested interests levelled unreasonable criticism at the Avant -Garde and Rakna Lanka operations. One hopes that  the statement issued by the Minister of Law and Order, Mr Thialk Marapana indicating that the allegations levelled at this venture were  spurred by the desire to score points on the part of the Police department and thus curry favours from the superiors,  would put a  stop to the despicable attempts to kill this efficient venture.

Some critics were purely political in that they were hunting for the politicians, officials of the company and the former Defence Secretary. Their questionable efforts too are being exposed surely but slowly.

The concept of Avant-Garde and Rakna Lanka is the  brain child of the former Defence Secretary and a few dedicated officials who embarked on a detailed research on the wide spread threat posed to the naval operations by an armed gang of pirates in the North-Eastern coast of Africa. They not only made effective use of the opportunity but it earned international prestige while providing employment to the retired officials of the armed forces who served the country loyally. The company won the confidence of the merchant shipping companies as well the protective and the security services of the Nations using the sea lanes in the Horn of Africa. The entities were practically  gold mines for Sri Lanka while the officials involved embarked on a Sri Lanka wide welfare scheme to help the poor and the needy Sri Lankans in meeting their medical bills in respect of expensive surgeries, educational needs  etc

It was indeed a Win-Win situation for all parties concerned but for the few who were attempting to destroy the venture prompted by the ulterior motives. It has to be mentioned that other than the narrow minded schemers as outlined above, one critical but very important reason for the constant barrage against the venture is to primarily run down the companies in public and to handover it to  the private sector so that a thumping slice of commission can be collected through such a transfer of the ownership.

Let us resolve to protect the Avnat-Garde and Rakna Lanka and help the companies to grow bigger and stronger to  bring home the material and other benefits to our country.

Without doing anything useful to the country what these Yayapalanayas are doing is Foreign visits, appointing their relations without qualifications to top posts and call all sort of individuals to bribery commission.
