Sri Lanka to procure 2 to 3 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from India: Official

ri Lanka will purchase 2 to 3 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from its Indian manufacturing company Serum Institute of India during the next two days, a top Sri Lankan official said here on Wednesday. Lalith Weeratunga, the advisor to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that purchasing from India will follow Thursday’s arrival of India’s free vaccines to Sri Lanka.
He said the Indian Covishield vaccine is to arrive tomorrow and the consignment will be accepted by President Rajapaksa at the Colombo international airport. A total of 250,000 people, mostly health frontline workers, members of the security forces and police and the vulnerable aged, will get the vaccine on a priority basis.
The vaccination programme for which dry runs were made over the weekend will commence on Friday. Weeratunga added that 300,000 free vaccines from China are also due and the government would be requesting Russia also for the vaccine.
Sri Lanka has recorded a near 60,000 cases till January 26, with 288 deaths from the pandemic since it was found in the island nation in mid March last year. India is one of the world’s biggest drug makers and an increasing number of countries have already approached it for procuring the coronavirus vaccines. In the last few days, India has sent consignments of domestically produced coronavirus vaccines under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Mauritius and Seychelles.
It is also undertaking commercial supplies of the doses to a number of countries, including Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Brazil and Morocco.

Government must unite the communities in the island and fairly distribute this precious vaccine to all communities. Instead of wasting money on mad mega projects, spend the vaccines and medicines from countries that are willing to sell the genuine products.
Let me go off the subject a bit.I was sad to see on TV that the paddy farmers who complained about weeds growing along with their paddy and want the government to do something about it.When a guest from Indonisia saw this was appalled because it takes about 7 to 6 months for the farmer to reap the harvest and they have ample time to get to the field pull them out manually, because they have nothing else to do for 6 months. She said from the 2nd month the weeds are visble,should be able pull them out, instead of blaming the officials and governments. There is simple solution to prevent elephants intruding, since we are born with a balu culture which we are boastful will never be able put things right,sao regretful.

We are controlling the pandemic well and shouldn’t go for vaccinating the whole country. And the indians have been
giving us only trouble for a long time and we can’t trust them with their abysmal record. Two faced, crafty, bully boy
india gave us ltte and it took 30 years and 100,000+, mainly Sinhalese Buddhists, lives. Only the Chinese and the
Pakisthanis came to our help while the whole world was against us! Remember short memoried, Sinhala modayas?

Sinhalese? Who knows? Then majority tamil Sri Lanka can be a colony of india and will pave the way to stop the
Chinese getting there permanently. Our traitor deshapaluwas don’t have backbones to tell india to stay away because
they are coming to Sri Lanka to promote tamils and annihilate the Sinhalese.
We, in fact the whole world, should’ve avoided this mass vaccination programme. Instead, they should’ve used the
treatment Asian countries have been using, steaming etc. etc. to get rid of it. The reason being, what happens if Covid23
or Covid25 etc come? You are then back to square one! Start another vaccine? The way things going it is bound to
happen because the most dangerous creature on the planet can’t stop eating poor animals. These viruses are their
revenge. Religions of conveniences don’t regard killing is a sin and encourage the consumption of these poor creatures.
So this is the way, they get animal rights! We all know eating meat causes a lot of cancers. That’s the message they’ve
given all this time. Did the two legged heeded that advice? No chance in hell. We had mad cow disease, then SARS,
bird flu, now covid. Only a mad man going to bet against not having covid23, covid25 etc. etc.!
Our distant relative chimp isn’t a meat eater we all know (Darwin’s Theory of Evolution). Anyone who cares to look at
our teeth will tell what sort of diet we should be eating. Our teeth is different from meat eating animals? Yest/no?
And then we have longer gut to digest a fibrous diet while lions, tigers etc. have a short guts to suit their meat diet.
Animals don’t have doctors or hospitals and they pass their diseases to the most dangerous creature on the planet!
It is revenge revenge on the two legged creature. But they will never listen, never learn!
