By Noor Nizam – Peace and Political Activist, Political Communication Researcher, SLFP Stalwart and Convener – The Muslim Voice”, December 6th., 2016.

The News 1st., TV programme of the Maharaja Media Netwok broadcasted the News Line TV program on 21.11.2016 with Jouranlist Faraz Shauketaly interviewing Azard Sallay, Leader of the National Unity Allaince (NUA). The programme is on the English stream and is a popular one, especially among the English educated elite and professionals.

What troubles me as a freelance journalist and one who has gained much knowledge in Communication Science, Political Communication Research and criteria laid down to media organizations in terms of Journalistic Ethics and Code of Conduct that are stipulated by Media Authorities of the Government, International Organizations and local and regional bodies/associations/foundations governing the FREEDOM OF SPEECH, FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION and the FREEDOM OF MEDIA, is the blantant violation allowed by News 1st: News Line TV programme for Azad Sally to character assassinate the former President of Sri Lanka, President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family through out this programme by Azad Sally. News 1st., News Line is also to be blamed for this.

This broadcast can be viewed on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVePd6U5zws

Will the Media Team and the Lawyers of Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa take a look at this broadcast recording and take necessary action against Azad Sally in accordence with the laws of the country and bring him before the Rule of Law” accordingly for making the many defamatory statements and remarks Azad Sally has blantanly made against the Former President, his siblings and the family. Sri Lanka Electronic (TV) Media has to put a stop to such activities.

  1. Lorenzo Says:

We all know Azad Sally is the LOCAL AGENT of a middle eastern group involved in extremism.

The more he attacks MR, the more MR becomes POPULAR among people that MATTER.

“The programme is on the English stream and is a popular one, especially among the English educated elite and professionals.”

    ELITE? PROFESSIONALS?
