Rejoice! All Citizens of Sri Lanka! Its the dawn of a new beginning! Sun will now rise from the East without the shadow of Terrorism.

No more separate States. One country under one democratically elected leader.

The neighbour of Sri Lanka, India, with a population of over one billion citizens have elected their government with one leader, is an example to democracy.

In the nearest future, it is believed that Sri Lanka will go to the polls, for fresh elections to seek a mandate to govern.

All citizens, will have the opportunity to select and elect their choice of representatives in a multi-party democracy. No devolution. One State!

Hopefully, the IDP will be settled in the best possible way by the GoSL, and the IDPs and all citizens eligible to vote will decide on their choice.

The GoSL may invite independent observers to ensure that the elections are fair and just.

At this juncture, it is prerogative of the GoSL to decide on the role of foreign NGOs in their involvement in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka.

After the mess created by the likes of the British Parliamentarians, Norwegians et al, naturally the GoSL will take utmost care in vetting the “woves in sheep clothing” trying to pretend being the benefactors.

The Sri Lanka has already expressed gratitude to the Chinese, Pakistanies, Russians, Israelis, Vietnam for supporting the GoSL in the “hour of need”. Naturally, this relationship should take root and be developed further for the mutual benefit of all parties.

Considerable Thanks to Chinese, Pakistanies, Russians, Israelis, Vietnam.

As an independent observer, GoSL might consider inviting expertise from Singapore government, but caution must be excercised when inviting the Singaporean Tamils of Sri Lankan descent, who have been a thorn in the back of Ceylon since 1948.

The Singapore model should be given a High Priority.

Due respect must be given to the Indian neighbours who had their own political considerations, yet did support the GoSL during the final stages of the eradication of the Curse of the Tamil Terrorists.

The role of the military, SLDF, in the next stage of development cannot be under estimated, and should be given a combined responsibility. The Island needs the dedicated support of a strong SLDF over the next ten to fifteen years.

The rehabilitation of the gallent soldiers who were incapacitated, the families of the soldiers who lost patriotic defenders, must be given a Top Priority.

The officers who saved the Island from the Terrorists, must be rewarded one way or the other, in a commercial environment. The GoSL should invite foreign inward investment to train and utilize this pool of talent.

The Secretary of Defence who successfully directed the SLDF together with General Sarath Fonseka will no doubt will move forward in the USA. However, the GoSL must consider offering a position of high standing to General Fonseka, perhaps as the Ambassador at United Nations or similar, a just reward for his gallantry.

One Response to “End of Tamil Tigers – Starts a New Beginning – 11th May – Heros Day!”

  1. Nalliah Thayabharan Says:

Tamil speaking Sri Lankans had shown almost an inexhaustible capacity to produce engineers, doctors, accountants, clerks and shopkeepers but the Tamil political culture failed to produce an enlightened political leadership that could rise above their Jaffna peninsularity of mind and lead the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans towards realistic and attainable political goals. Not since Sir Pon Arunachalam left the Ceylon National Congress, rupturing hopes of communal harmony, has Tamil speaking Sri Lankans produced a political leadership which has had the vision to accept co-existence in a multi-ethnic society as the most natural, viable and peaceful path for the welfare of all communities in Sri Lanka. Blind to the future, the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans have grown up during the past several decades in a self-made political culture of resistance to reform.
Tigers were a reflection of Tamil speaking Sri Lankans. Tigers emerged from among the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans, and shared the same Jaffna peninsularity of beliefs.
Tigers did the most to destroy the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans. In counting on gains through its strength as a conventional military force, and dragging out the war for 25 years Tigers missed opportunities to even entrench their own position. Tigers’ singular focus on military strength, to the detriment of political gains and support from the people on the ground, all while ensuring their emergence as the dominant Tamil armed force was the cause of their demise.
Tigers wanted more than 100,000 Muslims in Jaffna Peninsula to get out within 3 hours, leaving their belongings and treasured valuables – that was a text book example of ‘ethnic cleansing’. Tigers made Idi Amin look like an angel as Idi Amin had a heart to give the Asians in Uganda three months to leave the country and not 3 hours.
Tamil speaking Sri Lankans suffered the most in Sri Lanka because of their leaders’ blind refusal to co-exist in a multi-ethnic society sharing the land in common with the other communities. Their suicidal political ambitions, arising from an exaggerated view of their self-importance and superiority, drove them to an end on May 18, 2009 at Mullivaykal, they never thought would come.
